Are we really back here again?

I didn't know we'd been here. I'm certainly not criticising Catherine for whom I have great admiration. I was discussing AK and Palace dress making generally. I think it's a bit mean C was left to learn the hard way through early mistakes. That is all. And yes, it's great she wears high street but it would be very simple to slip weights into those hems if anyone had offered.

Bluntness100 · 02/08/2020 15:38

Catherine has her own dresser. It’s not a case that they had to share Kelly. And weighting down hems can ruin outfits and how they hang.

But re the tiara, if someone told you that an appointment need to be made to have access, why would you rather see that as a slight than think, "oh yes of course, that makes sense!"?

If it had been arranged for the hairdresser to come to London for the fitting and you hadn't thought to arrange an appointment that might have been a bit of a disappointment. Sometimes it is how you deal with ;life's disappointments that says most about you. Whatever version of this story is true it doesn't sound if H handled it as well as he could have.

Report
AnneOfQueenSables · 02/08/2020 15:56

Perhaps it was embarrassment that the hairdresser had flown in from a different country for the appointment and then they didn't have the tiara? It could even have been that M asked H to arrange it. He said it would be fine and then it was only on the day that he realised there was a process and it wasn't like the Argos catalogue on granny's knee Wink or that they couldn't just give M the key code, tell her under which rock the key was hidden, etc.

Have to agree that the calling H dim is annoying.
He might not be an academic, but that does not make him dim.

I think this whole debacle has exposed Harry’s weaknesses for the world to see. He comes across as entitled, ignorant, rather dim and weak.

I thought the thread had moved on from name calling and derogatory labelling H&M.

Since H has been in the palace all his life, could he have seen other ppl seeming to get their tiaras quickly with no problems.
The engagement was announces months before, yet it looks like the hair thing was a week before the wedding, which means it should have been ready by then. How long does it take to arrange this tiara, I mean it sure was wrestled up pretty quickly for Bea's last minute wedding.

According to a PP, it was a logistics issue. No-one had made an appointment to ensure Angela Kelly would be available, and she wasn't even in Buckingham Palace that day.

Report
meercat23 · 02/08/2020 16:07

I am sure it doesn't take long but it apparently needs to be arranged by appointment. If AK is based at Windsor and she needed to come to BP she would probably not be able to just drop everything and come there and then.

@BalloonSlayer
"This girl" could sound very dismissive and snobbish with a certain tone of voice (William's, in Harry's opinion) or it could sound ardent and tender in another (eg Harry's in the engagement interview).

It's clearly not just about the actual words.

That is what I was thinking. Also H has known W all his life, so he is well placed to know when he is being condescending.

I also think the book is being tame (unless we hear later in the proper book itself later some more explosive revelations), I suspect that there is more to the disagreement of the brothers that came out later. They had seemed all fine during the engagement, the Fab Four, wedding etc. Something changed somewhere along when the stories were being leaked. My guess, from H lawsuit against Dan W, is that it involves the leaks from the palace.

Not sure why H should know the ins and outs of choosing and fitting Tiaras though. I am sure he would have been aware of his mother and K borrowing them but I can't see why he would have be involved or even aware of the details.

Mummy 195 you seem to be suggesting that this is an example where MM was treated less favourably or reasonably than others. Do you know something that makes you think this?

Perhaps the tiara wasn’t even stored at Buckingham Palace. Perhaps they needed a little bit of advance warning to get it out of wherever they store the bling.

I am lucky enough to have some very nice pieces of heirloom jewellery which due to their history are stored 500 miles from where I live. If one of my lovely DILs wanted to wear something they would need to give us a bit of notice.

Mummy so what you are saying is that H cooperated with FF. After all there were only two people during this conversation and I doubt W spoked to Omid Scobie.

If that is the case, it sure sounds like AK is the proverbial Office Manager who rules the stationery cupboard with an iron fist. lol.

I can then see some of the small little wiggles of changing minor details. Yes, the tiaras are super valuable, but if the date is looming and there has been no fitting in sight, maybe she could have asked what arrangements have been made since she is not going to be at the office all week. I am sure the Queen has one or two more sure trusted ppl to do the job.
But that is not what the book is saying, it sounds like she did not avail herself for any dates.

AnneOfQueenSables · 02/08/2020 16:17

Despite our previous jokes about H having a penchant for tiaras, I can't imagine he paid any attention to how Diana or Kate arranged to borrow them. Also Diana had her own tiara, didn't she? So perhaps she kept her jewels separately and didn't need to book appointments.
As an aside, there are some amazing jewels in Indian Matchmaker on Netflix. They are beautiful.

More like maybe that is how H explained it later to someone, like the source.

Gratuitous name calling, sure. That doesn't mean that no criticism is permitted - MN did say in one of their posts on moderation that this was not the position. The question is whether it's merited or disproportionate. I totally agree @Samcro that academic talent isn't everything. However, given Harry's unrealistic expectations of his half in half out royal life I'd have to agree that he's not coming across as having much general common sense either. In fact I'm becoming more persuaded that he's the root of the problem here and has done
Meghan a disservice in not properly explaining what royal life really involves.

Report
Roussette · 02/08/2020 16:27

We'll never know exactly what went on will we? Maybe Harry assumed something he shouldn't, maybe Angela Kelly was a tad obstructive, maybe she wasn't.
It's a nothing story because we'll never found out exactly. And even if we did, the chances are each party has a different version of what happened.

I don't know if he would need to know the ins and outs, but he has seen plenty of women wearing one at the palace. He must have had a reason to think AK was dragging her feet though.

Speaking of all these petty things. Have the papers found out yet who called MM a showgirl, and which senior royal thought it was a good idea to tell staff that she comes with baggage. Because that seems rather more serious things to me, to plant those kind of seeds in employee brains to make them undermine MM.

I think it's always difficult for the second child in an hereditary monarchy. I wonder if W&K are hoping that having three children will make it easier for the second child because the heir becomes the odd-one-out, and the other two can bond about not having to rule.

He may have had a reason to think AK was dragging his feet mummy, whether he had a legitimate reason to belief so is another matter entirely.

I very much doubt AK refused to make herself available on any dates. That is really a stretch. It's much more likely to have been some kind of misunderstanding on both parts.

I agree with the point Buttery - I think - made previously that calling out royal employees who have limited right of reply lest risking their own jobs is very bad form. No chance AK has more agency on this scenario than the Queen's own grandson. They are sounding like bullies, whether they meant to or not and it is surprising to be this wouldn't occur to them.

Noooo!! Harry told Megs. Megs told witness A,BC, D Or E (and/or anyone else you can think of m) and they told Omid. Not a first hand story but accurate enough. Everyone leaks like this! They don’t do it themselves.

Camilla Long is spot on.
