To think the Cambridges should send their 3 to state school

Why not? They don’t need to get top grades to pursue careers and if they do turn out to be academic they can still be doctors and lawyers like other state kids.
They don’t need to mix well socially or learn the manners and etiquette. In fact they could probably do with mixing a bit more widely.
The beefed up security could help the new school in general as could their contribution to the PTA. Lots of state schools do Forest School and they could pay for extra sport coaching.
Sounds like a plan to me.

Would send your kids to a state school office you could afford private education?

If I got them into the best ones then yep.

gogohmm · 22/08/2022 20:20

It would be unfair on the other children. They aren't ordinary kids, there's a nexus circus around them. Staff will need to be security cleared and sign non disclosure documents etc. It's fee paying but typical for the area, anyone who can afford it could go there. What will be more interesting is whether the kids board when older

BeanieTeen · 22/08/2022 20:25

I don’t think so, just because as a pp said they can afford private school fees - so taking three state school places when you don’t need them does seem somewhat unnecessary. Many schools are oversubscribed. I don’t think it would be the good kind of gesture it’s intended to be.

emmetgirl · 22/08/2022 20:26

Like that's going to happen.

legalseagull · 22/08/2022 20:27

Don't be ridiculous. It would be a security nightmare. They would be at major risk. It would also be a huge distraction for the other kids and put them in risky situations with security / press too.
I read the fees for three kids will amount to 50k. Which that sounds enormous it's actually quite cheap by private school standards around there. Wycombe Abby and Erin would cost around that per child!

chillipenguin · 22/08/2022 20:29

No it would be far too disruptive for all the other kids the school wouldn't be used to handling high profile kids.

crowsfeet57 · 22/08/2022 20:30

Sorry I can't think of anything worse. What if there's a kidnap or assassination attempt? I wouldn't want my grandson to be collateral damage!

GyozaGuiting · 22/08/2022 20:30

The security alone would be a nightmare at most state primaries.

Much as I deplore the extravagance of the Royals, if you are talking about A.N.Other state school down the road, this would never work. 'Ordinary' cash-stretched people would be selling stories to The Sun every week and the children would be constantly in the spotlight.

In the unlikely event the Royals went to state school it would have to be one of those that is in practice extremely exclusive - like the one Labour top brass MPs use for their children - London Oratory I think it's called.

What we need to do is abolish the RF altogether.

Meh. Uncle Harry does it.
It would be a good learning curve. Once the plebs had been sued a few times they might reign it in. Also no one would want to be expelled from the cool school where the Queen comes to award assembly.

No of course you bloody wouldnt

Of course they wouldn't.

Bluebells12 · 22/08/2022 20:34

PuttingDownRoots · 22/08/2022 20:10

I completely disagree. It would be a compleye circus and disadvantage the other children there. Private schools have a better chance of protecting all the pupils from that

This. Imagine doing school pick up with paparazzi all over the place. Private schools have better security etc.

Ridiculous suggestion.

Surtsey · 22/08/2022 20:35

Security would be a nightmare, they couldn't go to a state school.

Leafy3 · 22/08/2022 20:36

That would be brilliant

MarshaBradyo · 22/08/2022 20:41

It’s an interesting idea op but when they say normal lives it’s a more a step down from extreme (or obscene depending on how you feel about RF) privilege. Not normal just hugely privileged

Paparazzi and parents leave them alone at the private school. What security do they use? Someone present all day?

Or threat of being asked to leave if you publish a photo online. It’s probably just with every day parents in private too

You wouldn’t necessarily get paparazzi outside state for the same reason they are left alone by media except at engagements

Anyone else click on the thread title and get a shock it wasn't the OP you thought it would be?

theworldhas · 22/08/2022 20:46

The best thing the Cambridges could do for social mobility/meritocracy in this country would be to abdicate and help disband the monarchy. Get an elected term based ceremonial president in like they have in Ireland.

slowquickstep · 22/08/2022 20:47

If the children went to a local state school, the cost for security would rocket. Why should they send them to state school, most people wouldn't send their children if they could afford private.

Would it? The children of the Dutch king and queen mostly go to state schools...

The oldest did choose something different for her final (two?) year(s), not sure if that was fee paying. But other than that: state schools.

lightisnotwhite · 22/08/2022 20:50

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 22/08/2022 20:33

Of course they wouldn't.

But they are uniquely different to bog standard rich kids. They have nothing to prove academically. They don’t need to achieve anything or be anything. They entire lives will be about supporting Britain in some capacity. I mean Louis could do musical theatre and Charlotte take the bar but always with one eye on how it’s making the Royals look.
They don’t even really need school.

How is security different in private school? Interestingly I live near a very expensive school and anyone can walk their dog past it’s playing fields and there’s nothing to stop anyone walking round. Lots of very famous peoples kids go there.

lightisnotwhite · 22/08/2022 20:57

Thinking about it ALL the state schools I know have barriers to limit school access for safe guarding.
All the private school have nothing until the school entrance and very open sites.

orangeisthenewpuce · 22/08/2022 20:58

It's up to them where they send their children to school.

Grumpypants78 · 22/08/2022 21:00

It's a silly idea, no parent in public service deserves to have decisions about their children's schooling taken away from them regardless of their role 🙄
