Interesting statement today

Please only bring one extra person to the funeral, fly commercial and there will be a park and ride.

Good on them for stating this early on. So many countries arrive with a huge entourage and their own cars.

Scaled back and environmentally friendly .

I was really impressed with this, no nonsense, no Donald trump, no countries trying to outdo each other with the shiny cars with flags on, trying not to make the whole thing a carbon fest.

abovedecknotbelow · 12/09/2022 14:19

Who is this aimed at? Going to be some complicated security issues with a park and ride for random royals from other countries?

Foreign heads of state. No huge gas guzzling motorcade for POTUS, gonna be only one star in this show.

winniemum · 12/09/2022 14:34

I suppose that means no Obamas, which is a shame as it seems they loved the Queen.

Frazzled2207 · 12/09/2022 14:37

It’s a step in the right direction but I cannot see the POTUS and his usual entourage coming in anything than their usual ridiculous motorcade.

Not necessarily I think there is an open invite to all heads of state (presumably not Putin and some others) but others like the Obamas might be invited in their own right

Teddeh · 12/09/2022 14:42

I'm in the USA, and there had been some speculation in the news here that there could be "a delegation" from the USA. But it's now been made clear (Sunday afternoon) that there is an invitation for Joe and Jill Biden only, which they have accepted, and so they will go together with whatever security they would normally need. If the Royal Family want to include any other US politicians, including former presidents, they can invite them separately on a personal basis.

dreamingbohemian · 12/09/2022 14:50

They've clarified that this is guidance, not rules

Nobody involved in security is going to let Biden go around in a big bus with a bunch of other heads of state. The funeral is an extremely tempting target for terrorists and extremists.

according to the guardian the white house has been given different guidance. It has been made known that the Bidens will not be getting on a bus!

thereisonlyoneofme · 12/09/2022 16:15

Watching the procession just now I thought I bet the POTUS wouldnt be allowed to walk a mile through thousands of people

Whataretheodds · 12/09/2022 16:22

Why would they abide by this when Charles and his sons don't?

PizzaFunghi · 13/09/2022 09:16

I wonder when all the invitations were sent out? Leaders have been saying they would/wouldn't come for days now, and with some of them, you wonder if they were ever invited! It seems presumptuous to have put those statements out already. Even Russia put out a statement saying Putin wouldn't be coming, and I really had to wondered if he had ever been invited. I expect there might have been an invitation to some royalty types from over there, maybe even an ambassador or representative, but not even sure about that. Are heads of foreign states that we are in some kind of dispute/embargo with usually invited?

LaBrujaPiruja · 13/09/2022 16:43

I’ve read in the Spanish press King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia were ‘verbally’ invited by the UK Ambassador when they visited the Embassy to sign the book of condolences on Friday night and this was followed by a formal written invitation sent via the Foreign Office during the weekend.
King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía have also been invited and confirmed attendance although I’m not sure if as former Head of State and wife or family (Juan Carlos I and Elizabeth II were third cousins; Juan Carlos I and the Duke of Edinburgh also third cousins; the Duke of Edinburgh was Sofía’s father's first cousin while Elizabeth II was Sofia’s mother’s third cousin).

PizzaFunghi · 13/09/2022 17:53

I read today that leaders from Russia, Belarus, and Myanmar were not invited. (don't know about north korea?). Iran was only allowed to be represented by ambassadors. Not sure what other states that we are in significant conflict with to the extent they'd not be invited. Though heads of state of every single other country in the world would be quite a lot, even if they don't expect lots of them to come. I don't know if that was literally meant, that they were all invited. And who would be invited in the case of them having both prime ministers and presidents, or whatever. I guess the separate royal heads of state might be invited independently.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 13/09/2022 18:04

On another note, if Klaus Schwab wants to take over the world as is claimed, Monday would seem to be a good day with pretty much every world leader bar Putin and Kim Il Jong in Westminster Abbey.

Head of state, there’s only one. President or prime minister or whatever is the specific name in a country if it is a republic; king or queen regnant if it is a monarchy (empire, whatever).

PizzaFunghi · 13/09/2022 18:08

I thought some had both, like Ireland, France. But I guess there is one only that is the offical head of state

LaBrujaPiruja · 13/09/2022 18:15

Head of State is one thing, Head of Government another one. In a few countries (USA, Turkey, Saudis Arabia, etc) both offices concur but they are usually separate roles.

France: Macron is HoS (Président) while Elisabeth Borne is HoG (Prèmiere Ministre).

Italy: Sergio Mattarella is HoS (Presidente) while Mario Draghi is HoG (Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri).

Spain: Felipe VI is HoS (King) while Pedro Sánchez is HoG (Presidente del Gobierno).

UK: Charles III is HoS (King) while Liz Truss is HoG (Prime Minister).

Drivebye · 13/09/2022 18:17

This will be to do with security, not the only environment. This is a headache for the security services

PizzaFunghi · 13/09/2022 19:10

Thanks for the info about the heads of states etc, really interesting.

I'm familiar with Canada, where there is a prime minister (who I'd assume is head of government), and also a governor general, the Queen's (now King's I guess) representative. But I think the prime minister would be the head of state still. Or at least he'd be the one who's invited, rather than the GG.

Canada’s Head Of State is the King.

same in Australia, New Zealand and some smaller island nations

FlagsFiend · 14/09/2022 19:09

I think the 14 other countries where Queen Elizabeth was Head of State get extra invites, so head of government, governor general, and 10 extra spaces to represent their society.

I was really impressed with this, no nonsense, no Donald trump, ...

Rude statement. President Trump and his wife Melania are good people who got on well with the Queen, media lies & hateful propaganda notwithstanding.

80 million of us Americans are hoping Biden doesn't embarrass our country by having one of his mental meltdowns or bathroom accidents in public again. Just ask Camilla or anyone at the Vatican!

World according to Newsmax and Truth Social ??🤣

We all saw January 6th and the visit to the Palace with utterly perplexing rudeness.

I'm sorry but Trump is a nope from me

Where do you think all these hundreds of leaders are going to stay? They've been reporting that all the hotels have been filled for days. Some (most?) will have embassies I guess but all of them, and enough for the entourages? I guess embassies cater for their leaders all the time so I suppose so. I wonder if the palace gets involved in any of the travel or accommodation arrangements. I guess the palace would have rooms enough if they wanted to put some of them up
