TW Photo Of Blood And Poo

Has anyone experienced this before? cats are a year old, photos taken 8th June and today, not sure which cat (out of 2) did the first one but I know which one did todays. Both are spayed and vaccinated. Thank you

Yes I have. My foster cat has been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. It can be caused by different things but usually it's the immune system having a massive over-reaction to food. He's now on special hydrolysed protein food.

However blood in stools could be loads of different reasons and needs a vet visit.

Keep an eye for any other possible symptoms e.g. weight loss, excessively smelly poos (way more than normal), soft or runny poo, seeming constipated - straining to poo in the litter tray or appearing to want to use tray but not getting in (repeatedly). The more you can tell the vet the better.

I had this with both my cats, I think it was stress related in my case (when they moved etc) and vet suggested Fortiflora which helped. Always worth a vet checking but hopefully just an irritation. My cats were a very similar age too! Have they had any changes recently?

My cat had it when I swapped her food. Saw the vet who gave some kaolin and swapped back. No further issues.

Thank you for your reply, We have started letting them out in the garden (supervised) for a few hours so I would say that was a change but a good one I would have thought aa they love being out there

Could they have eaten something that irritated? Mine ate some grasses we have in a flower bed once and was promptly sick after despite trying to deter them - I don’t think poisonous just they went a bit crazy and tried too much

I think she only had it once. I realised straight away that it was the food change. She was a very sensitive sicky cat anyway. When I swapped her to grain free food, her vomiting also reduced massively.

My current cat gets blood in her poo if she’s been constipated then had a big poo. I give her cat milk if she’s gone more than a couple of days.
