Starting a new thread as the last one filled up with the usual Meghan debates!

I'm very interested in the relationship between the RF and the press so hope this can be a thread for observations and analysis of what's going on with the media. What they're choosing to report on, and how.

Harry has just released this statement distancing himself from Charles' cash for honours scandal. What was the original article in The Sunday Times, does anyone know?

I think Johnson chose him specifically because Johnson knew he'd had his own party during lockdown. That way he would come up with the right findings... bit of blackmail there.
But then, word got out, and he had to step away from the investigation.

It's interesting isn't it... from Whitehall to the Royals and back again. While I can see he might have the right skillset it does make you wonder about what strings are being pulled and by whom.

@Roussette I totally agree. He was hand picked to come to the "right" conclusion.

Guess the appeal is off the table then.

The Fail has admitted defeat, and a handsome settlement in coming up.

But we knew they would play games though. Boxing Day is a slow news day in general and they tucked the announcement (it's not really an apology) in some little corner.

Anyhoo, time to pay up ! 😀

Good news - Finally the DF concede at the cost to their readers! Thanks for that @rubicscubicle maybe this deserves a thread of its own. Smile

Saw this! I bet they're like a bulldog chewing a wasp having to print it at all !

artquejtion · 26/12/2021 13:20

Could they have made it any less obvious unless they had chosen to write it in another language !!

I thought it was supposed to be an apology, that is just a very bland statement. The DF got their money's worth out of the saga that's for sure..

rubicscubicle · 26/12/2021 13:44

And they have to pay it all back.
MM lawyers want the profits too on top of legal fees etc. During the first trail alone, the fail spent 3M on the case, Then you have to take into consideration around that much for the appeal. 6M down already. Then they have to pay the same, I guess for MM legal fees, so that is 12M - we still have not gone into the damages or what is 'reparations' etc.. It's all piling up, no wonder they had to throw in the towel.

I am not seeing where their win or money's worth is.

It was not supposed to be an apology. The judge concluded that if they write it the same font of the offending article as MM wanted, then it would overlap the real front page news. He gave them the minimum font they could use, but insisted that they not only print it in the front page, but also inside the paper as well as keep it up online for a full week.
Apologies and corrections, never make the front pages in general, and they usually have the smallest print a newspaper can come up with.

They must be feeling the burn of this in their pockets too.

That is a coal from Santa on their stockings. 😀

It actually does not look as small as I though, now I see this person who has a video of the paper

Well, I did eventually find the statement on DM online site, sandwiched between two articles on Jeff Bezos’ (his new buff body and smooching with his girlfriend on holiday😁). Was it placed more prominently earlier?

Following on from the BBC programme, the podcast of the Princes and the Press is out.

Most is what was in the original programme, but more has been added. It's been divided into 5 x 40mins. Lots of interesting extas, that I guess were too sensitive for the TV programme. More about racism (a prof from the US explains the one drop rule) sexism etc. Very good to listen in the background.
