Maybe that blind is the reason why the royals are moving to separate locations. Not entirely tongue in cheek....

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 26/03/2020 09:23

Also a hereditary monarchy is just that. We don’t get to say no to Harry in the event of a tragedy. After Archie it’s Andrew.., Makes a republic quite appealing and I’m usually a monarchist!

derxa · 26/03/2020 09:25

I mostly lurk but my feelings towards HAM come in waves of rage and then complete indifference. Today is a rage day. All the guff they post portraying themselves as caring saints. No matter what you think of Thomas Markle he is still an elderly at risk person. Meghan has completely disposed of him. Harry's DF has coronavirus and his GPs are old and frail. Their shenanigans haven't helped. As for Meghan cuddling children and pawing at Anthony Joshua during a period of social distancing... words fail me. How anyone can defend them I don't know. At times like these we need solid dull people not virtue signallers. And breathe...

7Penguins · 26/03/2020 09:31

I’m a monarchist too, but HAM publicly renounced service to Queen and country.

5LeafPenguin · 26/03/2020 09:47

Hello penguins. Hope you are keeping well. Just delurking to say I agree with 7Penguins, they didn't just step away they publicly renounced the RF as dysfunctional by saying they were unsafe for Archie. The set up of their new way was based on a contrast to the old way which they cast as wrong...they could never step back into a top job without this being addressed and resolved...and how could it be?

Did they actually say the kept Archie in Canada to protect him from CV? I can't remember. It seems an important decision point if they did.

BarleylemonPenguin · 26/03/2020 09:51

derxa That's very well put. My feelings toward monarchy (and, by extension, HaM) also come in waves. I am a reluctant monarchist but with several caveats 1) this is a very recent position for me and is therefore based on their current behaviour and is in no way entrenched (so, not blind acceptance) 2) my position is based on utility - as long as they can improve my/our society, they can stay. They sail very close to the wind with this but mostly, I can see how they improve UK in eyes of the world (and thus, trade, interest in UK, etc.). As long as taxpayers feel that they are worth it....(we know that they are sensitive to this because, for the most part, they behave in ways that highlight this to us. Not sure what happens when someone decides to ignore this raison d'être).

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 26/03/2020 10:02

You have all put it far more eloquently than me.

Hope everyone is ok & recovering well.

CallmeAngelina · 26/03/2020 10:10

Re: adapting that WHO advice, whilst they were at it, they could have corrected the mis-spelling of "practice."

BelleharePenguin09 · 26/03/2020 10:18

Practice...
Both noun and verb take a c in American English. Perhaps that accounts for the usage?

BelleharePenguin09 · 26/03/2020 10:19

Agree @derxa

Dandy -Perhaps people need to feel uncomfortable? Am sorry to sound combatative but sticking to facts:
It’s not about testing medics with no symptoms. This isn’t my argument. There are swathes of doctors and nurses out there with mild to
moderate symptoms of something, having to self isolate. Those left in work are really, really struggling. Then they are sent back in without any idea if they are immune or not.
So it’s not just about PPE. This is an equally important issue and I am glad you recognise this, those that have said it. Testing is crucial if you want anybody left in the NHS to offer a proper service.
I wish PC a speedy recovery - of course I do. But please understand how this debate got started and the premise behind it.

Agreed.

RosesandIris · 26/03/2020 10:25

derxa

I completely agree with your post. That’s exactly how I feel. Every time I breathe a sigh of relief that they seem to be pissing off finally, there is another IG post or ‘friends’ relaying Ms secret thoughts.
I absolutely loathe M now and have lost all respect for Harry.

CallmeAngelina · 26/03/2020 10:33

Yeah, I know - a number of their previous posts have clearly been written by her, owing to the Americanisms in them - "Happy Holidays" for Christmas, for one.

DandyPenguin · 26/03/2020 10:56

@Brainfoglightson I don’t think you’re being combative, I think you’re being condescending. I assure you I do understand how “this debate got started and the premise behind it”. Hmm I never said they shouldn’t be tested even if they don’t have symptoms.

I’m aware through my own family and friends of what life is like for frontline HCPs. I am very grateful and worried for them - do I need to explicitly say that here? I felt uncomfortable at your and someone else’s lack of acknowledgment in your comments of patients with possible CV being tested. It’s not just PC versus medics when it comes to unfairness about who is tested. It’s arguably unfair to many people who have been advised they have it and are suffering, including in hospital, but don’t know for sure. Them being tested would also help HCPs. I have compassion for these patients and medics. I hope that’s OK with you.

TimeLady · 26/03/2020 11:10

From an article by a doctor in The Spectator today

We hear much about the lessons from Asia being to ‘increase testing’ but this is more complicated than simply ordering more tests. False-negative results are an issue with the Covid tests: it’s estimated that up to a quarter of those with the virus will be told they don’t have it. So until we have a better test, the advice must stay the same — if you have symptoms, you have to self-isolate.

It's an interesting read.

WinnieTheW0rm · 26/03/2020 11:17

Most of the blind is easy to spot (and I really hope it's just invented bollocks, because it's right up there with the most tasteless)

But what's the name of the film? I wonder if it's on Netflix

TheMustressMhor · 26/03/2020 11:26

Well. here you all are, just as I left you when I went on holiday a fortnight ago.

WinnieTheW0rm · 26/03/2020 11:27

Thanks!

DandyPenguin · 26/03/2020 11:27

Good article @TimeLady Yes people on the covid thread I’m on have been dating for days that the testing is only 75% reliable apparently. That is worrying.

Hopefully the antibodies test will come out shortly.

I’m now off to look at that blind.

TheMustressMhor · 26/03/2020 11:27

I started a blog to keep myself busy, too. My sister cannot make head nor tail of it. She needs to get out more IMO.

TheMustressMhor · 26/03/2020 11:29

Mr. Mhor and I are self-isolating for twelve weeks.

Two of our four DC have Covid 19 now, as does my sister.

They are all improving but my sister was very unwell for a while.

SussexRoyalPenguin · 26/03/2020 11:42

Sorry to hear about your DCs Mhor - what have their symptoms been?

SussexRoyalPenguin · 26/03/2020 11:46

And your sister, sorry, didn’t include her.

TheMustressMhor · 26/03/2020 11:50

Hi Sussex!

One started with a very sore throat, which progressed to a cough and temperature. He was staying at my sister's house. She is 72 and has recently had chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

She started with a very bad headache, and that progressed to a high temperature and dry cough. I have never heard a cough like that in my life, by the way.

So that was DS and DSis, holed up together, with sister telling my DS he wasn't to go downstairs.

Gradually she felt so grim (and he was improving) that she changed her mind. I daresay if Covid 19 doesn't kill her, DS's cooking might,

DD lives elsewhere in London and started with a fever three days ago. Plus a very sore throat.

I expect she will soon get the cough.
