A continuation of the thread discussing the Cambridges' contribution to the pandemic.

OP posts:
Wolfgirrl · 27/04/2020 19:56

Anyone see the coverage of the Spanish king and queen out and about today?

Wolfgirrl · 27/04/2020 20:46

I say this as it's interesting their advisors clearly think it is safe for them to conduct some public engagements despite Spain being in a worse state than the UK. And, you know, they're older than Wills, and the next in line to their throne is their 14 year old daughter.

I'm sure mamamia can come up with another feeble explanation.

BurneyFanny · 27/04/2020 20:49

along with accusing threadsters of being under-educated.

Clavinova · 28/04/2020 15:42

No, but I've just read this;

"Every evening across Europe shouts, applause, and banging can be heard in neighbourhoods as people lean out of their windows, cheering the efforts of hospital workers amid the coronavirus pandemic."

"But on March 18, Spaniards in lockdown bashed their pots and pans in protest of King Felipe VI during his national broadcast over multiple scandals involving his father."

Early March - Spain's king and queen were both tested for coronavirus after the queen shook hands and kissed a government minister - who later tested positive for coronavirus;

Wolfgirrl · 28/04/2020 17:08

I wasnt posting about scandals. I dont care about those. I havent even mentioned them in relation to our own RF.

I was addressing the last post saying Wills is sat by the pool because it is too dangerous for him to go out and risk catching the virus.

Mamamia456 · 28/04/2020 17:19

Wolfgirrl - Sat by the pool? You must be joking it's bloody cold out there today.

Wolfgirrl · 28/04/2020 17:20

More deflection. This is the least satisfying debate I have ever had.

Mamamia456 · 28/04/2020 17:24

Wolfgirrl - Haha how many more times, it's not a debate, it's just killing some time while in lockdown.

Clavinova · 28/04/2020 17:29

I see that an elderly Spanish princess died of coronavirus in Paris last month;

Last week was quite busy - William's comedy sketch with Stephen Fry, Louis' birthday, Wednesday's diary;

The Duke of Cambridge this morning held a Meeting with staff from Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust via a conference call.

His Royal Highness, Joint Patron, the Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, afterwards held a Roundtable Meeting to discuss emergency responder mental health and wellbeing via video link.

The Duke of Cambridge later held a Meeting with The Crown Prince of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan via telephone.

The Duchess of Cambridge this afternoon held a conference call with members of staff at Kingston Hospital.

Clavinova · 28/04/2020 17:35

it is too dangerous for him to go out and risk catching the virus.

You might be right -

"A soldier who served in the same regiment as Prince William and Prince Harry has died from the coronavirus. Ryan Cartwright, 36...is not thought to have had any underlying medical conditions and leaves behind a daughter..."

Wolfgirrl · 28/04/2020 17:43

William isnt elderly. And being royal does not make you more susceptible, believe it or not they are humans just like us. And since when did your child's birthday count as 'busy' in a work sense? Should we all get the day off work for our kids birthdays?

Clavinova · 28/04/2020 17:57

Should we all get the day off work for our kids birthdays?

If 1.5 million people acknowledge your child's birthday photos on Instagram, then my answer would be yes!

Mamamia456 · 28/04/2020 18:01

1.5 million wow, shows how popular they are.

Alsohuman · 28/04/2020 18:04

Certainly does. And instagram is quite a young demographic too.

Wolfgirrl · 28/04/2020 18:10

You do realise because somebody has clicked on something, it doesnt mean they are a massive fan? For most it is mild intrigue.

That's why there are so many hits on YouTube videos of natural disasters etc. Doesnt mean everyone watching is thinking YAY I LOVE THIS!

Wolfgirrl · 28/04/2020 18:53

So?

Clavinova · 28/04/2020 19:06

Doesn't mean everyone watching is thinking YAY I LOVE THIS!

A 'like' probably does mean, 'YAY I LOVE THIS!' when there's a photo of a cute 2 year old on his birthday.

blettedmedlar · 28/04/2020 19:07

Mammamia you are sadly deluded if you think that they only have part time security. I was at uni in the 80s with a very minor royal who had round-the-clock armed security, and bullet proof glass in his student house.

Mamamia456 · 28/04/2020 19:27

blette medlar - That may have been the case in the 80s but in 2011 the minor royals had their security reduced to official Royal engagements only. So not deluded at all.

Wolfgirrl · 28/04/2020 19:30

@Clavinova or just 'cute kid'. Click. Move on.

Doesnt mean they support the royals, doesnt mean they approve of anything they do.

Pelleas · 28/04/2020 19:30

Okay, 1.5 million likes. Let's say for the sake of argument each one of those 'likes' does mean 'YAY I love this'.

The population of the UK is 66.5 million. Almost certainly not all of those 'likes' will have come from people within the UK, whose taxes are funding the young prince. Even if they did, that leaves 65 million people who are apparently indifferent. So if you are judging by 'likes' they are not doing very well at all.

OP posts:
Mamamia456 · 28/04/2020 19:38

Pelleas - Not at all, loads of people in the UK who like the royals don't have Instagram.

Wolfgirrl · 28/04/2020 19:38

Assuming all those likes came from the UK(which obviously isnt the case), that's slightly over 2% of the population. There are 24.5 million insta users in the UK so that works out to what, 1 in 16 British accounts liking it?

Alsohuman · 28/04/2020 19:38

The error in that argument, of course, is that 65 million Britons don’t use Instagram. There are statistically evidenced approval rates for the monarchy.

www.statista.com/statistics/863893/support-for-the-monarchy-in-britain-by-age/

More than half in the youngest age group, rising to over three quarters in the oldest.
