Adopting two kittens next week & I'm Panicking!

I need to be talked down, and, hopefully given some kitten tips!

My loved and adored cat Scully had to be PTS in March due to kidney disease, I was heart broken and my house is way too quiet and doesn't feel right, so I'm adopting 2 kittens from the same friend who I got Scully from 11 years ago as I feel there will still be a connection to my kitty (if that makes sense!). About 4 years ago I had a post on here when she went missing for 3 weeks and everyone was incredibly kind and supportive and I lurk on this board a lot though rarely post.

I realise it's ridiculous I'm panicking so much, it's not like I'm not used to having a cat in the house but it seems such a long time ago that I had a kitten, let alone two!

I plan on keeping them confined in my snug for the first few days, it over looks the garden, has Scully's cat tree and a minimum of hiding places, I have of course, bought new toys and beds etc.

I'm worried about them getting out before they're spayed (they will go outside once they've been done) especially in the warmer weather with open windows. Then, I'm wondering how it works with feeding and a litter tray? Do I get them both a litter tray and separate food bowls and water bowls or do they share stuff? Won't one eat the others food?!

(I plan on blocking the patio doors from the snug so I won't accidentally open them!)

I keep veering between incredibly excitement, sadness at not having Scully here anymore and then wild panic!

Any help, hints and tips greatly appreciated - many thanks!

I’m here just for photos! A friend of mine is getting 2 kittens so I have kitten envy at the moment, though I do love my mad pair of voids!

Watching thread with interest!

Thank you for all of the lovely messages.

Springs have been purchased, the snug has been partly cleared and air lock procedures are being practised!

I've found it really difficult to even think about washing a couple of Scully's old blankets and decided that I'd keep them unwashed in a memory box and just buy some new blankets.

Names are still being pondered, I will post photos when they are here and see what ideas you all have!

Aww I’m sorry for the loss of Scully ❤️ these kittens will settle right in, and it’s because of how much you loved Scully that these kittens will have a loving home.

Our senior boy cat was PTS in June 2024, and we adopted two kittens 6 weeks later as the house was horribly still and silent without a pet.
I still can’t bring myself to give my two kitties any of my old cat’s toys, but it doesn’t matter, as they have plenty of their own! I wasn’t expecting their mad kitten engergy! But we did the Jackson Galaxy simmer and boil method from the beginning before bedtime so they grew up knowing to go to bed when we do. We also have flatcats window mesh throughout the house, amazing and I recommend that if to your taste.
best of luck with your kittens and look forward to seeing your pics! My two when they were teenie x

@Leeds157 Thank you 💖 Your two kittens are sooo cute! It must be hard now to believe they were both that small!

I have never heard Jackson Galaxy simmer and boil method, I'm off to look that up, thank you for the tip. Also the flat cats window mesh idea.

Am glad you found the springs to order - sorry for delay in seeing your query. I ordered a couple of extra packs as my girl is a loon with them - batted under furniture, sofas, etc! I clear them out every so often, but always keep extra handy in a drawer (house does look tidy, but I cba constantly moving stuff to retrieve them 😹).

@PushkaMcgee - I think today’s the day, so best of luck with picking up the new arrivals. You must be very excited.

Full transparency - I’m really just here for the incoming Cat Tax 😹

The two little bundles of mischief are home! Trying to get a decent photo so far has proved difficult but hopefully one of these gives you an idea. They seem quite happy in the snug with various toys and beds.

They have eaten and used the litter tray and are getting more adventurous by the minute! They have napped in the most uncomfortable places, totally ignoring the various blankets and beds that are out for them!

I'm still undecided on names, I'm thinking of Tequila for the stripy one (my parents always named their cats after drinks!), pondering maybe Juniper (Junipurr!) or Onyx for the black one but would welcome any name ideas.

I hope the uploads work.

Just remember kittens are incredibly hard work after a chilled adult cat. Good luck !

SqueakyFromme · 14/06/2026 17:30

Junipurr - i love that

Allseeingallknowing · 14/06/2026 18:09

Full of fun and mischief!

Oh wow, they are totally adorable 😻. Love the photo of them curled up together.

I am useless at suggesting names, so often read but never comment! Am sure you’ll arrive at the perfect names soon, so good luck.

Remember to take loads of photos, they grow up so fast.
