dandy and Camilla Long - both saying the same basically, with 'rights' come responsibilities.

I also agree that "hitting the ground running" meant being a new broom, in M's eyes, and we all hate the new broom at work dont we? Much better to sidle in, put up and shut up until you've worked out how the land lies and then start with gentle, painless changes before you start the tricky ones.

But that wouldn't suit M's modus operandi, which has always been move in and move on - probably because that's how it works in her world, has seemed to work for her before, and she doesn't know any different.

Yes nicking our insights and getting paid for it is precisely what Camilla Long gains from it! If she’s lurking or even posting, I highly doubt it’s because she wants to be a penguin.

BarleylemonPenguin · 23/03/2020 08:31

Ooh, lots of responses to think about. Great! Have to try and do something productive first , though Gin

SleuthPenguin I wonder who would have wanted to rattle the bars from within though

It may have been Meghan herself. When I say "from within The Firm", that suggests that the seed grew from within that particular waddle. We can only speculate but, from current evidence, I don't see a seasoned (bad) actress (she knows that she can't act) being bothered by bad press reviews. There is no evidence that the public were negative from the orf - quite the contrary. We are not stupid. If someone can benefit our society, we'll take it (up to a point, obviously, when costs start to outweigh benefits. Costs are not only financial. They may be emotional, image-based, etc.).

DandyPenguin · 23/03/2020 08:47

Barley are you Camilla Long? 🤔

My theory is different from most and very straightforward. I don’t think there’s any sleuthing required tbh.

DandyPenguin · 23/03/2020 08:49

That was a joke btw Barley about you being CL.

Hyrana · 23/03/2020 09:42

I've been a lurker and non poster since the start. I think penguins are cute but they stink. My absolute fav is the Puffin. I am stuck in Asia right now so cannot show you all my two Puffins that I got from a charity shop and the brown glazed penguin that was covered in tar from a smokers house. He is still brown but he smells great after he was cleaned.

BelleharePenguin09 · 23/03/2020 10:06

Dennis Thatched

Oh brilliant. That has made me giggle inanely.

7Penguins · 23/03/2020 10:07

Morning! I chuckled at the discussion about quotes.

The problem with quotes on the internet is that they are often not true. - Abraham Lincoln

BelleharePenguin09 · 23/03/2020 10:09

Dennis Thatcher said that!!!

BelleharePenguin09 · 23/03/2020 10:09

Cool beans!

SussexRoyalPenguin · 23/03/2020 10:22

Hello @Hyrana and welcome. Whereabouts are you and what is the situation like?

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 23/03/2020 10:32

Anyone remember the Dear Bill letters in Private Eye? So funny! we have quite a few books of them, must dig them out.

ajandjjmum · 23/03/2020 10:33

Didn't know Abraham Lincoln was still around!

FannyCann · 23/03/2020 11:14

Yes, and the Heir of Sorrows and Born to be Queen.

Time for a new column.

5LeafPenguin · 23/03/2020 11:23

I am officially 🐧. Thank you for the official name Dandy.

The 'Meghan as a new broom' theory is interesting, but the thing with being a new broom is that the underlying assumption is that you know the sector/ industry/ market ( choose your metaphor) better than the people you are 'new brooming'.

With the best will in the world ( and I am not a Meghan-hater) there is no way someone brought up in the US, no matter how smart they are can pick up on what the institution of royalty means in the UK ( or anywhere else) in a year if they are busy reframing it in their head to make it more like what they think it should be It would be hard enough if you were just trying to do the job by listening and learning.

I thought the WaK visit was an good example of the RF role in society...they went to represent society but the focus was on the people they visited. I feel sad that HaM couldn't find it in themselves to do that but the current crisis has made me agree with the view that it wouldn't be possible as a half and half role.

BarleylemonPenguin · 23/03/2020 11:37

Dandy - hope you are feeling better. No, I am not Camilla Long (but I could be for the right price Grin). Her article is definitely not as dissimilar to yours as you'd probably like it to be...What is your theory on 'what went wrong'? I just can't get worked up about many of the reasons that we've heard about. Was she really shocked by Princess Michael of Kent or Prince Philip? Was she really surprised that they engaged in elitist activities and did this within their own circle? Was she genuinely perturbed by the hierarchy or the strict focus on 'protocol'? They all have form on this.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 23/03/2020 12:01

Thing is Meghan came from an industry that also has a hierarchy in which she definitely was a bit player. She wasn’t A list or even D list! So excuse me I don’t believe for a minute she didn’t get how protocols or hierarchy works. I would imagine that Hollywood is every bit as elitist in their own way as the royals.

Where are the daily yoga poses when the Nation needs them???

KayakingOnDown · 23/03/2020 17:41

They're being very precious about showing pics of Archie. I wonder why.

RosesandIris · 23/03/2020 18:01

They want to sell them to the highest bidder for his first birthday.

7Penguins · 23/03/2020 18:02

MM’s pet journo sang her praises today, I saw the headline towards the bottom of the DM online.

Didn’t click, headline was enough - apparently she was nicknamed ‘Meghan gets shit done’ on the set of Suits because she arranged the leftover food from the set to be sent to a homeless charity.

Commendable, if a little baffling why it’s shared years after the fact, during the C turmoil. No wonder people aren’t clicking on it judging how far down the homepage it is.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 23/03/2020 19:15

Sylvie Krin...

I need to visit DM sidebar of shame later.

Archie pics = mega $$$$

RosesandIris · 23/03/2020 19:20

7 Penguins I heard that ages ago, it isn't new.

7Penguins · 23/03/2020 19:40

No doubt, but it's being dusted off and paraded again Grin

Winterlife · 23/03/2020 20:03

MM couldn’t have donated catered food to homeless shelters, as it’s illegal to donate leftovers in Toronto. The only way she could’ve done this is by handing the food out directly to homeless people on the streets.
