Will Siamese breeders accept homes where cats have access to the garden?

I'm looking to register with Siamese cat breeders to go on their waiting lists for a pair of kittens. When I last did this, 17 years ago, (RIP my lovely late Siamese puss, he lived a long and luxurious life.) registering with a breeder was then a case of phoning round, and I remember 2 or 3 breeders wouldn't consider us, as we allow our cats access to our large garden. 17 years later, registering with breeders means filling in webforms, and a prominent question is "Will your cat be free roaming, indoors only, or in a purpose built catio?" If I answer honestly, will I make it onto any waiting list? Are breeders now insistent on indoor only homes?

Just put on the forms that you will build a catio.

But I won't be building one.
I'm a bit disheartened at the idea of lying to a breeder.

When you say access to the garden, is it a cat-proofed garden? If so you aren't really lying, just that the catio fills the entire garden not just part of it.

Also, they won't just go on the basis of what you've filled in on line, they will want to talk to you as well and you can explain that your back garden is entirely cat proofed and nobody has ever got in or out of it (assuming that's the case)

They shouldn't be roaming..they die much quicker, statistically, and also they are ruinous to the bird and small mammal population.

Genuine question. Why do Siamese cats need the special cage. Only ask as I had neighbours who had a huge cage in the garden for one Siamese cat and the other was always roaming free. I always wondered why

The garden is not cat proofed.
I do not agree that cats shouldn't roam.

Depends on the cat. Some breeds in particular e.g. Ragdolls, have zero common sense and are much more likely to have accidents. Some cats are more aggressive with other cats so have to be kept away from others to prevent fighting all the time. Some have conditions like FIV which means that a) they can pass it on to others and b) makes them immunodeficient so any infections are much more serious. Some have some physical disability. Some are total wusses and will get beaten up by all the local cats, seagulls, crows, foxes etc.

I’m not sure why Siamese in particular should be kept inside. We had two that were outdoor cats. They lived to 10+
We lived on a quiet cul de sac away from main roads. I wouldn’t let a cat outdoors if I lived on a main road. They did attract a lot of attention from strangers though so I did worry about them getting catnapped!

If breeders insist on something you can’t and won’t provide perhaps it’s best to try a regular cat breed instead?

I have had oriental cats for the last 30 years, most recently I got two kittens six years ago. At that point it was still a case of ringing up and chatting to the breeder. Is every breeder you have contacted using webforms?

I found some breeders would ask directly about whether the cat would be free roaming, and some wouldn't ask.

My cats were free roaming until a few years ago but I was quite prepared to lie if necessary although I can't remember if I ever had to. The breeder is never going to find out. My cats do now have an enclosed garden because they kept getting hit by cars or attacked by dogs. But that isn't because they are oriental, it's because they're cats.
