Will neutering help calm our six-month-old male cat?

Boy cat is being neutered on Tuesday and I can not wait. He’s just turned 6 months old and absolutely terrorises our 2year old female cat. She absolutely hates him. They will do exist but argue most evenings when he won’t leave her alone. He jumps on her back etc. I’m hoping it will calm him down!

please tell me it does. He’s constantly trying to escape the minute you open the door as well :(

he’s so much harder work than his sister 😂🥺

yes it will.

Definitely!

At 6 months old he is more than capable of mating so he's feeling all those hormones raging through him. He's trying to escape so he can get to any un-neutered females for miles around, and is probably trying to mount your girl despite her (presumably) having been spayed.

Will take a few weeks for the hormones to finish clearing out of his body, then he should settle down a fair bit.

Matter of interest, any reason why it's been left until he's 6 months old? Common wisdom these days seems to be 4 months, unless they are exceptionally undersized.

We were in the same situation - yes it did, but it has taken a few months for the hormones to calm down. They can now be in the same room without him jumping on her, so she doesn’t run away every time he appears. Fights still break out from time to time though, I’m hoping they’ll get used to each other over the winter, stuck inside.

In the same boat, she’s 22 weeks and just been spayed, older cat who initially really got on with her suddenly can’t stand her, she’s allowed to sleep on the same bed as him during the day and he’s fine with that but the minute she’s awake she’s a tiny terror and he growls non stop so after her nap we have to separate them until the next day. It’s bloody exhausting. I hope she calms down she was off her face yesterday from all the medication and bit me non stop which she doesn’t usually do. I hope she calms down soon but the vet said it may not happen.

I am in same position. Have a female 3 year old. We lost her brother in April. Got a Maine coon kitten who is now 6 months old. We got him neutered at 5 months, but he still puts her in a headlock every time she comes in and constantly annoys her. He will be an indoor cat. Vet said 6 weeks until hormones calm down .

Yes! Don’t worry, it will.

It will definitely calm him down, but it will take several weeks for his hormones to settle. Maybe use some Feliway around your home, and please give your female cat somewhere she can escape from his attentions. She's had enough.

I spoke to a behaviourist today, she told me to be extra vigilant when kitten has zoomies and wants to ambush to keep distracting her, also in our case to pick her up and put her at the bottom of the stairs before she can chase the older one down them. Also suggested Zylkene calming supplements for them both. We have feliway plugged in all over hasn’t done anything. Today has been better only a couple of hisses. We make sure that where he’s most comfortable she can’t get to him when he’s there so he has a space where he feels happy. I hope it all works out for you op it’s not fun as cute as they are!

He is basically a sex obsessed teenage boy currently. Losing his testicles will make him forget about sex, forget he wants to wander the world looking for sex and forget he wants to fight everyone else to prove he is the sexist. He also rapidly approaching the point at which he will want to pee/scent mark everywhere to show everyone how fabulously desirable he is - this is a hard habit to break once it starts.
