If Meghan was not estranged from her father before their wedding, then why had he not met her fiance?

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/08/2020 17:00

The Queen should share her jewellery! I wonder why she doesn't. I wish all the royals wore way more bling.

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/08/2020 17:02

I do think it is a stretch to think AK was deliberately trying to not let MM try on the tiara she was going to wear for her wedding. I suspect the simplest explanation is that there was just a communication breakdown rather than nefarious forces at play.

Roussette · 02/08/2020 17:02

There was something on twitter in the last couple of days that William and AK teamed up to stop MM wearing any of the Queen's jewels

That's horrible. You'd hardly feel accepted into the family would you? What on earth was the reason for this?

If they were estranged then surely he would not be invited to the wedding, let alone be expected to walk her up the isle.
ajandjjmum · 02/08/2020 17:03

Maybe AK was giving SR staff the runaround.

Why would she? She is a professional who has earned the Queen's trust over many years.

She was also the person who offered MM advice on wearing a hat for the engagement she undertook with HM - that MM chose to ignore.

FannyCann · 02/08/2020 17:04

Is it part of her job to hand out tiaras? Great job title.
When there is a state banquet and lots of royal ladies turn up in tiaras and other sparklers it must be a busy time. There is so much we don't know!!!

I'm sure we've all seen programmes with clips of footmen preparing the banqueting hall, polishing the table and measuring the exact distance of the seats and table setting. How have the programme makers missed the bit when the tiaras are handed out! I'd love to see that bit. Grin

Yes, this may well be.

Maybe ppl should not be quickly jumping into saying MM was demanding as an American either. And this view sounds like it's some kind of consensus .

lifestooshort123 · 02/08/2020 17:05

@Mummy195
Isn't part of her job to hand out the tiaras? Then if there are long procedures, she should inform the person needing it in advance, and have it cleaned in advance, after all she would know that a hair dressing rehearsal is due.

Perhaps it had been cleaned in advance and put back in the vault. Surely once the tiara had been agreed on, AK could have said "get your people to call my people about a rehearsal date" and then hairdresser, tiara and MM would have all been in the right place at the right time.

Serenster · 02/08/2020 17:07

So you all have a problem with office manager on this thread, but showgirl at the palace is a playful reference

No Mummy185, I have a problem with how you personally used the term office manager because, in context, you clearly intended to be dismissive of Angela Kelly by ridiculing the nature of her position.

We have no idea of the specific context of the showgirl reference - who allegedly said it, when, to whom, in what manner etc. This makes a huge difference, especially when there is a well-known cultural background to the term being used with reference to relationships specifically of this nature.

Samcro · 02/08/2020 17:08

Just watched the documentary on Princess Anne, wow she is impressive.
The younger royals could all do with being a bit more like her.

Ideally.

But it does not sound like that is what happened.

Wouldn't it be fabulous if they wore their crowns and tiaras every day? Grin

It's such a pity that they're locked away in the vaults and seldom worn.

Can someone provide a source for this more than ‘something on Twitter’? This is surely just speculation and gossip. If we are not allowed to discuss Blind Gossip then ‘something on Twitter’ should not be speculated on.
Serenster · 02/08/2020 17:11

And by the way, you are right, loads of people in the Royal Family could be described as "having baggage". Princess Beatrice's new husband Edo is another one - he has a young son from a past relationship.

EthelMayFergus · 02/08/2020 17:12

195 - If they were estranged then surely he would not be invited to the wedding, let alone be expected to walk her up the aisle

That didn't happen though, he didn't go to the wedding or walk her up the aisle, so how do you know he was invited or expected to do anything, when none of that actually transpired?

Anyway, you didn't answer my question; why do you think he didn't meet Harry in the two years they were together before marriage?

Roussette · 02/08/2020 17:13

I have heard the phrase 'the prince and the showgirl' but I've never heard it used and would think in this context, it would be a bit rude to be honest.
I've always thought of it as a derogatory term... here's the wiki meaning.
"A showgirl is a female dancer or performer in a stage entertainment show intended to showcase the performer's physical attributes, typically by way of revealing clothing, toplessness, or nudity"

Why, in this day and age, anyone with an artistic bent should be referred to as a show girl, goodness only knows, and that applies to the palace too.

That trail of thought wouldn’t create as many clicks or sell as many books though.

AK has never been known for doing anything other that fully supporting HMQ and since the tiara had been agreed to be loaned to Meghan, I can’t see she would have done anything other tried to oblige within the rules of the establishment.

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/08/2020 17:14

Lol this takes me back to the olden days of mn with quote your source Wink

I googled and it was dan wootton. I don't follow him personally but it was liked by someone I do follow. Is that acceptable?

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/08/2020 17:15

And as I said I think it is highly unlikely.

As an aside, a lot of the stories from blind gossip have turned out to be true.

SunbathingDragon · 02/08/2020 17:16

Wouldn't it be fabulous if they wore their crowns and tiaras every day? I appreciate wearing them is probably very uncomfortable and causes headaches and neck/back pains but I think we should all campaign for a new law to see them wearing crowns and tiaras daily. Grin It’s such a waste for them to just be a vault until special occasions. Surely if there is a perk of being in the RF, it’s the jewellery?! Grin

Witch25 · 02/08/2020 17:16

Can we please stop discussing Angela Kelly on this thread? So far we have had a horrible snobbish article about which definitely ripped her to pieces and not we are calling her an office manager. I thought we had moved away from a negative thread but this is very negative.
H & M were wrong to mention her also regardless on what went on which as @Roussette said, we do not know. She is an employee and not the Queen’s grandson. She cannot use her friends to answer the media in regards to her involvement or she will be sacked. She does not have the right of reply and I think it is wrong to discuss her when she cannot answer back.

Roussette · 02/08/2020 17:17

Dan Wootton is very antiMM so why was he making this point about W&K stopping MM being able to wear any of the royal jewels. Unless he was questioning her character on this...
I think I've answered my own question Hmm

I watched the Princess Grace documentary last night, and she and Ranier were also labelled 'The Prince and the Showgirl'.

Interesting - obviously different times, but she had a tough ride settling in to Royal life in Monaco. I suppose again there would be a massive culture clash.

Roussette · 02/08/2020 17:18

Witch25 I agree and also think it is an aspect of all of this that is not worth discussing TBH, but that's just me!
