We're not afraid of the fire works

My two 8 month old ginger boys are currently puzzled and frustrated, but definitely not scared!

I have locked the cat flap and put the litter tray down, as I wanted to keep them in over the next few nights of fireworks.

Despite a few loud bangs and whizzes, the boys are showing no fear but they are quite annoyed with me for keeping them in, taking it in turns to bash the cat flap and jump up at door handle!

I'm relieved they're not upset by the noise, and hope they don't trash the place before they can go out again. The looks they're giving me!

My ginger boy loves fireworks - he stands up on his hind legs at the window to watch them. He’s not bothered by the noise!

@MummyInTheNecropolis cute! My old boy wasn't scared either, but he also wasn't so annoyed at being kept in!

Girlcat has ensconced herself in an upstairs window to watch the firework, as per usual. It's always worse here on NYE, as they start at about 6pm and keep going until 2am with the occasional let up for just long enough to allow you to drift off to sleep when you're woken by enough bangs to rival Beirut on a busy day.

I still get the occasional twitch when a really loud one goes off near me, reminders of the London IRA bombings in the 80's when I was working in the Westminster area and commuting by train. I was very nearly "got" by a few...

Tobias has the right idea - he just sleeps through them all.

@Allergictoironing sorry you had those experiences. A friend had a close call once at that time.
Glad my kids and cats are chilled. The cats have given up being cross now and put themselves to bed.

They are so loud in my road right now that I can hear some of the chihuahuas next door crying and whimpering, and I heard my outer porch door shaking on it's hinges.

It hasn't really got to me for years now, but it is tonight they are getting louder and closer all the time. Cat's don't give a damn about them lol.

We had one go off about 4.30pm. Dogs were watching telly as usual all day didn’t bat an eyelid

I promised Kevin’s previous mum that I would stay in with him tonight. He’s ok. But next door are having fireworks so that’s upset him a bit.

autumn1610 · 05/11/2026 21:36

my one has been fast asleep in the sofa and then I have a foster who I was worried about how he would react but he’s also been fairly chilled.

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/11/2026 21:43

Toasty Boy Cat has been out the catflap, stayed out and only returned when he was hungry.
He hasn't read the manual about being a cat.

Roocatnow · 05/11/2026 22:02

@MrsMoastyToasty I think that's what my boys would do, but I'm scared that something might happen. It's been quiet here for ages so I will unlock the cat flap in a bit.

My cats aren’t bothered either. Neither were my dogs (sadly both gone from old age). If it was an odd firework my dog might be startled by the sudden noise but otherwise didn’t seem to mind at all. My cats have been snoozing as normal!

JaceLancs · 05/11/2026 22:50

Fergus does not know what a firework is and has not been outside yet so is blissfully unaware of the perils out there

My two cat girls couldn’t give a shiny shit. We had our own fireworks in our small garden. We shut them in upstairs, more so we could go in and out without worrying about the kitten, had a fab time and then let them out when we came in. No sign of fear or anxiety, not even in the cats!

Mine was watching them happily. My dad rolled his eyes and said “he’s such a dog cat” (our old red setter used to demand to go outside, lie in the garden and watch all the fireworks)
