Actually hopping they bring out the fancy stuff for the coronation

I've read that they might make the coronation a more modest affair then the queen's was, and I do see the reasoning. One one hand it would be bad optics to have the new king riding round in a golden carriage while people can't afford the heating.

But that got me thinking, they already have all the fine clothes, furs, jewelry etc anyway, it's not like they can take them down to cash converters if they don't use them. We're probably already paying for all that stuff to be stored and maintained as historical/ cultural artifacts, so they might as well use it.

Damn, forgot to say that in one of today's regional proclamations it was 'of blessed and glorious memory'. We're enjoying the words as well as the getups, boys.

I wish the public onlookers dressed up a bit, my Grandad (Queens generation) was never rich but always had on suit trousers, shirt and tie right up to the end and I'm sure during the Queens coronation the onlookers would have been dressed like that as habit but watching the Proclamations etc today and people in trackies whilst others were dressed in the most fantastic regalia looked quite strange.

I think after what will be a hard winter for lots of people a bit of pomp is just what the country will need in the Spring.

Thanks @Iamthewombat , it was a light-hearted post at nearly midnight on a Friday. But I am glad you took it a an opportunity to educate me <doffs cap> I hope you felt suitably superior after that.

No, but I do now.

There's a large and growing number of people that can't afford to properly feed themselves and the supermarkets are probably aware of this (not that they care, they just know people can't be squeezed fuether)

It was a pretty unanimous thread back in September - bring on the bling! Seems to be a minority view now.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 03/05/2023 23:06

There has been a long cold winter for many people since September. The mood has changed, people seem to be less in favour of such a blatant show of wealth and privilege.
