What happens when the queen dies?

I know that. Harley's becomes king etc but what happens to the others? Will they be left money/homes/? Do they inherit anything? Is the queen allowed to leave them royal 'stuff'?

Might be a bit random but I just thought of it Grin

I'm not really clear on your feelings about the queens death gimme, could you state them a few more times? Grin

GimmeeMoore · 15/01/2017 12:00

Haha,I fear I'm too understated bout this

BillSykesDog · 15/01/2017 12:00

Ungoogle I hope she thinks of her people and checks the weather forecast is good for the next two weeks before she croaks. Ideally early summer when we need an extra bank hol.

BillSykesDog · 15/01/2017 12:02

Gimmee I think the clue there is 'Irish'. Not a people known for their love of the royal family.

Although my MIL was in a Catholic area in Antrim when Charles and Di got married and apparently most of the houses there had their curtains shut and the children booted outside on the day so their mother's could watch in secret. Grin

GimmeeMoore · 15/01/2017 12:04

Was in an Irish bar in Liverpool when qm died.
TBH no one was bothered in or out of bar

OneWithTheForce · 15/01/2017 12:08

I would just like to say that I am an Irish catholic living in Ireland raised by a huge family of republicans and I have a secret love for the royal family. I can't say it IRL so I indulge my forbidden love on MN threads Grin

bibbitybobbityyhat · 15/01/2017 12:18

I could have sworn the QM's death was announced in the late afternoon on a Sunday.

Gonna have to google now!

sashh · 15/01/2017 12:24

I expect that had Edward VIII staye King he would have ended up as anti-NazI as everyone else in Britain.

I doubt it, they were treated as royalty when visiting Nazi Germany. Hitler possibly wanted to put him back on the throne as a puppet and I can see him going for it.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 15/01/2017 12:26

It was a Saturday.

BillSykesDog · 15/01/2017 12:32

One my MIL was the same. Rabid Irish republican too, but couldn't resist nice frocks and horses in sparkly coats. Grin

Qm death announced on a Saturday.dint recall the year, largely cause I don't care

diddl · 15/01/2017 12:45

"Yes, George will go to school in London but William will no longer have another job, so he will do more engagements, being a patron of stuff etc."

Yes.

What I meant was it might not be that he has decided or been told to do more engagements, just that the move means that this is what will happen.

OublietteBravo · 15/01/2017 12:49

It was the year after 9/11 - so 2002. (I remember because I was near ground zero when the news broke).

eddiemairswife · 15/01/2017 13:37

Yes, it was the Queen's Golden Jubilee year when the Queen Mother died, not that long after Princess Margaret. I think Princess Margaret's funeral was the last time the QM was seen in public.

TSSDNCOP · 15/01/2017 13:50

The Queens funeral plan London Bridge will be enacted.

The funeral itself will be a masterclass in how to deliver an event that will be watched globally with dignity.

Whether people chose to care is up to them, but there will be many many millions of people globally who have an interest.

NotDavidTennant · 15/01/2017 13:58

I am nonplussed about Gimmee's use of the word 'nonplussed'.

A sentence that works for both sides of the debate. Wink

GimmeeMoore · 15/01/2017 14:00

Watched with dignity?and how would You know,or indeed measure such dignity?
Would there be an indignity corner for those incapable of watching with dignity?
What a syrupy cringeworthy phrase.that makes no sense.other than convey sycophancy

CauliflowerFluffy · 15/01/2017 14:05

Manumission is ambivalent the word you're thinking of? I thought nonplussed meant not bothered too Blush

Manumission · 15/01/2017 14:08

I'm not sure now what word I was grasping for. I fell asleep last night thinking about it but it's gone now.

There are obviously more than I thought though.

GimmeeMoore · 15/01/2017 14:12

I not sure why you're doing the embarrassed faceBlush?nonplussed does mean not bothered
I won't change because my use of it over an opinion on mn.its an appropriate usage

OneWithTheForce · 15/01/2017 14:13

How do you watch something with dignity? Confused you can watch respectfully but with dignity?

UnGoogleable · 15/01/2017 14:19

Ungoogle I hope she thinks of her people and checks the weather forecast is good for the next two weeks before she croaks. Ideally early summer when we need an extra bank hol

Oh god yeah, imagine how annoying it would be if she carks it in May?

CauliflowerFluffy · 15/01/2017 14:20

Jeez Gimmee, calm down. I'm embarrassed because in this country, it obviously has a different meaning than the one I thought. I have probably had people going Confused when I've used it. It wasn't a criticism of you.

UnGoogleable · 15/01/2017 14:22

Imagine what it must feel like for William, to go through intense training as a helicopter pilot, become evidently good at it, enjoy it so much you carry on doing it and presumably getting a lot of rewards from rescuing people... to just... stopping to spend the rest of your life shaking hands with people and cutting ribbons.

I could almost feel sorry for him. I bet he looks at Harry with his naked pool parties in Vegas with extreme envy.
