www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/01/17/meghan-markle-complains-bbc-podcast-claim-apologised-misleading/

She has complained to the BBC that he said on the podcast that she “misled the court” in the Daily Mail case.

I thought she apologised for misleading the court and insisted it was inadvertent?

AR’s BBC documentary seemed quite pro-Sussex, so this is confusing.

I hadn’t heard of the podcast but will have a listen now. (Streisand effect rides again,)

Is there some difference between British and American English that might explain this? I cannot figure it out,

Rajan. Amol Rajan.

Autocorrect apparently isn’t into current affairs.

The Streisand effect indeed...!

Thoosa · 18/01/2022 01:23

Oh! Actually maybe that’s the idea? I’m too tired for this level of weirdness. Smile

The Sussexes couldn't pull off a Streisand Effect. Absolutely everything they do, and some stuff they don't do, makes headlines here.🙄

Thoosa · 18/01/2022 01:35

There must be some angle to it. It doesn’t make sense to complain about an accurate fact from a sympathetic journalist.

Maybe someone will figure it out by breakfast.

Goodness knows but I wish they would just get on with their lives like they said they wanted to.

DoctorSnortles · 18/01/2022 06:33

They must spend a lot of time, or pay other people to spend a lot of time, trawling around in the internet looking for references to themselves to get cross about. I mean, it is fairly obvious that the posting behaviour of some folk, even on MN, is pretty interesting when it comes to suddenly appearing and vociferously defending them.

What a weird thing. You’d expect them to just get on with their lives, have a good time being ‘fabulous’ and ignore the nonsense.

you could say that about the people on here that dislike them. they seem to spend a lot of time finding non stories to froth about.

I suppose it’s the norm for celebrities to have someone monitoring media, Google alerts etc. Before that it was clippings services. There’s insanely big money in reputation management. Insane waste of time and effort, IMO, (you’ll hear soon enough if someone actually defames or denigrates you without your own mini GCHQ), but not an unusual one.

What made this story jump out is it looks like friendly fire, but not so friendly, IYSWIM. This Amol chap has been defending her, include her lawyer on his documentary and so on. Why go after him? And for something that was accurate?

I wondered if there was an obvious explanation like “mislead” meaning slightly different in North America?

Maybe some other explanation dedicated royal watchers would know?

@DoctorSnortles I have noticed the defence roll out for them too. I don't care what they do or whine about, but note that if people comment on them here suddenly appear lots of posters appear in defence. Rather then debating, their strategy is to shut the OP up.

derxa · 18/01/2022 08:11

Poor old Amol. He was such a supporter too.

Yes, that’s come back to bite him on the bum pretty quickly!!

MM with this particular story puts me in mind of a teacher appraising a student:

‘Amol tries hard, however, he could do better. There is certainly room for improvement especially in regard to how he presents his material to the class. Well done Amol nearly there but not quite’.

LondonWolf · 18/01/2022 08:53

More complaining from the Sussex crew? No surprises here Grin

Yes, usually by declaring them to be racist. It's so tedious.

SallyLockheart · 18/01/2022 08:59

Oh dear oh dear oh dear.
Meghan is technically correct - and the wording she insisted upon is the court judgement.
The problem with them jumping all over these minor differences - and they are relatively minor, intent to mislead vs mislead, net end result is very similar - is that it highlights that when they don’t follow up on a story or back down , then it means that the media has a valid story. Eg BBC report re Harry telling the Queen about Lilibet’s name vs seeking permission. The Sussex’s complained , the BBC held firm and we have heard no more about it. Does that mean the BBC story is correct? Likewise the Times report about palace bullying report.

ZenNudist · 18/01/2022 09:04

For a couple that just want to be private individuals and left alone to get on with their life we sure hear a lot from them. It's so tedious.

Porfre · 18/01/2022 09:07

Seriously though.

How do you forget you've briefed a mate who is writing a book about you?

Thoosa · 18/01/2022 09:10

I can distract myself internally through three dire zoom meetings now, debating the differences between “not intending to mislead” (but nevertheless misleading) and accidentally misleading. 🙄

Maybe there is a third variation I should throw in. 😣

EvilPea · 18/01/2022 09:10

Fuck me. What a miserable life they must lead. Constantly spending their life moaning about everyone and everything.

Keep your head down, get on with good stuff. Ignore the rest

Thoosa · 18/01/2022 09:18

Nearly missed that post.

Exactly that! 😂

I read this and thought it was a bit odd when the effect of Meghan arguing over semantics is merely to draw attention again to the fact that, accidentally or not, she was misleading🤔. I think I’d have let it slide…

derxa · 18/01/2022 09:22

God knows. Meghan doesn't seem to me to be particularly dizzy or forgetful. I thought she prided herself on her grasp of detail.
thebellagio · 18/01/2022 09:27

I always thought that was half of the issue when they were working Royals.

My opinion was that Kate and William left their social media to their teams, and avoided reading the newspapers so they were in blissful ignorance of any negative press or comments.

Whereas, H&M would read literally every single thing that was said/written about them and took offence at every single comment which created a catapult of negativity that they've never been able to move past. This could be due to Meghan's background as an actress; she would have been essentially trained to read what people were saying about her, as well as her active space on her blog. And at her level of acting fame, that was probably all good and well - but magnified as a member of the Royal Family it must have come as a huge shock!

But I've also thought that H&M went straight into battle without thinking of the long-term consequences. By fighting the smaller things, they don't have the credibility to fight the big stuff that really matters because it just looks like they are always whining.

TheAnswerIsDontThinkAboutIt · 18/01/2022 09:59

I find it quite sad that they seem unable to just go and live their lives and enjoy their huge wealth and lovely children and general good fortune. There's something really wrong there. All options are open to them. So odd and sad.
