Royals and American media coverage

Saw this cover posted on Twitter and noted that it seems the tabloids do indeed exist in the US (amazing, huh?). This is pretty much what you'd expect from the source, and I think it's pretty deplorable, but I am interested to see how the American media in general cover the presence of the former royals who've now arrived to make their home there. Of course we can discuss their coverage of other Royals too and related topics. All welcome.

Link to cover story - please note I'm not endorsing it, I'm just sharing it:

The documentary MM narrated had already been completed and narrated by an actual A list (academy award winning) actor, who also reportedly, donated the narration fee (the actor was paid).

Ouch. Is it known who that was?

SenecaFallsRedux · 06/04/2020 23:39

By the way I for one don’t believe that every criticism of H & M has racist undertones or is racist . I don’t know anyone in real life who believes that.

I agree.

MissEliza · 06/04/2020 23:44

Were Diana and Kate constantly criticised for holding their bump when pregnant? They didn't do that so of course they weren't!

chrisseldah1 · 06/04/2020 23:49

@MissEliza oh okay good to know.

RosesandIris · 06/04/2020 23:56

were.

I’ve said it before but I think H & M are true case of folie a deux. Individually they each had a mixture of attractive and unattractive traits. Once they met, some alchemy happened that created something really quite negative and ruthless.

I agree with this. Sometimes people bring out the worst in each other. I think that’s the case here.

5LeafPenguin · 06/04/2020 23:56

Sorry breaking phone posted too soon

Dandy Penguin posted earlier that Harry likes helping people.

I think that's true. I particularly hope that Invictus doesn't lose focus or profile because of this.

Kate holding or touching her bump (which is fine by the way, why should a pregnant woman not cradle her growing child?)

Oh wow @SenecaFallsRedux you produced three photos where Kate touched her bump - out of three pregnancies. Well done you 👏👏👏.

ArriettyJones · 07/04/2020 00:05

I can’t face another bump cradling debate. It was a crazy basis for criticism, but I think that there were two lunatic “camps” by that point (plus the sane majority in the middle, that is).

Winterlife · 07/04/2020 00:11

The makers of the documentary stated she donated her fee to the elephant charity and that’s great, because it is indeed a great cause.

Where has Disney stated that?

SenecaFallsRedux · 07/04/2020 00:12

There are more MissElliza. Just google.

Winterlife · 07/04/2020 00:14

Diana was pregnant before the advent of social media. I don't recall tabloids criticizing MM for cradling her belly. I have read comments from the public doing so, and I agree, it's silly.

SenecaFallsRedux · 07/04/2020 00:17

I agree that the bump cradling debate is silly. Plus any criticism of a pregnant women touching or cradling her bump is misogynistic, in my opinion, no matter who it is.

SenecaFallsRedux · 07/04/2020 00:20

I don't recall tabloids criticizing MM for cradling her belly.

There were some on MN, however.

Winterlife · 07/04/2020 00:23

This thread is about media, not what random MN'rs have posted in the past.

SenecaFallsRedux · 07/04/2020 00:25

Actually a quick google does turn up some tabloid reporting on the bump cradling, and it's not flattering to Meghan. Quelle surprise.

Winterlife · 07/04/2020 00:28

Please provide links.

lizzie1970a · 07/04/2020 00:32

Kate's touching of her bump was far more natural though, almost absent minded (perhaps she's a better actress).

Also, she was never seen doing it when in full focus up on a stage while working like these shots of M.

Also, she didn't do the bizarre 'look-at-me' coat flicking either.

Everything about M is contrived and to attract attention to her, even when the focus should not be on her. That pose is not natural.

Laughable, "misogynistic" my arse. The pictures I posted show exactly what a phoney M is - she's all about the pose.

SenecaFallsRedux · 07/04/2020 00:38

Of course, it's misogyny. It's attempted policing of what women do or don't do with their bodies.

lizzie1970a · 07/04/2020 00:38

Not flattering to M because it looks (and clearly is) contrived and unnatural - far more so than Kate (not that I'm a fan of her, I'm not), so not sure why you're so surprised.

The pose is an IG pose. M does things like this a lot and it is clear when she's not being natural (doe eyes, biting her lips, girly giggle behind her hands like a teenager). She's an actress and it shows as she's not a good actress - I don't think she herself knows when she's not acting.

The problem with it isn't the pose itself, it's what it says about her - that you're never quite sure what you're getting is sincere as so much is fake and put on.

lizzie1970a · 07/04/2020 00:41

No. It's pointing out what a phoney she is. Pure and simple. How can I police her? She doesn't even know who I am so you're talking rubbish.

I don't like phoneys and she is one and her body language time and again shows it. She's not a genuine person. She's picked up mannerisms here and there that she thinks are cute and will endear her to people but so many saw through it for what it is. She's a ruthless conniver out to get what she can, and she was from the start in my opinion.

lizzie1970a · 07/04/2020 00:43

She was working on that stage. It was not about her but by posing like that she made it more about her. Totally unprofessional. Such a needy person.

chrisseldah1 · 07/04/2020 00:54

@Winterlife elephant without borders have information about this . It’s there on their Instagram page.

lizzie1970a · 07/04/2020 01:03

So by your logic Seneca what's in the below link is perfectly acceptable and should not induce any comment whatsoever?

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8185541/Coronavirus-Influencers-slammed-turning-medical-masks-bikinis.html

People are too quick to use the word misogyny nowadays when it's criticism pure and simple. You bandy that word about and make your accusations of racism, that the posters on here are racist for any criticism of M, but you don't know what you're talking about. No doubt if you do reply you'll say you've never accused anyone of racism. You've tried that before. However, while you won't come out and say it directly you've implied it often enough without any substance to it. Same with the accusations of misogyny.
