Who is planning to watch the carol service on Christmas Eve on ITV hosted by the Duchess of Cambridge?

not me. not my thing. hopefully dd will be home (adult and disabled) and I will be busy with her.

SueSaid · 22/12/2021 12:36

I'll be watching! Love carol concerts and with all the people attending including little Tony Hudgell it will surely be a heart-warming event.

upinaballoon · 24/12/2021 21:32

Well, I had to plan it around other things but I watched it and enjoyed it. There was a woman in a red dress playing the piano and a woman in a white fur wrap not hitting the note straight, like Mr. Pavarotti would have done, and some interesting readings, and carols I know - all in all, not bad.......and that dear little girl doing the start of the prayer and the candle lighters and etc. etc.

Abraxan · 24/12/2021 22:19

The woman in the red dress playing the piano was Duchess of Cambridge, if same clip as on the BBC news.

RoyalFamilyFan · 24/12/2021 22:35

But she didn't play the piano when the concert was filmed?

OverByYer · 25/12/2021 10:36

I watched it, I loved it. Some really good singers and loved the readings as well. Kaye did a great job, and I liked seeing her play the piano

RoyalFamilyFan · 25/12/2021 12:29

Can someone explain the piano playing to me?
She didn't play the piano when the carol service was filmed, so it was edited in. Why do it this way? Is she too nervous to play in front of lots of people?

From the BBC article, "Kate appeared alongside the musician Tom Walker in a clip shown at the Westminster Abbey event.

The pair took part in secret filming at a recording studio ahead of the concert, which was broadcast on ITV."

So it was intended for the TV viewers and it all went to plan. I haven't seen the clip yet but ar Kate has received loads of praise for her performance Wine

As a Royal Family Fan, I'm sure it was a real treat for you Xmas Smile She looks incredible in the photos.

Ah didn’t realise it was pre recorded. Maybe she was nervous. It was beautiful however it was done.

TrueGrit54 · 25/12/2021 15:35

Sensible to pre record, she’s not a professional musician. Haven’t seen the show but may watch it later.

RoyalFamilyFan · 25/12/2021 17:24

@TrueGrit54 so she was too nervous to play in front of people? Or she needed lots of takes to get it right?

rubicscubicle · 25/12/2021 17:49

The media presented it as if its live in front of an audience.

Piers Morgan said she was 'ballsy' to play, so all along I thought she had a live recording with royalists saying things like, there is nothing she can't do, there was so much praise.

Yes, it turned out that it was prerecorded without an audience and several camera takes, according to the musician.

It's confirmed that she 'smashed' the recording (singular) in the BBC article Xmas Smile

You've asked twice about whether Kate was nervous, she nailed the performance so who knows? Most people feel slightly nervous about performing.

BringBackThinEyebrows · 25/12/2021 18:16

You feel misled because you follow Piers Morgan 🤣 lol

Why wouldn't there be praise? It was a brilliant, unexpected performance. Recently, @juliaca was writing about how she wanted to know what Kate's hobbies are, and now she gets a better insight Xmas Smile

SickAndTiredAgain · 25/12/2021 18:25

I’ve not read any of the articles but you’re right about the headlines - but Piers Morgan?? I think his view on anyone and anything can be fairly safely ignored, I’m not sure why anyone would make any assumptions based on something he has said.

rubicscubicle · 25/12/2021 18:58

No, I do not follow Piers, neither did I say I do.

I just read, all the praise, and he was the most prominent, and as usual with most votes, so it was there. Most of the other RRs did praise too.

But I was struck by 'ballsy' , which implied that it was live, and also these people went on about how nerve wrecking it must have been to play in front of people - which implied a live audience.

Also, not sure if that is her hobby, because the singer just said she used to play as a child. Almost everyone plays the piano at prep (or some kind of music instrument).

I also would not say it was 'brilliant'. It was background music like we used to play at school. I did not watch the show, only saw bits on tweeter. Did she doe a 'brilliant' solo?

You follow Piers Morgan enough to know about his opinions. He's easy to completely avoid.

Why do you ask if Kate did a solo? What would that prove? A lot of modern music doesn't even include a solo 😂

Who are "these people"?

rubicscubicle · 25/12/2021 19:33

I do not follow Piers Morgan. Stop lying !
He appears on the timeline for Royal, Covid, govt news etc. So do a lot of people who have opinions that I may or may not agree with. Is your social media limited?

I asked about a solo as that can be described as 'brilliant'. Not background noise. Even at school, we had to do solos, as do my DC. So I was trying to find out where the 'brilliant' and 'ballsy' comments come from. As I said, the singer said KM went away to practice, it was recorded with camera takes. No need to overblow praises.

These people are the royal commentators and other British media reporters.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 25/12/2021 19:37

Haven't watched it yet but bloody hell, for the praise and attention Kate has got for playing something on the piano, you'd have thought that she'd bungeed in to the abbey, battered covid to death, found a cure for cancer and played Rachmaninoff's Third. Talk about infantilising the poor woman!

BringBackThinEyebrows · 25/12/2021 20:08

My social media and newsfeeds are so limited that I never hear about Piers Morgan Xmas Smile

I have to laugh about your suggestion that a musical performance cannot be 'brilliant' unless it includes a solo! You're really scraping the barrel.

The singer actually said they rehearsed the song together.
Then Kate continued to rehearse alone (as anyone would).
Then they met up to record the performance and Kate 'smashed it'.

It's Christmas, why not give yourself a break from getting wound up about Kate being popular, talented, and beautiful?

rubicscubicle · 25/12/2021 20:29

Kate being popular, talented, and beautiful?

lol

RoyalFamilyFan · 25/12/2021 20:44

The articles about the concert give the impression she played the piano live at the concert, rather than recorded it in a studio and showed it on the TV alongside the carol concert.

SickAndTiredAgain · 25/12/2021 22:51

As I said, the singer said KM went away to practice

I have no idea what point you’re trying to make here? Surely that is normal whether you’re a 5 year old just starting the piano, or a concert pianist - everyone needs to practice (I appreciate that a concert pianist could play the piece Kate played without practice, I just mean generally). No one is assuming she just turned up with no prep. I’m assuming the singer rehearsed as well.

rubicscubicle · 26/12/2021 00:54

My point exactly, I don't know why the media keeps treating this middle aged woman like a toddler. No need for the over the top praising like she did a solo Mozart - you do that for children.

The singer actually wrote the song, so no need to try and compare him to KM.

BringBackThinEyebrows · 26/12/2021 09:53

What stands out to me is people who get upset about Kate's existence consume and promote bullshit media.

Celebitchy, star magazine, random Twitter accounts, UK tabloids and their comment sections, Piers Morgan 🤣 How embarrassing.

I haven't seen any articles treating Kate like a toddler. Why are you frothing over something that's entirely avoidable?!
