The royal family

Oh dear, why do they have to be so old-fashioned?

Looking at the pictures of Princess Charlotte's Christening - the replica christening gown I have no problem with, but using the same pram that the Queen used for Charles and Anne, and William dressed up the same as his grandfather would have been at his sister's Christening? Why?

Rather sexist to be saying that he should be dressed like a boy , what is wrong with a boy wearing smocking FGS .Next you will be. Saying boys should only wear blue or green or brown .

Artandco · 05/07/2015 21:37

I have always dressed my boys very similar to how they dress George ( mine are a few years older). Actually I think they had the same outfit around 2 years but the blue version.
It's much more practical as if you notice he always wears dungarees or buttoned up shorts, the reason being no nappy on show. Hence why mine wore similar. I hate babies nappies showing when they are carried about.

SurlyCue · 05/07/2015 21:37

better than the girly blouse they've put him in.

Hmm

Perhaps theyre sticking two fingers up to idiots that subscribe to the idea of "girls" clothing and "boys" clothing and use words like girly whilst sneering.

Quietattheback · 05/07/2015 21:48

I agree with littlebearpad, it's not the styling that's an issue more the 'oh look, there's a William clone' thing they are going for with the matching outfits.

Once is cute maybe. But every time there's a big event? Bit weird.

Scissor · 05/07/2015 21:53

My 14 year old wore shorts all year round until year 7 and I bought a coach built Silver Cross brand new 16 years ago. My babies slept on proper mattresses in them, the base props up a bit like an i-pad stand so when they're older they can have a fab view, the toddler sat on a seat over the main part so you could talk to the pair of them and the whole pram is lovely and high so you can have a proper chat, huge basket under for shopping. Was completely wonderful... and you can polish it.
(Had a maclaren umbrella and buggy board for when going anywhere by car)

I don't understand the sneering, it's a traditional pram that is such fun to push and long socks with shorts...English women's football team looked rather good I thought.

Preminstreltension · 05/07/2015 21:55

Ooh yes fujimoto. We were so struck by how beautifully the little boys were dressed when we were in Seville a couple of years ago. Perfectly practical but also charming. No dinosaur t shirts or ugly brown clumpy shoes which seem to be required in the UK to make it clear to the outside world that your two year old is not effeminate Hmm

meglet · 05/07/2015 22:00

empress yy, the smarter and more royal they make him look for official events the harder it must be to recognise him in his 'civvies'.

TheCraicDealer · 05/07/2015 22:06

YY Meglet. I remember reading somewhere Kate had bought a bugaboo before his birth, so it's hardly like the kids are being trotted around in that carriage one all the time. It's an heirloom and they probably thought it suited the theme better than a Stoke or iCandy or whatever they use to take them down the park. And then before they went to Oz apparently she did a massive shop in Baby Gap for stuff, they clearly have a "uniform" for him for appearances. Sensible IMHO.

I wish I could just dump all this useless info to make room for other stuff.

AuntieStella · 05/07/2015 22:16

At least the perambulator appeared to have normal baby sheets in it - I was half expecting old hairy tartan dog blankets!

bigoldbird · 05/07/2015 22:20

I will admit to being very old fashioned and traditional. I thought they all looked lovely. I had a huge silver cross pram when my two were little (got it from the Oxfam shop for £30). It was very practical for someone who couldn't drive and I could get nearly a weeks shopping in the tray underneath. I love children to look like children, and not miniature adults. I am appalled by the way some people dress their little girls in particular.

It was their day, they presumably did it the way they wanted to.

I hope they all had a lovely time and are able to ignore people that don't approve.

pictish · 05/07/2015 22:22

I severely doubt that.

SurlyCue · 05/07/2015 22:24

So of course ive only spent the last half hour browsing coach built prams on ebay Grin my baby is 6

Sixweekstowait · 05/07/2015 22:44

What I really want to know is why on earth was water from the River Jordan flown over specially? Weird

Shesparkles · 05/07/2015 22:56

I have a Silver Cross coach built pram put away safely in my loft, to be re-used if and when the time comes that I have grandchildren. They are the best prams ever for walking with, the baby has plenty of room to lie out flat on a thick matress and the suspension is fantastic. Those of you who are criticising the pram have clearly never pushed one!

AnyoneForTennis · 06/07/2015 00:10

So the pram style is fine for women to Prance around with with those stupid 'reborn' dolls in Pretending they have a real baby

But not ok for a real,er,baby!!?

barefootcook · 06/07/2015 01:50

Is the nanny really dressed up in a 1950s uniform? How can I see a picture of her.

HarrietVane99 · 06/07/2015 02:02

Barefoot, just Google for images of Norland Nannies.

EdithWeston · 06/07/2015 04:22

This is the BBC photo with the uniformed Norland Nanny in it.

Oh dear, why do they have to be so old-fashioned?
AuntieStella · 06/07/2015 05:48

"What I really want to know is why on earth was water from the River Jordan flown over specially? Weird"

Using water from the Jordan is pretty widespread, as it's the river in which John baptised Jesus.

AuntieStella · 06/07/2015 05:50

Some even go to the Jordan itself for baptism

AuntieStella · 06/07/2015 06:15

And the BBC had a who,e background piece on the river Jordan the pilgrims who go there, and the way in which water is sold.

It looks as if the water used for this christening may have been sent over by the Jordanian Royal Family.

And is presumably the prepared/filtered version. The article said that the much if the actual river is filthy, and you go for full immersive baptism kind of at your own risk.

TheQueenOfSheba · 06/07/2015 06:32

I love the way the royals dress their children and the big old-fashioned pram. That is how I dressed my children when they were little. I never had a big old-fashioned pram, but I would have loved one.

meditrina · 06/07/2015 07:11

I'm pretty sure my DM had one of these in the 1950s, and I've seen pictures of DMiL with one too. She told me how hard they'd had to save up to get the pram she really wanted.

derxa · 06/07/2015 07:23

I wonder why no-one has mentioned yet that the Archbishop was wearing his bloody old robes again

EdithWeston · 06/07/2015 08:24

He does go for that set an awful lot, doesn't he?
