This according to guess who. The DM of course. To avoid getting papers served says the article. Maybe he's just gone for a nice break. Accompanied by Fergie.

I don’t agree the British press have given Andrew a rough ride. There’s been pages and pages written about his connection to Epstein and his dodgy links to millionaires/billionaires from Kazakhstan.

Roussette · 16/09/2021 15:21

Surely if they were unsure how an outing, whether it be to church, or trotting round Windsor Great park...would be received by the public, you'd err on the side of caution

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 16/09/2021 15:31

But to other parts of the "heavily secular" UK society it just looks like a middle-aged lech and his creepy mother embarrassing the entire country with their shameless cover-up.

No doubt the same "deeply religious" Americans, after being duly impressed by the show of penitence, then got a bit confused when they read the part that said "I will of course cooperate with all appropriate law enforcement bodies, if required".

It's required.

Roussette · 16/09/2021 15:55

I think it was the grin on his face on the church outing that did it for me.
Show you're penitent if that's the reason for it

merrymouse · 16/09/2021 16:25

Whatever the ins and outs of the church outing the meaning of the Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order is pretty clear.

I think part of the problem is that the Queen’s standards for male Royals are different. Duty and service aren’t enough. They have to be seen to be instigating something like the D of E award scheme or the Prince’s Trust or getting involved in international Trade. Egos must be massaged and that gets them into trouble.

merrymouse · 16/09/2021 16:27

I’m not saying that she thinks PA should get involved in international trade, just that he needed a job to make him feel important.

Roussette · 16/09/2021 17:02

I never read anywhere anyone saying ...without PA's influence on trade, we would not have had this or that

He ponced about playing golf all over the world

Gilmorehill · 16/09/2021 17:47

I used to live in Egypt and PA visited there in his capacity as trade envoy in the mid 00s. I think Beatrice tagged along. I knew a couple of Egyptians who were introduced to him at a reception and they were all excited with meeting him. I was like wtf Hmm.

Gilmorehill · 16/09/2021 17:49

And I do remember he managed to squeeze in a round of golf into his two day visit because my FIL was at the club at the same time. So Roussette makes a fair point there.

Roussette · 16/09/2021 17:52

Bearing in mind he was patron to hundreds of golf clubs all over the world (facts readily available) yes!
Not sure what they are now doing with the 'Royal' prefixed to their name now

CathyorClaire · 16/09/2021 21:07

He ponced about playing golf all over the world

And if only golf was the end of it...

Roussette · 16/09/2021 21:12

Yes but where's the comeback?

There never is

It's bad

CathyorClaire · 16/09/2021 21:28

Yes but where's the comeback?

Yet another gong and new dress up uniform apparently Hmm

SpindleWhorl · 17/09/2021 03:58

From the Telegraph this morning:

The Duke of York has suffered an early setback in his US sex assault case after a judge refused to unseal a document that could invalidate the damages claim....

This is the 2009 settlement document, I believe.

Oh dear.

SpindleWhorl · 17/09/2021 04:00

Also, how the hell can be fighting this case while simultaneously saying he hasn't been served and doesn't know anything about it?

Anyway, it's not going so well.

mathanxiety · 17/09/2021 06:20

17 October is a Sunday Confused

Roussette · 17/09/2021 06:29

Oh dear not going well AT ALL.

Some billboards in London and elsewhere...

SpindleWhorl · 17/09/2021 07:02

Guardian reporting that Judge Peska has told Andrew to make an application for the sealed document if he wants a copy.

That of course means that he then is actively acknowledging the case.

Nice one.

Side note: does Andrew know what's in the sealed document? If yes, doesn't that raise rather a lot of questions? If no, then it's a risky strategy.

Plumtree391 · 17/09/2021 07:11

I would have thought his legal team would be able to see it (I don't know how these things work though).

I feel sorry for the young women who are suing Epstein's estate and Ghislane Maxwell, including Virginia Guiffre, for having their names and pictures published. They have done nothing wrong but it seems bad to expose them publicly. We're no better off for seeing them, it would be sufficient to know about them but not for them to be recognisable to all and sundry. Some will blend quite easily into a crowd later but Virginia has the highest profile, quite distinctive looks and an unusual name.

They do show courage of course but it still seems unwise to me. Not nice for their children, those who have them.

This is just my opinion and I admit to being a very private person, I couldn't bear publicity of any kind, but we could know about person A, B, etc, and details of their cases without identifying them.

Roussette · 17/09/2021 07:32

I think VG wants her face and name recognised, she wants to highlight the case, she's a campaigner for sex trafficking victims. She has children and I imagine they are very proud of her.

SpindleWhorl · 17/09/2021 07:36

I was once catapulted into 20 minutes (well, days) of fame, and my teenage DC took it in their stride. In fact they think their mother is 'strong', which is no bad thing.

But I didn't like being stared at in Asda Grin

This judge has PA by the balls. PA is truly stuck.

I think she’s remarkable and she seems genuine to me. No one would choose to put themselves through the trial by media that she has endured for years unless they wanted the truth.

My understanding is that another of the men named in the sealed document had it unsealed and the contents worked to his advantage. He appears to have advised PA’s legal team to take the same course.

Ugh, that sounds so nefarious.
