Will she abdicate?

I’m suspicious this is on the cards this year.

Does anyone else feel that things are being put in place for this?

no

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 09/02/2022 08:06

I don’t think so. That wouldn’t make sense for how she has lived her life. I think she is just setting things up so that when she dies, it is all about the formalities and everyone knows what to do.

LosingTheWill2022 · 09/02/2022 08:08

No

TigerLilyTail · 09/02/2022 08:08

Absolutely not!

She is fine and happy. She does little bits here and there and I think they arranged for a family member to attend each event she attends just in case she is unwell.

I think there are some people who enjoy what they do and want to keep going.

EdithWeston · 09/02/2022 08:08

No, never.

She made a life-long vow.

If she wants to retire, she will, but that will mean a Charles as Prince Regent, not an abdication. She'll be HM the Queen until her last breath.

She had health issues last year, was widowed and looks more frail. Not surprised she's accelerated the handover plans. But they won't include abdicating, even if she intends to step down after all the celebrations this summer

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/02/2022 08:09

Never. Shes been handing stuff over to Charles and William for ages.

Grasping · 09/02/2022 08:10

OK!
Only time will tell I suppose

No, she will never abdicate.

cakeambush · 09/02/2022 08:11

No. The queen (assuming that's who you're talking about) believes in duty and commitment. She won't quit. She will I think be less hands-on and public but she will die the queen.

Aposterhasnoname · 09/02/2022 08:11

No, she’ll never abdicate. However, I do think she knows her days are numbered, and is getting things in place for that.

Dottychickens · 09/02/2022 08:13

No, she only has to be queen for 2 more years to be the longest-reigning monarch in history…she already the longest reigning female so I think she’ll hold out to that to go down in history with that title.

SickAndTiredAgain · 09/02/2022 08:15

No.

And to be honest, I don’t see why she’d need to. She can reduce engagements without abdicating, it’s not like it’s a role where it’s a serious problem if the person in it isn’t up to doing more hours.
If it got to the point where she was unable to do the “key” things like the state opening of parliament then maybe, but even that she’s missed twice due to pregnancy.

TigerLilyTail · 09/02/2022 08:22

The Japanese Emperor abdicated but I think he was showing signs of struggling with basic tasks and so he wanted to live his life with dignity out of the public eye. The Queen still seems very well.

I think even if she suffered from ill health such as a stroke, Charles and co. Would take over all her duties but she would still remain Queen.

Motnight · 09/02/2022 08:23

No

TulipsGarden · 09/02/2022 08:24

Absolutely no chance. She might die though.

KonTikki · 09/02/2022 08:33

No, but I wish she would.
Huge respect for all that she has done, but I felt that she should abdicate at the time of her golden jubilee.
The longer she holds the Crown, the more the country is being condemned to an "old" monarchy by the time that Charles becomes king ..... and so on down the line.
I do feel that there is an element of wanting to smash records in her thinking.

FloBot7 · 09/02/2022 08:46

I think if she had ever seriously considered it, it would have happened around 2013-2014 when other European royals were abdicating due to old age. At that point there was still the possibility of enjoying some final years with Philip. I'm not convinced she's chasing records, I think she just feels duty bound to continue until her death as most royals have.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/02/2022 08:48

Unlike the majority of us, the Queen remembers the last abdication. I have a feeling that might influence her line of thinking.

BunnyRuddington · 09/02/2022 08:52

I never thought she would but after Prince Phillip's death, the Palace's announcement about Camilla and the upcoming Jubilee, I wouldn't be surprised now if she did abdicate later in the year.

RussiasGreatestLoveMachine · 09/02/2022 08:55

@Grasping

OK! Only time will tell I suppose
The only thing time will tell is that the Queen is not going to abdicate.

People need to make their peace with this. Elizabeth II will die as Queen and reigning monarch.

No ifs, no buts.

To think otherwise shows a woeful lack of understanding of how things work, and of the woman herself.

ClariceQuiff · 09/02/2022 09:00

Her message last weekend on the anniversary of her ascension said:

'As we mark this anniversary, it gives me pleasure to renew to you the pledge I gave in 1947 that my life will always be devoted to your service.'

That doesn't sound to me like a Queen about to abdicate.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 09/02/2022 09:02

Not a chance. She’s dedicated her life to the job (been well recompensed mind…). She sees it as her Duty, not a choice.

BadgerStripes · 09/02/2022 09:05

Not in a million years

StopStartStop · 09/02/2022 09:05

I don't think so. The Queen has shown great commitment to her role, which she sees as her duty to God and the country. I think they're just making clear that there will be no 'skipping over' Charles, that Camilla is fully accepted as his rightful Queen Consort, and that William and Catherine are expected to follow in due course. Prince Charles wanted a 'slimmed down' monarchy and now he has one.

Mamamia7962 · 09/02/2022 09:05

She will never abdicate. The Queen is very religious and sees her role as being God's will. To serve her country is her duty and she will do that until she dies.

She is making plans for the future of the monarchy. Can you imagine the uproar there would have been if after she died Prince Charles declared that Camilla would be Queen? But for the Queen herself to say that this is her wish makes it easier for Prince Charles and Camilla, as people have respect for the Queen.

She is just getting her affairs in order for when she does pass away.
