Our lovely old girl hasn’t come home….

Our lovely Molly, the sweetest, beautifully natured 18 year old girl hasn’t been home for a few days now, coincidentally since the very hot Thursday of the heatwave. She’d been coming home during the night as that was the only time her food was being eaten but I figured that she was enjoying the warmth or finding a shady spot.
Shes always been very much an outdoor cat, we live semi rurally so she’s always had lovely fields and gardens to explore.
We have called for her but she’s not come - the last year or so she’d taken to being very vocal and yowling loudly around the place and we’ve not heard her.
She was quite thin and straggly due to her age and I suspect her kidneys weren’t working so well so I’m thinking she took herself off somewhere quiet as cats sometimes do.
This is the worst way as there is no closure, on the other hand it would have been kinder to her than a stressful vet trip.
We will miss you our beautiful girl 💕

That’s very sad. I hope this is more peaceful for her.

Empress13 · 27/06/2026 07:23

💔 hope she is at peace now x

Oh my goodness this is heartbreaking 💔 I hope she is at peace now

She’s turned up! Very hungry so I think she was waiting the hot weather out somewhere.
Excuse how raggedy she is - she’s 18!

I'm so glad she is back home!

OrsolaRosso · 27/06/2026 09:01

What a lovely update 😻
I'm guessing she didn't get to 18 years of age without knowing how to use her nine lives wisely 😊

soveryhot · 27/06/2026 09:07

Thank you all, I’m very relieved

She probably found a cool spot.

BlindSpotForCats · 27/06/2026 09:11

Aaah she's lovely! I am so so pleased she came home.

We have a 15 year old cat who has been out hunting for mice most days in the heat and a 23 year old cat who is struggling. Every time I see my 23 year old asleep I check to see if her chest is rising. It's stressful!!! Our 23 year old also has that raggedy look. (She's also a feisty bear so DS1 and I debated at length if we should give her a cool bath yesterday..... we decided to just dip her paws into cool water instead.... the skin on our lacerated arms thanked us).

ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer · 27/06/2026 20:54

Ah this has really brightened my day 🥰

Empress13 · 27/06/2026 22:45

Brokedownpalace · 27/06/2026 23:11

Ah so glad she is home for you, she is lovely she reminds me of my daughter's stuffed teddy cat, in the nicest possible way ♥️

Iliketulips · 28/06/2026 07:21

So glad she's back - she's a lovely old girl.

You mentioned her kidneys. Has she been diagnosed with kidney disease? If not, can you get her to vet? It can get debilitating at the end, but you can do things to keep them more comfortable.

Beamur · 28/06/2026 08:36

Midsummer is bewitching for cats. Glad she's home.
