The royal family

Was Prince William's statement digs at Prince Harry?

I really loved Prince William's statement and tribute to the Queen. However it did highlight the difference in his relationships with close family members, and his life going forwards compared to Harry. A friend said to me they thought it seemed like a series of digs at Harry and reading again I'm wondering if anyone would agree?

(I'm paraphrasing slightly but these are the comments that highlight Harry's new life.)

^"The world lost an extraordinary leader who's commitment to the country... was absolute."

"My wife has had twenty years of her guidance."

"My three children have got to spend holidays with her and make memories that will last their whole lives."

"I thank her... for providing an example of service and dignity in public life."

"I will honour her memory.. by supporting my father The King in every way I can."^

This was the majority of his statement and it would be impossible for Harry and Meghan to share similar sentiments now. Does anyone think this was intentional or just the reality of their situation?

The new heir to the throne is not going to be making digs at anyone, he really isn't that stupid.

All those things you mention are entirely true and pretty much exactly what one would have expected him to say.

The comment about supporting his father the king in any way he can also stood out after Meghan said in her recent interview that Harry said he has lost his father, implying their relationship has gone.

He's next in line?! That's a perfectly appropriate snd right thing to say at the moment.

All I hear in his choice of words is his love for his nan, father, family and how serious he is about stepping up to do his job.

That's it.

It’s a good statement. I don’t think it has anything to do with Harry. Although he’s family I think Harry is pretty much irrelevant when it comes to the public role of the royal family now.

Harry’s gone from being ‘the spare’, always second to his brother, to being surplus to requirements. With Charles, William, George, Charlotte and Louis the line of succession is secure. If he’d stayed as a working royal he’d have had third tier waving and opening duties. His main role would have been filling a gap to allow the children more freedom and privacy until they were older.

Oh God not again. Why aren't you posting this in The RF topic instead of filling up Chat with this boring nonsense. Just get your own life and stop obsessing over someone else's.

Libelula21 · 12/09/2022 14:41

It is both. It stands alone as a straight statement; but it also contains a series of barbs aimed at his brother. Text and subtext in one.

All anyone has is the text.
You are surmising at there being a subtext.

Oh my - I really have - were you one of the people in the crowd who refused to shake Ms hand but then took photos ? 🤣

You're haven't upset me. I just think you're an idiot with how you talk. You're like a child 😂 talking about someone trying to score points.

Poor you - You keep repeating the same insullt but can't seem to refer far enough back to your first insult to me - funny that- selective memory !

Thistleinthenight · 13/09/2022 15:59

The lot of you get a grip. It's all recycled bullshit from the tabloids and nobody has any idea about their relationship.

pilates · 15/09/2022 12:59

I didn’t automatically think there were any digs. Read into it how you may.

It was a lovely statement from the heart and that is all.

pawkins · 15/09/2022 16:27

I thought so but he is also trying to show he is old and experienced enough to take over the duties of a 70 year old man.

What has struck me is how much like Charles he now looks. He used look like Diana. He has morphed into Charles.

ManagementPlan · 15/09/2022 16:30

If anything it could be "I'm sad for my brother's family that they won't have this", but I think more likely just things he's grateful/something someone else wrote for him to say.

But we are expected to trust a king and his dirty consort when they have NEVER apologised for their behaviour.

Not sure if I missed it, what behaviour? Their affair?

That poster is posting the same thing on various threads the last day or so. They’re disgusted that Camilla is Queen Consort. Fair enough, it’s their opinion, but seems odd to add it to a thread that tailed off nearly 3 months ago 🤷🏻‍♀️

Really? You cried?
Any idea why he didn't have any plans to go and visit her last week when he was here and appeared to have a "free" day? Or why he didn't accept her invitation to Balmoral this summer, as others did? His children could have made some great memories then, in the way William's children have been able to.

Exactly - especially as now we know the family was clearly aware that the Queen was dying! Didn't happen to come over to visit his grandfather either before he passed away - and I am sure that wasn't unexpected either - PP never met Lilibet at all. Nor did he attend his memorial service and he skedaddled back to California when he could have spent some time with the Queen along with his children. He caused huge upset to his elderly grandparents in the last couple of years of their lives. Some "love"!!! Wealth is all M&H love.

They finished their hateful Netflix piece the month before the Queen died. They recorded Oprah when Philip was on his deathbed.
I'm quite sure William had more on his mind than making digs at Harry. The RF has done its best to rise above H&m's crap. Anyway he said exactly what you would expect him to say.

Ooops, didn't notice that!

Why should Charles and Camilla apologise to anyone not directly involved? Half the country (or more!) is "dirty" in that case - they are from the only people to ever have an affair!

I wish that when the four of them walked along that Kate put her arm through Meghan's and was friendly towards her and that Will put his arm around Harry. Those two things would end all this speculation about bad feeling.

But that wouldn't have been real, it would have been a saccharine performance. I admire them that they didn't have the stomach for that level of pretence.

Oh wow, I loved Diana but get a grip. It is a human right to make mistakes. 30 years have passed. Men who murdered their wives( while charles and camilla were having consensual sex) are out now.

Prince philip.died before lilibet was born ,I know people blame Meghan for everything ,but I'm not sure she could be expected to give birth early so Prince Philip could meet her.

Divorce your wife then. She is the issue here.

Think this a fairly funny “wrong thread” post 🤣

user1492757084 · 03/01/2023 14:14

William is remembering the Queen how she was to him. He speaks only for his family. That is respectful. William clearly felt very lucky to have the Queen as his Grannie for such a long time into his adulthood. His words were beautiful - as were all other family members' personal tributes to their beloved mother/grandmother. The Queen was very dear to her family.

Porcinimushroom · 03/01/2023 14:17

This is utterly ludicrous. Not everything is about harry, the thought the man can’t make these comments about his own grandmother without someone thinking it’s about bloody harry is so offensive.
