Here we are, let's inform, discuss, share and respect. Smile

It would be interesting to hear what is said in the board room following these calls. Very soon the CEOs will start to become ‘unavailable’. It is a laudable objective, but I am not sure why Harry, (aka Meghan as she is the real voice here) think they again ‘know best’ about how the whole world should behave.

Roussette · 07/08/2020 09:08

I agree Buttery, it's what is needed and wanted but how to get there is another matter. To my mind, it's opening discussion but where that will lead who knows

Have they said they 'know best'? I missed that bit lol

From the Telegraph article -

"the Duke of Sussex said that he and his wife have spent the past few weeks calling business leaders and marketing executives on the issue".

Calling companies and telling them what they should do. Writing op-eds berating social media companies and advertisers.

More preaching. What makes them think they have the authority to do this? What will the companies think?

Plus there's the hypocrisy too - hasn't Meghan relied on social media to self-publicise and further her career?

ajandjjmum · 07/08/2020 09:20

No-one would talk to them without their connection with the Royal Family. They as individuals are of no interest. That's not to say that they couldn't earn respect, but it won't happen if they continue on the current path. They think they're special, and they're not. IMO

Oldbutstillgotit · 07/08/2020 09:21

In principle I think it is a worthwhile idea however I am not convinced that H any longer has the status and gravitas to lead this. Just my opinion.

mrscampbellblackagain · 07/08/2020 09:25

They would do well to look at what self styled 'sussex squad' people post on twitter about William and Kate. Maybe urging their own fans to be kind online would be a good way to start.

Tezza1 · 07/08/2020 09:29

@Roussette: Of course. Did you think that I randomly picked Blackadder? Coincidence? I think not. Obviously, I personally think there’s a similarity to Rowan Atkinson, but as Blackadder, not Mr Bean.

I meant that Rowan Atkinson can look extremely attractive.

Or at least, to me in the right circumstances.

KatherineParr4 · 07/08/2020 09:29

Yes., along with not being involved with the writing of a book full of vitriol about the RF. Or making digs through ‘friends’. That would be a start on the road towards being ‘kind’. Oh and also perhaps taking your fiancé to meet your father before a huge public wedding .

Roussette · 07/08/2020 09:34

Tezza1 Got you... I thought you meant the original Blackadder from elizabethan times! Yes, he looked v good in the series Grin

Katherine that's them put in their place then! Not sure the fiancé meeting father bit has anything to do with his op-ed...

mrscampbellblackagain · 07/08/2020 09:44

Yes, co-operating (and come on I think most people think they did now) with a book that makes so many digs about your bil and sil is hardly kind.

Honestly, I think his point is valid but it has more impact when you walk the walk rather than just talking the talk.

pctmmn · 07/08/2020 09:45

Do we have to be positive about them here?

I agree with you. It really is a worthwhile cause and he may well no longer have the status to influence businesses but I'm glad he's trying. It needs to be spoken about.

Thread title says it all.
All welcome

Lashing out at social media culture now, when their entire 'grand plan' was based on eschewing mainstream media and promoting themselves via Instagram, seems like sour grapes.

It's more of the 'poor me'.

Poor us, we got negative Instagram comments. It's unfair. Instagram wouldn't let us transfer our fans over. It hasn't worked out for us.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 07/08/2020 10:00

I didn't read it as lashing out. More of a raising awareness, but I guess everyone comes at it from their own perspective.

Noidea2114 · 07/08/2020 10:14

I thought they moved overseas for privacy.

Serenster · 07/08/2020 10:18

I’d find Harry’s message more persuasive if the Sussexes themselves were taking the lead in this. But they are absolutely not. Omid Scobie’s podcast this week had an interview with one of the leaders of the twitter Sussexsquad (not known for their kindness, in fact better known for their vitriol), a poster called Dani, who said she’d been contacted by “Team Sussex” directly who had asked if if she had anything planned to support Meghan. Feeling pressured, she came up with the “inspiredbyMeghan” birthday donation. Now, there are obviously awful keyboard warriors on both sides here, but I was quite taken aback to hear Meghan and Harry are in direct contact with the online mean girls who post some really awful things online. Although, since they are, maybe start with trying to tone that down, since you clearly have some influence there?

derxa · 07/08/2020 10:24

Nishky · 07/08/2020 10:26

@Serenster - I agree absolutely- some of the stuff on Twitter from supporters of the Sussexes is truly horrific

derxa · 07/08/2020 10:42

That seems a very good cause. Does Meghan donate herself? I suppose we'll never know.

Serenster · 07/08/2020 10:47

Derxa yes, the cause is excellent. And there’s nothing wrong at all with the initiative save for the fact that, charitable endeavours aside, the sussexsquad are absolutely vile on twitter ( try searching what they were saying about Angela Kelly, for example, after her name was published in an excerpt from Finding Freedom). I also am raising my eyebrows that the Sussex representatives actually prompted it themselves. So what looks like a lovely spontaneous demonstration of their grassroots popularity Is actually organised PR.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 07/08/2020 10:53

I don't suppose we will ever know if she personally donates money. However, the promotion of the cause can only be a good thing, in my opinion.

Yes to the very nasty Sussex squad - lead by example indeed.

Also: what looks like a lovely spontaneous demonstration of their grassroots popularity Is actually organised PR.

It's an excellent cause but how they've gone about it smacks of ask not what I can do for you, but what you can do for me.

A campaign "in honour of " them??? That is embarrassing, if they had any sense they'd say please don't!
