Energetic but old and deaf cat wants to go out- solutions?

Our lovely old boy still loves going out and wandering round the garden which luckily is quite large and rural. He also clearly wants to go much further. Unfortunately his deafness means he doesn’t come back when called and there the risk of not hearing any traffic.
Currently, to alleviate the meowing to go out, we are taking it in turns to do escorted walks with him.
is there anything you can recommend so we can somehow let him go out and not have to invest hours to do this?
He has a basic bleeper collar which we can bleep to locate him up to 30 metres. However once he’s legged it into the dense undergrowth he doesn’t come back.
thank you!

Hi, could you cordon off a nice big area with a Catio construction? They're not cheap, but we had one and it's worked brilliantly.

Cripes what cats have you had in the past that come back when called? None of mine have ever done that!

to be honest if he’s used to going out and about and no main roads around I’d leave him to it.

cars can be seen as well as heard.

Lol he’s always appeared when called. Although two years ago he vey unusually disappeared for a week. Had wandered a couple of miles away - this is a cat who asks to be put to bed at 10 every night! I kid you not, he hassles us to put him into the utility room with some food and his bed.

I'd get a GPS tracker so you can pinpoint his location and go and get him if he's wandered off.

i vote catio and also accompanied walks.

my cats came to call. like dogs. i trained them as kittens that when i shouted a particular word theyd get fed. worked well 90% of the time.
