Should I take an injured fledgling caught by kittens to the vet?

My horrible, vile, monster kittens brought a thrush fledgling to the garden this morning and tried to kill it for a while but it was flapping and pecking at them and they were too scared to administer the neck bite - I finally caught it myself and put it in the cat carrier in a quiet place for now.

It's feisty, but there was blood. I suppose my best recourse is to take it to the vet to finish it off rather than try to release it back where it came from? Even if the parents found it, a wound from a cat tends to infect pretty quickly, doesn't it...

Damn. (I should have a Magic Cardboard Box like my Dad had; it was amazing how many injured birds he'd put in there, and by the morning they would have 'got better and flown away'... 😏).

So - the 'suggested title' above is my question, I guess...

You could look on Facebook to see if there are any bird rehabbers near you, they often collect. You might have to join a group but they are so passionate about what they do so someone will help. Take as clear a pic as you can of the wound so they can see if it can be helped.

They can normally be saved if the wounds are superficial but it will need antibiotics.

Keep it in the box for now and if you can make a donut shape out of a teatowel or similar to support the little thing ❤️

I mean taking it to a vet to end its life prolongs its pain. I would have done the kind thing and promptly found a brick if I knew it wasn’t going to live

Well my Dad, as a countryman, would have quietly wrung its neck... I know how to do it in theory, but it's not a job you want to bodge... 😳

The brick - no, couldn't - the wee thing is so feisty, I couldn't look into its bright little eyes and do that... rather than that, I would put it back under the bushes and let nature take its course... If it weren't bleeding, that's what I would do...

But will now take it to the vet. I wanted to call in anyway...

My cat did the same with a magpie once. I took to vet as soon as I could catch it as was flapping about the undergrowth. So sad, it's mate was staying nearby squawking merry hell😥

Just take it to the vet, we were in the vets last week a man brought in an injured bird the vet euthanized it quickly they came out and told the waiting man, i couldn't wring a neck either !
