Interesting analysis but who could be paying for this concerted effort? It’s suggested that not only is it coordinated but the people doing it are paid to do so.

@Viviennemary

Charles and William will ond day be Head of State of this country. That's the difference. Dont think H& M realise the difference either by the looks of it. Charles and William are representing Queen and country.
But if everyone is supposed is to do their bit, then surely it’s great that not only Heads of States are participating in the dialogue about this issue. I listened to the Barbados Prime Minister Speech and I thought it was really moving, she talked about how everyone rich & poor have to come together to act. So leaving other people out because they won’t one day be British Heads if States leaves out majority of people who should otherwise get involved.
Serenster · 02/11/2021 19:12

I have already being asked if I’m really British

Is that directed at me, @Zuluqueen? Please don’t mischaracterise my question like that, if so. I asked if you were British because you have several times posted about being proudly South African, and given us your views about how the Sussexes are perceived in South Africa.

Based on this, and because you appeared unfamiliar with the phrase “niggling doubts” as a common figure of speech, I wondered whether you are familiar with British English speech. Mumsnet has a wide readership and I don’t assume that everyone posting here either is British or lives in the UK. I accordingly also didn’t assume every poster would be familiar with British English usages. That was the only reason for my question. You have answered and I accept that.

Samcro · 02/11/2021 19:36

I wasn't out to cause triuble, just my whole life and im pretty ancient. Niggling doubt has been a phrase that i have used and heard used, just googled the word and this is what came up

@Serenster yes that’s from your comment, I which questioned wether I may be be familiar with this word used in Britain.I have said this word used in that headline was bothersome to some black people and warranted discussions about it. I said the word itself is not a problem, and article was not racist but because it went in to criticise M for an engagement photo it bothered some people.
StartupRepair · 02/11/2021 19:42

H and M have pledged that their company/charity Archewell will be net Zero, not that they personally will be. That's how I read it.

Well if we are to criticise HaM for committing to tackle the climate change crisis because they are not future Heads of State , doesn’t that then exclude them & other people who are making similar pledges that’s my question.

I don’t think you were causing trouble at all, I just wanted to explain that I’m the one who mentioned this word and yes I understand that it’s a fairly harmless phrase that’s used here. But that headline bothered some people, and was discussed elsewhere for this reason.
Zuluqueen · 02/11/2021 19:59

@Serenster anyway fair enough, I didn’t mean to mischaracterise your previous comments. We discussed this & a line was drawn, I suppose I’m sensitive to being asked if I’m British for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with you, tbh I should have gone there when replying to @Samcro’s question.

Zuluqueen · 02/11/2021 19:59

‘Should not have gone there’

derxa · 02/11/2021 20:04

Well if we are to criticise HaM for committing to tackle the climate change crisis because they are not future Heads of State , doesn’t that then exclude them & other people who are making similar pledges that’s my question. Well I'm not criticising them. Many if not most organisations should be making pledges and declarations about their commitment to working towards net zero.

I didn’t say you were criticising them. I was merely responding to the question you asked about my comment. And I agree with the rest of your post

Does this logic apply to the rest of RF . Anne / Edward / Andrew. Beatrice & Eugenie/ Or is it only H because he Is arrived to Meghan? So again if this is logic does it mean PW gets a free pass forever because in maybe 15 years he could be King. Maybe that gives him a good while to start setting a good example for the rest of the RF to follow.

should W&K not do more, seeing as they will be head people one day (maybe)
Serenster · 03/11/2021 09:50

@zuluqueen thanks for explaining. I thought our discussion had been perfectly friendly, and am happy to continue it. Smile (I am never sure if that smiley might be seen as passive aggressive though!).

Viviennemary · 04/11/2021 12:02

Latest is that Meghan has been cold calling politicians on their private numbers for political lobbying. Announcing her title. Hmm. Even if I was a fan I woudn't think this was entirely wise

rubicscubicle · 04/11/2021 13:07

'cold calling', you mean rally support for something to help families.

PickupaPenguin8 · 04/11/2021 16:11

What is Harry doing I wonder? Practising his juggling?

Roussette · 04/11/2021 16:52

Pathetic comment. Have you read what this thread is about?

Obviously not

Serenster · 04/11/2021 17:24

@rubicscubicle

She made unsolicited calls to their personal telephone numbers to lobby them - cold calling is a pretty accurate description of that, surely?
Roussette · 04/11/2021 18:21

Not that I read in US press. Which is this...
Sen. Kirsten Gilibrand (D-N.Y.) confirmed to that she gave the duchess the senators’ contact numbers, and had told them in advance that Markle would be calling

“I talked to each of the women senators and let them know that she’s going to reach out, because she only completed two of the calls,” Gillibrand told the outlet Wednesday

“She’s going to call some others, so I let them know in advance,” Gillibrand said

All the criticism I see is from Piers Morgan, Darren Grimes and GB News... no surprise there.

Serenster · 04/11/2021 18:25

The Senator who gave out the private numbers (which is eyebrow-raising to me, at least!) my well be trying to smooth things over though,, as two of the Senators whom Meghan called had this to say:

“Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-West Virginia) recounted what it was like getting a call from Meghan to the outlet. “I’m in my car. I’m driving. It says ‘caller ID blocked,’” she started. “Honestly…I thought it was Sen. Manchin [(D-West Virgina)]. His calls come in blocked. And she goes ‘Sen. Capito?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ She said, ‘This is Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.’”

Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) spoke to Politico's Senate reporter Marianne LeVine about Meghan's outreach to her. “Much to my surprise, she called me on my private line and she introduced herself as the Duchess of Sussex, which is kind of ironic,” Collins said. “I was happy to talk with her. But I’m more interested in what the people of Maine are telling me about it."

Their accounts - both mentioning their surprise - certainly don’t suggest they knew about the plan in advance.

Roussette · 04/11/2021 18:31

I am only posting what has been said, same as you, who knows.

Serenster · 04/11/2021 18:33

Of course, but you’d certainly mention it to me if I only posted one side of the story! Grin

Roussette · 04/11/2021 18:36

Absolutely!
