I like the idea and I like the video. (Not that keen on the big desk) And I though MM looked...alive!

Not sure who the other woman was. But there was good chemistry.

@Greenlittle

Why not a public list? The more publicity, the more the initiative might catch one and spread. And more women helped.

And if it helps Meghan become the compassion queen, well so be it. No skin of my back.

A lot of people would not want to make their deeds public; different for Meghan as she has already has a high profile and has always been passionate about social issues, justice, etc.

'Oh dear, are women with jowls less worthy, MrsMayJune ? If that is the case no wonder so many women over 40 are f*d. You seem to be promoting the idea that only beautiful women have the right to be players. Those less lucky in the looks ratings should butt out and stay out of sight. No mentoring for porky, jowly folk - only gorgeous people deserve to make it.'

Awful isn’t. Lets judge women on how they look. The lack of feminism and empowerment on this thread is woeful.

'She is blessed with genes that allow her to avoid early onset of wrinkles and avoid jowls. You know what I mean.'

I mean wtaf.

Oh gosh, that’s me out then!

I have a tendency to get jowls while DH annoyingly doesn’t.

I think there is a lack of female empowerment. In my view it is the ones who disapprove of MM for being unapologetically out there, open and confident.

I think there is a notion that women should be modest, seen not heard. And this internalised misogyny translates into a knee-reaction of “who does she think she is?”

'I think there is a lack of female empowerment'

Exactly. Women sit down and be quiet, don't you dare have negative opinions on high profile people who constantly put stuff out there in the public eye. How very dare we.

'George Michael did lots of good deeds anonymously'

Yes. This is the type of authentic Good deed doing that I fully respect.

AnnunciataZ · 07/08/2021 11:19

Just when I think it can't get any more ridiculous.

Greenlittle · 07/08/2021 11:19

One of the arguments made by royalists here is that we need RF patronage to bring publicity.

Well if publicity is important, why grudge MM publicising her initiatives?

If it was done in secret, it could hardly turn into a mentoring movement, could it?

Well that is a lot of words you got from one sentence, and frankly, twisting and saying things that the poster never said.

TM has jowls

Doria does not. So MM must have taken from her.

It's a strange idea to bring celebrities in. How can they be aware of the obstacles real women face? I've been trapped outside of the workplace trying to figure out how to align the huge gap between affordable childcare and my modest earning capabilities. A bit of mentoring might have helped but I'm sure a celebrity wouldn't have had the answers I needed.

Mummy194 · 07/08/2021 11:24

@Cacacoisfarraige

George Michael did lots of good deeds anonymously

But MM and HW are building a brand of compassion, which they need to do to generate the money to live their best lives. The main focus of this brand is to generate income, in a compassionate way

George Michael was involved in causes that needed promotion as well.

So, how would you know what other private things that H&M are doing on the quiet.

TBH, the British Media has demonised them so much, they actually do need to openly do good deeds, because lots of people like yourself will judge them as worthless.

Mummy194 · 07/08/2021 11:25

Why are posters acting like these celebrities were handed anything on a platter, when they had to battle so hard to get where they are.

Just to drive their hate for MM?

JingsMahBucket · 07/08/2021 11:26

@Mummy194 they’re deliberately twisting words into hate.

They aren't all celebrities @PearlFriday, as has been pointed out on the thread earlier. There's charities and social enterprises involved too.
PearlFriday · 07/08/2021 11:27

Glad to hear it.

I don't know why she has to grab every opportunity to virtue signal. Geez just turn forty with a party and a glass of bubbly and enjoy your life.

George Michael did a lot of work around HIV/AIDS activism and it was hardly hidden away.

Have you actually looked at who some of these people are? They aren't all celebrities.
Doctors, Scientists, Poet Laureate, US Senator, etc.

@MrsMayJune
What’s also laughable is how the Brits try to follow her ever move even if she left the country you did not want her in. There is also a desperation for her to visit the country

Yes. People really don't like her on here yet you can bet your bottom dollar, if she came over here for a visit for some reason, the number of threads dissecting every little thing about her, would be very very prolific.

I find it weird.

There's a couple of people in the public eye, celeb types, that I have no time for. If a see a thread about them, I avoid it like the plague. I don't go on it and say in a million different ways why that person is awful.

Mummy194 · 07/08/2021 11:36

Most celebrities are building a brand, and you are naive, if you think they are not. There are lots of very talented people out there, and to make sure your movie, or song is promoted to the top of the pops, you have to build a brand that appeals to your audience. That's just how it is.

Roussette · 07/08/2021 11:37

I don't know why she has to grab every opportunity to virtue signal. Geez just turn forty with a party and a glass of bubbly and enjoy your life

So people including Meghan should not try and do good and help others, is that what you're saying?
Just have some friends round a glass of bubbly and revel in how rich you are and sod everyone else...

PearlFriday · 07/08/2021 11:42

No @rousette, that's not at all what I mean and not what I said, there's nobody preventing her from helping people, but it's all so publicised. And linked to a big birthday.
Whatever.

Greenlittle · 07/08/2021 11:46

Outside of the Queen as HoS the rest of the RF purpose is build around so called charity patronage work.

Nothing wrong with it (except that it absolutely shouldn't be funded by the taxpayer).

I think what MM and Harry are doing is fine. It is great that they are building a compassion brand. It counters the hate and divisive brands that are already popular.

The biggest compassion brand ifs OW, I think. Angelina Jolie has also been quite public. And I think they might move more full time into this, like Bill and Melinda. And the Obamas.

Harry is a big enough name. And with Meghan’s charisma and innovative approach, they might be able to really build their brand and do good for others.

Without doing it at the expense of taxpayers and a heavy-handed state led patronage approach

But Pearl how on earth can this mentoring initiative gain traction and have more and more come on board without publicity? Beats me how.

What people (this is not directed at you) really want is for her to never speak, never use her voice, not leave the house, and not use any platform she has to make things better for others. And that's a bit sad in my book.
Let's say 40 or 400 or 4,000 women gain an advantage from this idea, surely it's a good thing Meghan publicised it on her birthday and made it happen.

AnnunciataZ · 07/08/2021 11:55

I think they need to stop using their titles though. They've moved overseas, they don't receive funding/security courtesy of the taxpayer, they've paid back the Frogmore renovation costs and now "they're trading on their titles" seems to be a common refrain. So if they give those up then there shouldn't be anything to nitpick over, right?

JingsMahBucket · 07/08/2021 11:58

Why should they give up their titles? They’ve literally done nothing wrong.

And you’re naive if you think people still wouldn’t nitpick at them or harass them even if they relinquished their titles.
