The royal family

Actually hopping they bring out the fancy stuff for the coronation

I've read that they might make the coronation a more modest affair then the queen's was, and I do see the reasoning. One one hand it would be bad optics to have the new king riding round in a golden carriage while people can't afford the heating.

But that got me thinking, they already have all the fine clothes, furs, jewelry etc anyway, it's not like they can take them down to cash converters if they don't use them. We're probably already paying for all that stuff to be stored and maintained as historical/ cultural artifacts, so they might as well use it.

That's not a criticism, I love Camilla, but she will go with her gut, not sit there ringing her hands about optics

I think she should ‘ring her hands’. That will save the cost of the bell ringers at Westminster Abbey, if she can do it loudly enough.

UrsulaPandress · 11/09/2022 08:08

I agree. I’ll feel very short changed if we don’t get the full regalia.

ApolloandDaphne · 11/09/2022 08:10

I loved all the pomp and pageantry. I want to see it all. It will be a historic moment.

Bichette · 11/09/2022 08:10

I hope the coronation is totally blingtastic. The Queen's was the first one to be televised but it was in black and white, I want to see this one in glorious technicolour.
Hopefully, it will be a sunny day too.

The Roman ones were horrific

Yes, but they did have lions and crocodiles.
It would be interesting if something like that was re-introduced for the coronation (maybe just for crowd control).

mum2jakie · 11/09/2022 08:17

Bring it on! We want the works not some austerity version!

onemouseplace · 11/09/2022 08:18

I hope it’s totally full on and over the top. I took the DC to see the Crown Jewels when we went to the Tower and all the stuff about the traditions behind the coronation ceremony was so interesting that I’m really looking forward to seeing one!

This is something that hasn’t been done for 70 years! Go big or go home I say.

SnottyLottie · 11/09/2022 08:20

I want full on bling. Gold carriage, jewels, gorgeous outfits and tiaras/coronets. I love seeing the pomp and tradition and this is such a special event in British history.

watcherintherye · 11/09/2022 08:23

Coronations are meant to be ott and memorable. I want the full works!

Bestcatmum · 11/09/2022 08:23

I want to see the highest pomp and ceremony there is. Its what we are famous for around the world. It will be watched round the world too. It will certainly cheer me up in these dark times.

AntlerRose · 11/09/2022 08:25

Me too. Im a republican but if i have to put up with a coronation i want a proper one with all the glitz.

EspeciallyDivided · 11/09/2022 08:26

I want the whole lot, crowns, carriages, all the jewels.

Seaweasel · 11/09/2022 08:32

Absolutely, the whole shebang. The more bonkers the better.

Beamur · 11/09/2022 08:34

Same here!
I want a blingtastic coronation with all the baubles out on display.

JenniferBarkley · 11/09/2022 08:38

Absolutely. I don't support the idea of a hereditary monarchy, but if we're going to have one I want EVERYTHING. I want crowns and gowns and diamonds and carriages and baffling rituals. I want it all.

I want it to make William and Kate's wedding look like a ten minute job down the local registry office.

KilmordenCastle · 11/09/2022 08:40

I absolutely want them to go all out for the coronation. They have the golden carriage and all the jewels so why not use them?

I could understand scaling it back if they announced that they were going to sell all the bling and donate the proceeds to charity and that is the reason that it is being scaled back. But they are never going to that so just get it all out for us to gawp at.

I think she should ‘ring her hands’. That will save the cost of the bell ringers at Westminster Abbey, if she can do it loudly enough.

I know this isn't a serious post, but I'm not sure there will be any cost for bellringing. Bellringers don't do the job professionally, and I suspect the local bellringing bands would be fighting for the privilege of being able to say they rang for the coronation.

tune · 11/09/2022 08:52

Surely having all the pomp can only be good for tourism? Boost to hotels/restaurants/shops especially around the capital.

Bobbins36 · 11/09/2022 08:53

I hope they pull out all the bling. They already have the gold coach etc not like another one needs purchased?

Security costs are going to be huge regardless of how showy it is?

elizaregina · 11/09/2022 08:55

Totally agree!

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 11/09/2022 09:09

I agree. Generally I'm not actually in favour of the monarchy, but if we are going to have one then there's no benefit in keeping the gold carriage in storage rather than bringing it out. It's not like we're spending money to make a gold carriage from scratch.

redandyellowbits · 11/09/2022 09:11

I want it to make William and Kate's wedding look like a ten minute job down the local registry office

Haha! Absolutely this!

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 11/09/2022 09:11

I could understand scaling it back if they announced that they were going to sell all the bling and donate the proceeds to charity and that is the reason that it is being scaled back.

I imagine things like the gold carriage etc aren't really the royal family's to sell, and they're important pieces of history so even if we abolished the royal family I wouldn't want them sold.

Augend23 · 11/09/2022 09:17

I want all available pomp and ceremony for this. I don't mind at all having a royal family etc, but if we're going to bother having one we might as well have the tradition and the repetition of the historic requirements that go alongside it

Cokakolakazza · 11/09/2022 09:24

I just love the images OP has brought to mind of King Charles going down to cash converters with all the crown jewels. Camila trying to sell the gowns and robes on Vinted. William getting a quote for the golden carriage on we buy any car.
