Harry and Meghan biography

Hasn't Prince Harry learnt anything from his mother's experience of having someone write her biography 'to set the record straight'? Couldn't they have at least waited until after his grandmother's death, however long that might be?

They would not have put a back number judge on this one. It’s got to be watertight.

whatisthislifesofullofcare · 01/05/2020 19:07

mamamia

Me neither but it sounds like it is perfect because she ran a draft past friends then on the basis of feedback, drafted the perfect copy.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/05/2020 19:24

True enough, though I don't suppose it'll stop the moaning now that it's not going completely Meghan's way

About the "perfect looking" letter though - I guess to judge that we'd need to know what her usual letters look like? Have any others come to light for the purposes of comparison?

CallmeAngelina · 01/05/2020 19:26

The more typing I do nowadays, the more my handwriting has suffered. If I ever have to write a personal letter where type would be inappropriate, I would compose and edit it on the laptop, and then copy it out by hand afterwards.

whatisthislifesofullofcare · 01/05/2020 19:30

good point, puzzled
(the banana writing won’t count)

ARoseInHarlem · 01/05/2020 19:35

Who the fuck even sends letters these days?!

ARoseInHarlem · 01/05/2020 19:37

Actually, I know who sends letters.

People with easily identifiable handwriting. People who send registered mail (signed for).
People with a lot of time on their hands.
People who don’t know how to send or receive email, or believe it may be intercepted.
That’s about it.

My money’s on the first or the last.

DeRigueurMortis · 01/05/2020 19:38

Mama I too agree.

To add to your comment I think it's also well know that M has had a long standing interest in calligraphy the pre-dates her relationship with H.

That said I just can see how she can win this even if she "wins".

Yes she'll get her legal costs paid and presumably some reparations (plus the satisfaction of giving the MOS a bloody nose) but if her friends testify in her favour then the conclusions below follow:

  • she's shown poor judgement in selecting her friends if they are prepared to leak private information
  • she's also shown poor judgement about the information she shares with a wide circle of said friends
  • her friends are fundamentally unhelpful and misguided in how they support her, ergo can't be trusted
  • she's prepared to put her supposedly closest and most trusted friends in the position they have to humiliate themselves and publicly admit they fucked up in order that she can wage a war with the media
  • ergo whilst her friends might be loyal to her (albeit misguided in their actions) her loyalty and friendship to them is questionable
  • which then all fuels the narrative that she's supposedly ruthless about cutting off/ghosting people when they've outlived their usefulness to her

It's just a car crash in slow motion.

Nikhedonia · 01/05/2020 19:38

MM was a professional calligrapher (she did wedding invitations etc whilst auditioning) I'm not sure much can be read into the letter being perfectly scripted.

MrsJoshNavidi · 01/05/2020 19:38

I would never send a letter to any one that had words crossed out.

I think you're probably unusual in that, though have heard others say the same.

My letters are full of crossings out. I think faster than I write and my hand can't keep up.

M has a beautiful hand though. He handwriting is lovely.

DeRigueurMortis · 01/05/2020 19:39

Sorry "can't see".

GingerScallop · 01/05/2020 19:45

I don't think this means an end to speaking circuit. They represent a woke "global" couple. Or at least they market themselves as global. US fans will see anti-American thing from Brits. And racism. And that's all very much what Hollywood and Silicon valley are about. Then there are the millennial fans. What older generation see as shameless self promotion is everyday life for those growing under Facebook and Instagram and Twitter. And the world will need glamorous distractions after covid. The corporates to avoid real reform and the others to keep brands. They will be fine

whatisthislifesofullofcare · 01/05/2020 19:53

How did her friends get to know about the letter, and why would they decide to speak about a letter which, at that point in time, had not seen the light of day? The timing is too cute.

Then afterwards, when her father released the letter for publication, why not sue him, if this is about breach of copyright?

thenightsky · 01/05/2020 19:55

As for buying a copy of their drivel, I was also thinking I could obtain one second hand at some stage.

Oxfam bookshop, this time next year (or sooner).

Archebaldpenguin · 01/05/2020 20:01

I think the lesson learnt by HandM will be “don’t fuck with the RF”.

Archebaldpenguin · 01/05/2020 20:04

To rephrase George Bernard Shaw’s famous quote:

Never wrestle with the Royal Family.

You’ll both get dirty but the Royal Family will come out squeaky clean.

TinRoofRusty · 01/05/2020 20:12

US fans will see anti-American thing from Brits. And racism.

From what I hear they are losing 'fans' fast over there, too.

Justmuddlingalong · 01/05/2020 20:12

Samantha's been a bit quiet recently. Do you think she's
A. Been legally warned to zip it
B. Seen the error of her ways, or
C. Wearing a t shirt that say "I told you so?"

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/05/2020 20:18

C Grin

catinb0oots · 01/05/2020 20:21

C - I'm sorry I'm dying

DeRigueurMortis · 01/05/2020 20:28

I posted similar on a previous thread a while ago but I think they are still mentally in the same place.

They keep lobbing bombs whilst justifying lighting the fuse on the next as a result of the wounds they've received from the self created shrapnel of their previous detonation.

It's a vicious cycle of their own making.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 01/05/2020 20:39

I think if people want to read the content they ought really be prepared to pay for the book.

However you could do what a group of friends did when the Andrew Morton book about Diana came out.

One bought it, the others borrowed it in turn and donated the cover price to charity. It turned out to be quite an earner!

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/05/2020 20:41

Ooh that’s an excellent idea!

MaryHill · 01/05/2020 20:44

I think the book will be full of glossy photos and some sycophantic dictated words from Omid.

A sort of coffee table Hello production number.

WIth proceeds to carefully curated charities, including Archewell.

And nothing juicy, really.

nauticant · 01/05/2020 21:13

why not sue him, if this is about breach of copyright?

Copyright is about the right to stop people making unauthorised copies. It's not a confidentiality right. Therefore, if a media outlet publishes something in hard copy or on a website thus leading to the creation of many thousands of copies (but it doesn't have to be that many), the target for the copyright holder is the newspaper.
