The royal family

To think the Cambridges should send their 3 to state school

Why not? They don’t need to get top grades to pursue careers and if they do turn out to be academic they can still be doctors and lawyers like other state kids.
They don’t need to mix well socially or learn the manners and etiquette. In fact they could probably do with mixing a bit more widely.
The beefed up security could help the new school in general as could their contribution to the PTA. Lots of state schools do Forest School and they could pay for extra sport coaching.
Sounds like a plan to me.

I agree 👏

Isaidnoalready · 22/08/2022 20:04

They are rich privileged children and have every right to live a rich privileged lifestyle there are people on mumsnet whose children go to private school its not just for the royal family

Sally99 · 22/08/2022 20:04

Don't state school children learn manners?

Notplayingball · 22/08/2022 20:05

Don't state school children learn manners?

No don't be ridiculous.

rocketfromthecrypt · 22/08/2022 20:05

In principle I agree, but their kids would be taking up three spaces which could go to kids whose parents can't afford to send them private school. No chance K and W would risk their children mingling with the great unwashed though.

Notplayingball · 22/08/2022 20:06

The one thing that stood out for me reading about their move today was they want as normal an upbringing as possible for their children..... Then I read next that they will be going to a fee paying school 🤦🏻

Antarcticant · 22/08/2022 20:07

Much as I deplore the extravagance of the Royals, if you are talking about A.N.Other state school down the road, this would never work. 'Ordinary' cash-stretched people would be selling stories to The Sun every week and the children would be constantly in the spotlight.

In the unlikely event the Royals went to state school it would have to be one of those that is in practice extremely exclusive - like the one Labour top brass MPs use for their children - London Oratory I think it's called.

What we need to do is abolish the RF altogether.

A580Hojas · 22/08/2022 20:08

It's hardly likely is it? They are not a high achieving family in academic terms - they need all the help they can get.

Splatling · 22/08/2022 20:08

They're not going to have a normal life, it's ridiculous. They should stop pretending they're 'normal people'.

PuttingDownRoots · 22/08/2022 20:10

I completely disagree. It would be a compleye circus and disadvantage the other children there. Private schools have a better chance of protecting all the pupils from that

viques · 22/08/2022 20:10

Lady Margaret School if you have daughters, even if you live on the other side of the river and haven’t been inside a church since your christening.

Dotcheck · 22/08/2022 20:11

Are you saying their security detail will have to help out with the PTA activities? As in, bringing items for the tabletop sale at the summer Fair?

Sally99 · 22/08/2022 20:11

@Notplayingball Read OP's post. Apparently they can go to a state school as the don't need to learn etiquette or manners

viques · 22/08/2022 20:12

Be handy to have a Norland nanny though, I bet they are dab hands at de-nitting itchy heads.

Hawkins001 · 22/08/2022 20:13

The royals and their children ect, are ambassadors for the country, why should they not have the best education if the options are available.

Yes in an ideal society everyone should have an equal opportunities education.
But if that's your starting point, what do you do with child a, that is better at maths, child b, is better at psychological perspectives, how long before people then say hold on child, x, y ,z is doing better than child a, ect.

These days if the determination and drive for learning is there people will learn, and no matter how much level field the schools could begin with, say their is only state schools, for all, you would then have different outcomes still as some parents would be more invested, some would hire tutors ect, it could be debated that schooling can and will never be truly equal for all.

OhAmBackAgain · 22/08/2022 20:13

I don't think it was a great experience Paul McCartney kids.

Georgeskitchen · 22/08/2022 20:13

Would send your kids to a state school office you could afford private education?
No of course you bloody wouldnt

daretodenim · 22/08/2022 20:13

The Dutch crown Princess went to state schools and her youngest sister goes to state school. Her other sister is now at United World College in Wales - boarding school - basically because they needed to get her off Instagram and out of the spotlight that she's quite desperate to be in (at 16). The Spanish crown Princess is also there I believe. Don't know where she went first but only reason for the Dutch Princess bring at a fe paying school if to hide her!

There's no reason why this couldn't be done. A law would have to be passed prohibiting photos of them from f taken, sold or distributed or bought, received or published. I'm sure it could be done. But there's definitely no will. For K&W going to private school is a normal life. I'm going to get than other than domestic staff they have nobody in their every day lives who went to state school or who sends their own kids to one.

Lindy2 · 22/08/2022 20:14

I imagine a state school would be a security nightmare.

There's plenty of children in fee paying schools. The Cambridges will just be 3 more of them.

Dalaidramailama · 22/08/2022 20:15

I disagree. It would be a safeguarding misery for all concerned. The kids themselves and also other kids within the school.

Londonderry34 · 22/08/2022 20:16

You do know that children at state schools get top grades?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 22/08/2022 20:18

have every right to live a rich privileged lifestyle

This attitude is why the country is in the state it’s in. They haven’t even earnt the money, but still entitled to the taxpayer supporting them whilst everyone else struggles.

They should go to a state school.

goshy · 22/08/2022 20:18

yeah that did may me laugh! along with the keeping it real economy flights 😆

Abraxan · 22/08/2022 20:19

Few state schools would actually really want that kind of student going there. The amount of security needed for the normal running of the school would be huge. They'd need tons of additional funding just to get through a simple week.

It wouldn't really be fair to the other children and families there.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 22/08/2022 20:20

I think any state school would benefit from the extra funding I’d this was the case.
