My cat was attacked how to stop the cat doing it again?

We moved house last year with our 11 year old cat, we have moved 3 times now so she is used to it and we kept her in for a month before letting her out and had no problems till June this year.

I was out shopping and left her out for a few hours as it was a nice day and she was quite happy in the garden but when I came home I knew straight away something was wrong, my first thought was that oh my god she has been hit by a car she she was covered in blood and parts of fur missing and she couldn't stand up it was terrifying.
I took her straight to the vets and after examing her they said she had likely been in a fight with another cat due to the wounds on her neck, they kept her in for 2 nights and i was so worried about her, there are a few cats in our street so I knocked on a few doors too see if anyone had seen anything and a few of my neighbours told me they had seen her with a black and white cat fighting, i am not 100%sure if this is true as I obviously was not there but also my neighbours are lovely and have no reason to lie,

Anyway we brought her home and its only just now that she is starting to get back to her normal self after all this time
The thing is she will go out but not go far which Is fine but the cat that attacked her keeps coming in to our garden when she is there and as soon as my cat sees her they both make that horrible cat screeching noise and she runs in the house straight upstairs like she is terrified, it's horrible to see.
The thing is if she sees another cat she is absolutely fine!
I honestly don't know what to do to stop this cat coming in the garden? Any ideas it feels like she is to scared to use her own space which Is so sad, she is also neutered so I know the cat did not attack her for that.
Any ideas what I can do? I also don't want to keep her indoors as she is used to being a outdoor cat all her life

poor cat; sounds like a territorial thing with the other cat being there first and your cat is invading what it thinks is it space.

We've had the reverse where i live with the new Bengal cats deciding everywhere is there space now and battering the existing cats in the neighbourhood who’ve got along quite well for years.

People suggest water pistol the other cat ( no chance , happens too fast), I’ve sprinkled some of my cat’s litter in places around the garden- but not too much as it will smell. Unfortunately we have resorted to not letting our cat out as much and only when we are home and can hear/intervene, as the Bengal cats are just too prevalent and fighty. Its quite sad really.

Squirt the other cat with a hosepipe every time it comes anywhere near your house or garden. That should help keep it away.

However, the reality is that cats fight and unless you keep her indoors or secure your garden, there’s not really much you can do to stop it. My youngest is often coming home covered in various scabs - he’s neutered and will never start a fight but he will turn round and finish one.

You can’t stop it unless you keep her indoors.

Agree with other, hosepipe for the offending cat as soon as you hear it.

Unfortunately there's not a great deal more you can do than activity trying to ensure you make it afraid to come near your garden.

(I've got a sweet little ginger boy who is apparently a pacifist. There's a very aggressive tom who lives up the road who has attacked him many times, often in our garden - we've spend over £1k in vet bills over the years. It was only after the fuckwit owners finally neutered their cat that the fights stopped, but it was afraid of me even before then as I ran at it with a broom and/or hosepipe any time I saw it).

Has she got a cat flap to get in quickly . If not she needs one !

Make sure it’s a microchip operated flap so the offending cat can’t follow her in

You can’t stop the other cat unless you get cat proof fencing. But even then it limits your cat to just your garden, better than nothing though! Is that an option?

Yes we could look into this then she would still be able to go out
