I thought it was lovely that William went to Deborah James’s house to give her the Damehood . Judging by the photos and her comments , it was a lovely afternoon.
I think W is going to be a very different King.

Obviously he visited her at home because of her illness but I can’t think of any other member of the RF who has gone to a private house to bestow an honour however, according to you , RF members have always done things like this so wonder if you can tell me who as I wasn’t aware ? .

I am sick of the fact that not one thread on mn can’t happen without someone needing to highjack it in order to bitch.

Chilledchablis1 · 14/05/2022 19:04

You were the one who said they had . I asked for examples !
On the one hand the RF are accused of being out of touch and someone ( in this case William) does something lovely and different and it’s still wrong !

A fantastic touch from Prince William, as soon as it was announced I wondered if one of them would take it to her but wasn’t expecting it to be arranged so quickly.

she has done so much to try to remove the stigma around bowel cancer and raise awareness and she deserves the plaudits for that. Her approach and personality will have inevitably helped save lives of others even when she knew she was on borrowed time.

Why is there always one - this woman may have not been poor but she wasn’t a celebrity. What she’s achieved is amazing and she’s doing it to hopefully save the next Deborah who may just live on a council estate! So please remove your negativity

You read my mind. There's always one who has to spoil it. Rich or poor cancer can affect anyone. Some people are just so negative about everything

This lady is dying. Leaving young children motherless. Can't believe there are posters on mumsnet who are bitching
about Prince William visiting her home.
Hang your heads in shame

Chilledchablis1 · 14/05/2022 19:31

@Georgeskitchen

Well said.

No I think the vibe was that many of us were happy that a woman dying way before her time, leaving behind her husband, children, parents, siblings had a lovely afternoon. She enjoyed William visiting, it was a positive experience at a very sad time.

It is unfortunate that people can't just be happy for her.

BigGreen · 14/05/2022 19:44

Yes I thought it was lovely too. It seemed to come from a genuine place and not a PR thing. I wondered if he was thinking about her kids too, having lost his own Mum.

Bowel babe just happens to be in the news right now. I remember Jane Tomlinson being well known in her fight against breast cancer, she was awarded a CBE. I am just very grateful not to be in that position

@Hintofreality
“Lovely for her but woykd not have happened had she been a single Mother of three from a Council Estate. Privilege goes to the Privileged.
There are many doing their bit to raise cancer awareness without the benefit of a PR team and wealth. Where’s their awards? “

Oh for goodness sake , there’s always one ! The poor woman is dying !

FFS. She’s DYING. Assuming you’re not, who is the privileged one here?

That's because you're anti royal. What baffles me is why you need to push on every thread in the topic?

do us all a favour and hide the topic!!

Why does any of that matter? Couldn't you find it in you to just think that it was something she enjoyed, you might have hated it or you might have thought it was no big deal but that isn't relevant is it. She had something nice, she enjoyed it, her family seemed to enjoy it, I can't see why anyone would need to pick that apart.
