Plankton yes in the context of this thread, just American and English. But in a wider context, he cosied up to despots and oligarchs from all over the world... arms deals, backhanders, and dodgy stuff.

His Wiki page is an eye opener. Yes, I know it's Wiki but there is a lot of verification from sources at the bottom of the page.

We can rattle off CIS and North African Arab states.

That's the next layer of the onion. It's all connected and SO hard to stop mentioning, as PA has interests in so many unethical industries. He's also mates with famous sex offender Peter Nygard, American or Canadian I cannot remember.

This is what most people don't realise. We don't have a free press. If the media wanted to, and wasn't paid off by people in high places, PA and his family would have been toast decades ago. Instead we have Kate playing a piano.

I think she'll have to produce and star in her own West End musical, within the year.

WatchMyChops · 10/01/2022 16:47

Roussette, I think his disgusting behaviour has gone on for far too long. The lack of accountability is a constant reminder that some privileged people feel as though they are somehow above the law.

Buddywoo · 10/01/2022 16:47

I saw a picture of Andrew on Twitter very recently where his shirt was covered in sweat patches. Beatrice and Eugenie were in the photo and they were young adults, so a long time after the Falklands.

SerendipityJane · 10/01/2022 16:51

Hasn't Prince Andrew been named as being close to the Saudis ? (And we know what they do to troublesome journalists ...)

He really has an unerring nose for despicable company.

WinnieTheW0rm · 10/01/2022 16:55

@NiceShrubbery

Surely they wouldn't allow "His Grace". Headline writers would have a field day (Dis-)
They have to, if he retained his dukedom. It's the normal form of address for a duke. Perhaps that's why they're not in a hurry to do that.

Much better, perhaps, to do nothing about his personal styles and titles, and just quietly and inexorablely remove his military ranks and patronages, and leave him in a form of 'exile' at Windsor, appearing only rarely at family occasions. Which essentially means births, marriages and deaths (but christenings often private anyhow, and he can be let in the crowd for marriages and many funerals).

Jubilee occasions will be a bit trickier - but as today's BBC article is foreshadowing even the queen might not be present at as much as originally planned, then it might be possible to lose him from everything except perhaps any formal service of thanksgiving

PlanktonsComputerWife · 10/01/2022 16:58

True, @Roussette, but given who his mum is, was he in any position to decline to associate with anyone on the basis that they were immensely rich or an autocrat?Wink

I think she'll have to produce and star in her own West End musical, within the year.

That's my nightmares for tonight sorted. Cheers.

Roussette · 10/01/2022 17:01

Canadian. And there's pics of SF and him with Nygard who is at present in a Toronto jail on offences of sex trafficking, rape and racketeering... there's a hearing going on at the moment.

Ahhhh but Plankton he was on Trade Envoy business working for us at the time... whilst linking his pockets of course!

It's all a trifle murky, isn't it?

Roussette · 10/01/2022 17:05

It's as murky as a muddy puddle on a misty January day round where I live!

There's an old saying, " show me your company and I'll tell you what you are"!

Malariahilaria · 10/01/2022 17:14

Just catching up with you all as unfortunately, unlike PA, I have to work to earn my keep instead of hob nobbing with dodgy people Wink.

When oh when will the judge decide? I've been keeping myself entertained with the Djokovic story, but honestly I'm just not that invested.

Loving the memes about the queen's pudding on twitter though!

SerendipityJane · 10/01/2022 17:24

I don't think it would matter if we did, to be honest. People don't read the press for the news. They read it to confirm the world is the way they think it is.

derxa · 10/01/2022 18:38

My gran said during the second world war there was a lot of unhappiness at the RF. Did she aye

RoyalFamilyFan · 10/01/2022 19:37

@derxa call me a liar if you want. My gran would never lie.

JanuaryBluehoo · 10/01/2022 19:44

Checking in!
Just re watching the Netflix documentary on it.

People talking about epsteins amazing ability to hoodwink people.

The incredible plea deal that saw him living in an hotel?
The electrician man who worked on the island and saw pa there.

He said another worker said one day, do you have children /daughters? He said that question made him think about what he was doing.

He never went back.
On the other hand apparently pa told vr.... I have daughters nearly your age Hmm then allegedly went onto..

NiceShrubbery · 10/01/2022 20:24

There was deliberate emotional programming of the public by the Ministry of Information from 1939.

The Family Firm by Edward Owens looks like a good read.

Just brilliant.
RoyalFamilyFan · 10/01/2022 20:30

@NiceShrubbery thank you, I will have a look for that.

What I heard was nearer the beginning of WW2 the public began to turn against the RF. Because they were doing nothing and hiding in their palaces. London started to get heavily bombed and people were really suffering. Eventually, the RF realised there was public unhappiness and they started to do the walkabouts of bombed-out streets. That improved their reputation. The RF also claimed they were on the same rations as the public. As they promoted their - we are all in it together narrative - their reputation increased.

oneglassandpuzzled · 10/01/2022 20:35

@PlanktonsComputerWife

in Libya, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tunisia, wherever

I can't recall this second who Libby Purves is, but this line of discussion makes the writer sound rather ignorant and xenophobic to me. We can rattle off CIS and North African Arab states all we like, but the fact remains that Andrew's paedo best friends were English and American.

She’s a very experienced journalist who worked for years on BBC R4 as a presenter of Midweek and writes a regular column for the Times. She’s anything but xenophobic or ignorant.
oneglassandpuzzled · 10/01/2022 20:39

And also presented BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

Plus has written about 12 books.

diddl · 10/01/2022 20:41

"Eventually, the RF realised there was public unhappiness and they started to do the walkabouts of bombed-out streets."

Yes-wasn't it on one that the Queen said that she could look the people in the eye now as they had also been bombed?

But a comment was made about hem not having lost everything & they still had somewhere to live?-not sure about that, but would obviously be true as I think the bomb landed outside the gates-so not really anywhere near!

RoyalFamilyFan · 10/01/2022 20:46

@diddl I get the impression the bombing of the palace was talked up. Yes they were not in danger from the bomb. Although in theory the palace could have been bombed out, I would have thought the anti-aircraft measures over the palace would have been particularly strong.
The Blitz looks terrible to have lived through. It was a very hard time.

NiceShrubbery · 10/01/2022 20:47

Yes, RFF, that is broadly what this book is saying, except in stronger terms. If you sign up for a free account on jstor.org you can read it there.

The emotional bond with the public was painstakingly engineered. It is a fascinating story (to me anyway).

PA is now destroying that bond almost single-handedly.
