More News on Harry and Meghan

Two little bits of news I read today. First the bells won't ring out at Westminster Abbey for Meghans birthday next month and she'll be devastated. No I don't think she'll even expect them to ring. And I had to smile at Bogart the dog was left behind in Canada because it didn't take to Harry. What else could she do. Hardly leave Harry behind. And it would have been a worry with a baby in the house too. She did the right thing here.

Roussette, you really have no sense of humour at all, do you?

I think that there are times when rehoming a pet to someone trusted to look after them is kinder all round. I’m not sure what angle the media is going for but as I understood it Bogart was deemed to old to be suitable for long distance travel back in 2017 so stayed in Toronto, so I’m not sure why it’s being brought back up again as it’s not a recent thing (unless I’ve missed something). Also if too old in 2017, I am guessing the dog must be very elderly now we are midway through 2020.

I work with rescue dogs and would definitely choose the dog over the DH Grin

When it comes to dogs with trust issues, it’s all about if people are willing to put the time and effort in. We’ve had many dogs who are terrified of men in general or show aggression to particular family members and it’s our job to work through that with them.

Once they’re ready, we’d only rehome them to people who are willing to keep up that effort. We regularly have people take them on assuring us that they’re a perfect match and can keep up the training only for them to return the dog a few weeks later. It’s really not that uncommon, sadly.

I don’t think for one minute the dog is suffering or being mistreated; but I do feel bad that he might not have a “loving, warm” home where he is really part of the family if you see what I mean. We’ve seen a bad side of Jessica M. recently where she has definitely shown herself as a bully, and for me being a bully and being kind doesn’t go hand in hand. I’m sure Bogart is fed, walked, etc but I’m talking about TLC and affection, which he might not have if the person who is looking after him didn’t really intend to have a dog. On the other side he may be having lots of fun with JM’s children.
Rehoming dogs is definitely the best option and only option in some cases, however working at an animal charity, I get confronted all the time with people giving up their animals because they can’t be bothered to put in the work to fix any issues. Even in those cases, I try not to be judgemental because if someone doesn’t want the animal for whatever reason, I prefer them to go to someone who really wants it. But it’s hard not to be sad for the animals when you see them being given up very easily just for basic convenience. I’m not saying at all that is the case here, it’s a general comment, but does happen and very often.

I brought it up because it was in the news yesterday or the day before. Saying the real reason Bogart didn't come to the UK was because it didn't like Harry. Awww! I bet it could be because somebody illtreated Bogart once and they looked like Harry or maybe the dog was jealous. That can often happen I believe.

Absolutely @Viviennemary

We had one long term foster who, despite months of work, couldn’t tolerate bald men.

Report
Kiwiz · 19/07/2020 13:23

Oooooops

And that was because he had been badly beaten by his previous owner (bald man).

I'm not going to derail the thread with that !

Sorry, by saying bringing it up I did mean the media and not you. It seems odd for the media (and a huge number of different sites at that) have articles on it. Sometimes there is an ulterior motive so perhaps soon we will hear about an injunction or something where names can’t be mentioned and alongside that news articles which are often completely irrelevant and innocuous but turn out to be about the person concerned.

@Kiwiz
Ahhhh this is your first post on here! Its making sense now.
Yes, I agree, I've always been told I have a good SOH, so thank you.

Not getting into a spat with you, much as you'd like that.
Have yourself a good afternoon.

Finding Freedom has been slashed in price on Amazon. The Audible book is free!

Perhaps Omid got a bit carried away with his print run!

If I was one of the people who pre ordered at full price I wouldn’t be best pleased.

Special offers are pretty standard for these types of books. I shouldn't think many people will pay the full price. I also think there will be a lot of people taking advantage of Kindle's refund facility.

What’s their refund policy?

I think it’s fairly normal for books to be reduced especially since a cheaper price could mean more sales which could then make it a bestseller which is something preferable to an author.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 19/07/2020 19:08

The reason I was asking is that I thought the book was already a bestseller when it went on pre sale. Can’t understand the logic of reducing price before it is released. Surely that could be done on day 2 of the release.

As I said, if I had bought the book or any book on pre sale for full price and then it was reduced before I received it, I would seriously consider cancelling my order.

Report
SunbathingDragon · 19/07/2020 19:18

I see what you mean and yes, I agree as I would cancel an order as well. Perhaps that means it hasn’t sold that many copies after all if they are prepared to take that risk?

I wonder what defines a book to be classed as a bestseller.

Report
SunbathingDragon · 19/07/2020 19:27

Having Googled it quickly, it appears it takes very little to become a best selling book. Potentially if you can sell 1000 in 24 hours, then you’ll stay on the Best Seller list. What’s even better is that you can buy all of them yourself via the preorder and then cancel them all!!

There are lots of articles on it but this one shows how we really can’t believe a best selling book is what the banner suggests. observer.com/2016/02/behind-the-scam-what-does-it-takes-to-be-a-bestselling-author-3-and-5-minutes/amp/

Just to make clear that I am not in any way saying that any of the authors who have written about H&M or anyone else have ever done this.

Going back to the bells, they have never rung for her. Here's an article from May 19 about it.

Bringing it up now is unfounded muck-racking

Harry no longer gets them either (cuts off after the Cambridge brood)

I'd choose the DDog over a husband too!

But not over DC, and Archie at a problematic age.

It's sometimes better not to stress the dog, and more tactful to attribute responsibility to (presumably consenting) adult than child

That’s interesting so as said by a PP, once the crown passes to HMQ presumably it will stop ringing for Anne, Andrew and Edward (I am assuming HMQ will outlive PP) anyway.
