Cats are knob heads who would step over your cold body to carry on their merry way, right?

My two children and I (both complex and disabled) have been quasi-adopted by a neighbour’s cat. Said cat is a timid little thing who lives in a household with an extremely volatile child with anger issues. CattyMcCatty seems to be triggered by loudness and random, sudden movements. He is let out at night and in the early hours, comes to sit on my front doorstep waiting to be let in. We have no pets. The cat sleeps here for a few hours on my sofa and naturally I have invested in an expensive heated throw for him. I even let him sit in MY chair, when I make a break for the loo. Obviously, I have merely been warming the chair for him. My children are forbidden from sitting in MY chair. I have permission from Catty’s owner to treat him to roast chicken breast and Dreamies. Yesterday, CattyMcCatty slept all day on my sofa, feasted on a healthy portion of lean chicken breast and had endless chin scratches from my children, who are as equally besotted as me. Last night, I went out to rescue him as his litter brother was fighting him and Catty was crying. Today, the little gobshite has just totally ghosted me on the street, ignored me calling him and has sauntered off with his tail erect and no eye contact. It was so funny but equally it reminded me of teenage crushes way back in the mists of time and the heart sink of being ghosted. Anyway, I’m not wrong, am I, cats are basically assholes?!

Cats are definitely dickheads. I've given up buying anything for mine after every toy and scratching post has been completely ignored in favour of ripping up my stair carpet. Little shit.

Don't have a cat now but when we did we bought a scratching post for him to get him to lay off the sofa arms. He walked around it, gave it a bit of a trial for a day or so to show willing and decided it didn't have the same satisfying scratching potential as the sofa. He ignored it from then on.

See, knob heads, the lot of them!

Cats have perfected belligerence.

Edited

To be fair, my carpets have seen better days after two decades as a foster carer and child minder. I’m not replacing them till DD2(10) moves out. CattyMcCatty has the most delightful house manners and doesn’t seem to scratch anywhere. He has his own basket (Fortnum & Mason) filled with his toys and catnip animals; he is clever enough to get out anything he wants.

I think that’s why I have very belatedly come to appreciate them so.

I have tested out the cold dead body theory by lying prone and unresponsive on the sofa. Marvin tried to drag me off ( I was lying on his blanky) and then sat on a chair glaring at me 😐

MyManinCaracas · 01/11/2026 17:49

Absolute knobheads but in his defence he probably has street cred and can’t have you calling his name like that. What are his other women going to think?

OMG, how very dare you sit on his BLANKY?

This.

That would be like trying to hug a teenager in front of their friends. Poor Catty must have been so embarrassed, shame on you OP.

Joking aside, I don't understand how cats can be so undog like. I feel I want to see inside the brain of ours to see what makes her such a little madam when the average dog would behave so differently to the same situation.

Ha! I found out today that Catty, now renamed as Six Dinner Sid, also visits my next-door neighbour. I was slightly crushed.

But you’re giving him roast chicken and Dreamies, which means you’re his favourite. 😻

thatsgotit · 01/11/2026 18:53

They wouldn't step over your cold body, they'd stop and eat it. But we love them anyway. 😹

The cat eats better than us. The kids and I eat reduced sticker food. I have bought him a bag of Christmas Dreamies. I haven’t even thought about buying anything for my children yet.

They eat your lips and earlobes first. I doubt they would even wait until your body's cold.

Yes this. Mine is definitely one of the ones you would read about in the metro having survived for a week by eating my corpse. I doubt he would wait until I'm cold tbh based on how often he makes me bleed when I'm alive.

A dog looks up to you.
A cat looks down on you.
A pig is the only animal that looks you in the eye as an equal.

Give me a dog any day. We have an adopted cat and it just bites or scratches when it sees fit.

Never had a dog do that. Told my Mum if it happens again, my walking boot will be firmly up its cheeky arse!
