Sorry for my your majesty mistake. I even googled it and thought I was right that it was only the monarch!

Samcro · 06/05/2020 07:57

so its a Dower house and investiture. think i need to sleep moreBlush

Cerseirys · 06/05/2020 08:19

Every now and then the Express runs a story on the "shocking truth" about the title Kate may inherit, like Diana was the first PoW! Camilla is entitled to use it but I think plumping for Duchess of Cornwall was part of the PR push when she got engaged to Charles. I'd be very surprised if she wasn't known as HM The Queen once he finally inherits. By then it'll be a good 25-30 years since Diana died so I doubt any objection will be raised.

Samcro · 06/05/2020 08:28

i think it would be daft for her not to be queen. but I imagine the Diana fans will not be happy. but surely a lot of them will be very old by then.
its not like Diana ever had that title.
I don't think many younger people are that bothered. the ones I know (20's) just see them all as over privileged and pointless.
I can only imagine that has got worse during these times.(I have not had a proper chat with ds due to lockdown so could be wrong)

Cerseirys · 06/05/2020 08:33

If the Queen lives as long as her mother did then Charles will be in his 80s by the time he inherits! You do have to wonder about a system that just keeps people waiting like that. He's well beyond retirement age but still waiting to do the job he was born to! The Dutch model of abdication seems a better one, especially as people are living much longer these days.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/05/2020 09:11

People talk about the wait for Charles to be king as though he has done nothing else. He may be born to be king, but his lifelong "career" has been as Prince of Wales. Being king is just the final promotion, and he only gets it on the death of his mother. I don't think it's a job anyone wants.

Roussette · 06/05/2020 09:15

Cerseirys I agree. The Spanish RF did it right. King Juan Carlos stood aside for the popular King Felipe (his son) and Queen Letizia in 2014. He is now only 82 .

Not many will agree but I think the Queen should've done this. If she had in her eighties, and PC had taken over I think we would've had a very different streamlined RF.

I read an article somewhere that Smartworks love Meghan. Nice to see the positive reports about her on here from different organisations and I am highly amused at the ghastly Andrew Morton off in LA poking about for dirt and not finding it.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 06/05/2020 09:24

I think the queen views abdication as a dirty word. The abdication crisis with Edward VIII was a potentially constitutional mare & arguably pushed her father into a role he didn’t want. Strange that she would have ended up as queen anyway as Edward & Wallis didn’t have dcs.

Roussette · 06/05/2020 09:34

I find it strange. Obviously she isn't doing what she used to be doing, no overseas travel, etc but it's perplexing why she wouldn't.

From what I know it has revitalised the RF in Spain, they are a very hands on couple and the popularity of the RF over there soared when they took over..

Mind you, his dad ex King Juan Carlos was not popular and there was some financial scandals.

If it were a family company where your son worked but you stubbornly refuse to let go of the reins, it would be very weird.

Samcro · 06/05/2020 09:36

it has always seemed a bit unfair on PC to wait so long to be King. I don't think anyone would mind the queen retiring.i did think that when she did her address that it was time.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/05/2020 09:51

The Queen will never retire or abdicate. It isn't a job to her, it is her calling. She'll share the work more and more but the role is hers till her last breath.

Roussette · 06/05/2020 09:55

Yes I know... it's just she could have done in the past but appreciate it will never happen.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/05/2020 10:26

I'm not sure I agree that HMQ should have handed over the crown. As long as she involves PC in the actual work so that he's prepared when the time comes, I think it's right that she upholds a centuries old tradition. Also she knows Charles, and though he may have many qualities, I wouldn't describe him as a tremendously robust character, especially in times of crisis.

The situation in Spain is very different, King Juan Carlos was appointed by Franco to be his successor. And it didn't work out at all as he had planned.

Cerseirys · 06/05/2020 10:43

I think Juan Carlos only stood down because of the scandals. But in the Netherlands there's been a tradition of abdication since Queen Wilhelmina. It seems to work well - ex-Queen Beatrix still carries out duties but leaves the heavy lifting, so to speak, to Willem-Alexander. I expect he'll do the same once he gets to old age.

Say what you like about the Mail, they do still have a handful of competent journalists, despite the awful online content writers and editorial line. The Express is just budgie cage liner.

ArriettyJones · 06/05/2020 11:09

I think Juan Carlos only stood down because of the scandals.

Speaking of which, his philandering and shady deals weren’t the only clouds over his head.

He was implicated in the fatal shooting of his brother, Alfonso, when they were both teens. That’s a creepy read, for anyone who likes royal twaddle but has never read it.

maybe PC is happy not being King. it might be he gets more "freedom" being POW.

Roussette · 06/05/2020 12:48

I'm on Twitter and this has just popped up. Archie is adorable and very cuddly and squishy. Lovely video.
now trying to work out how anyone can criticise it. Nope, nothing to criticise

Fans have also contributed to a global tree planting fund, with enough money raised to plant over 115,000 trees currently (this isnt the only [H&M fans] tree planting fundraiser). mobile.twitter.com/hashtag/sussexgreatforest?lang=en

This really isn't a criticism, it's just something that crossed my mind.
Before I read this, I'd considered offering a prize to anyone who could comment on the video or (deserving of a bigger prize) quoting a newspaper article that didn't use the words "cute" or "adorable". A thesaurus as a prize maybe?

Babies are generally sweet and appealing (especially one's own). They can inspire feelings of affection and be attractive.
I read somewhere that the character of ET was designed to look a bit like a foetus, because we're programmed to feel warm and protective towards that image.

But no other descriptions.

Always: "cute" and "adorable".

And, to me, not "adorable" literally.

I adore my children.
I don't adore anybody else.

To be fair, Rousette, you stuck in "squishy" and managed to avoid "cute".

I fully expect to be "slammed" or "blasted" for this (a la the tabloids).

In the spirit of the thread, he looks fine. Has some teeth and had obviously been introduced to books.

Roussette · 06/05/2020 13:45

LaM I had huge babies so love squishy ones. We've got a new baby of about 9 months now in our family , and she really is adorable, there is no other word! Grin
