To think the Cambridges should send their 3 to state school

Why not? They don’t need to get top grades to pursue careers and if they do turn out to be academic they can still be doctors and lawyers like other state kids.
They don’t need to mix well socially or learn the manners and etiquette. In fact they could probably do with mixing a bit more widely.
The beefed up security could help the new school in general as could their contribution to the PTA. Lots of state schools do Forest School and they could pay for extra sport coaching.
Sounds like a plan to me.

Are you mad!!!! All three are a target, George especially. How would a state school have the provisions and capability to protect them and not to mention all the other kids that could get caught in the crosshairs if ever there was an incident! It Doesn’t matter to me how much of my tax money goes on their education I’m happy and understand the need for them to be in private education!

Tbf the school they have chosen, Lambrook, is one of the more 'normal' private schools that they could have chosen.

(My children go to state school, I'm just local).

Lambrook School costs £21,000 a year. If it is not giving a top-class education for that amount of money but just a normal one, then the parents are being ripped off.

YABU because private schools are generally better than state schools. It's a no-brainer for anyone who can afford it, not just the Royal Family.

There a lot of champagne socialists I know who would disagree with you.

My youngest daughter’s dad earns a lot and wants her to go to private school but I don’t want her growing up hearing the bigoted opinions of Tory voters so she’ll go to the local state school, which is plenty good enough.

antelopevalley · 22/08/2022 21:34

And the Daily Mail says "Just yesterday, Kate and her children Charlotte and Louis were spotted sitting in economy on a budget flight to Inverness Airport with their nanny and a security team as they travelled to Balmoral to holiday with the Queen."
So if the security for an economy flight is okay, why not a state school?

They are rich privileged children and have every right to live a rich privileged lifestyle there are people on mumsnet whose children go to private school its not just for the royal family

But in no shape or form have they earned that privilege - they were simply born into privilege and this countries taxes go into supporting this family.

If the children went to a local state school, the cost for security would rocket. Why should they send them to state school, most people wouldn't send their children if they could afford private.

There are so many good state schools that offer excellent education. Don’t knock it!

fallfallfall · 22/08/2022 21:36

no, no they shouldn't.
they deserve to enjoy their childhood.
it's really not about the quality of the education component but guiding them gently to what others and the world will expect of them.

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/08/2022 21:37

I don't think that would be great for the kids. A protected inner circle from a limited social strata is the only way they can have friends and a social life.

You're comparing apples with pears.

If the date they were going to Balmoral were kept confidential, owing to the plurality of methods of transport, it's unlikely the Bad Guys would be able to camp out over enough options to be reasonably sure of spotting them.

A school that the DC attend every day has fewer variations and is therefore a greater risk

There are no original members of the RF who are known for their intellect. Catherine is much brighter than her husband.

There are many, many private schools that are actually shit but people will send their kids there anyway for the prestige of saying that their kids go to private school.

I agree. And the stats bear this out.
I have also heard parents crowing about all the things their local private school offers that is no different, or actually less than some local state schools.

antelopevalley · 22/08/2022 21:45

There is zero correlation between the educational achievement of individual Royal Family members and their popularity with the public.
Princess Diana, the Queen, Princess Anne - none had many qualifications.

So...just leave them to it right? You sound like you don't really believe what you're saying.

ZandathePanda · 22/08/2022 21:55

lightisnotwhite · 22/08/2022 21:08

Yes but my point is they have no need whatsoever ever of the best education.

How do you measure a better education?

If it’s on grades my two daughters both got 2 A stars and an A at A Level (both ‘examined’ exams). If it’s on teaching quality, that was good - they never got below an A in exams and there were some very inspiring ones.

If it was on extra curricular then they did a bit at school but also had more time for out-of-school clubs in the community which were ultimately better for Uni/work.

If it’s on meeting people from all walks of life, which I think would be the most useful for a better education, then it was good as there were pupils from all trades and professions at my daughters’ school as it was a comprehensive. We don’t have grammar schools in our county.

If it’s on price, it was ‘free’ being a state school. Does that make it worse because we didn’t pay?

antelopevalley · 22/08/2022 21:59

@ZandathePanda It is on the improvements in expected attainment.
Ten pupils all expected to get Ds who all get Bs - brilliant education.
Ten pupils all expected to get As who get Cs - terrible education.
Children's attainment is assessed when they first start school.

Of course, I leave them to it. I smile and nod. Why would I care if they are wasting their money?

Quelle surprise. Name change fail, op.

The one thing that stood out for me reading about their move today was they want as normal an upbringing as possible for their children..... Then I read next that they will be going to a fee paying school 🤦🏻

That is normal for them....

tobee · 22/08/2022 22:10

Georgeskitchen · 22/08/2022 20:13

Would send your kids to a state school office you could afford private education?
No of course you bloody wouldnt

It was a long time ago now, but my parents could have sent us to private school but sent us to state school as they were very much pro comprehensive education. Sadly, that doesn't come up as a consideration now. So comprehensives will suffer. Especially if the government's kids all get paid education. Especially with their "if you can't pay for it, it's your own fault" attitude

Why's that not normal? Around 7% of children in UK are privately educated. That's probably around the same percentage as those who commute to work by train.

It’s a break from tradition that they are sent to a school. HMQ was educated at home like all the previous members of the RF. For the RF they are doing things differently.

That was a long time ago though. Look at Charles et al and everyone since.
