Is my cat a toddler in disguise?

He wants to eat whatever I’m eating, gets over-tired and wired but won’t sleep unless we shut him in a bedroom, he talks all the time and has to know everything that is going on in the house!

He's a gorgeous boy and we love him to bits but this is the youngest cat I’ve ever had (8 months). Anyone else got a toddler cat?!

Ah, he's a beautiful ginger boy. I have one, 14 now, and he's been an arsehat in the 13 years I've had him. He won't change. You just have to embrace it!

I've always thought toddlers and dogs were interchangeable but I have to concede yours might be too. None of my cats have tried to steal my food, they sleep when tired, or even when not, more fixated on the garden wildlife than me, and normal chatting, although The Stray is known for her gobby attitude.

Funny how both are ginger 👀 (and beautiful!)

got a toddler too
1 year old yowls all night sits under the bed in the day, has been known to pee on the sofa not unlike my darling niece when she was 2

I have a 13 year old cat,so definitely not a toddler! But she also has to know about everything that's going on in the house, talks all the time and always wants to investigate anything that I'm eating. I think some of them never grow out of it! Your boy is absolutely gorgeous btw! ♥️

Aha, so I could be in for years more of this! Good job he makes me smile every day. Love all the other wonderful toddler cats too 😊

Is he a Maine Coon? I can’t tell for sure from the photo.

If he is, my advice is to just embrace it! At the very least, you’ll always have someone to talk to 😹

I don’t own a cat but my neighbour does, but the cat appears to be trying to move in with us. It started bolting into our porch when we go into the house. Once when the inside porch door wasn’t shut properly it walked into our house before I could stop it, which it now tries to do everytime! Husband (allergic to cats) thinks it’s hilarious, I do not! I have leftover food now in fridge to coax it out (it won’t be picked up!) Tonight it ran in when I brought in fish and chips (I stupidly didn’t notice, he wasn’t there then he was inside!), I tried to coax it out with chicken, it shouted at me! It got some fish in the end- given outside away from the door! It’s also started to nonchalantly walk behind the car as we back into our drive - it’s deaf as a post so worried we’ll run it over. It’s also ginger, old and honestly we thought it would die last year as did its owner!

He is a Maine Coon! He’s a rescue boy and seems to be just loving his new life 💚

He is gorgeous! But also a ginger boy so that explains a lot! 😂...my boy lives with my parents (long story short he doesn't get on with my female) but he insists on being involved in everything whether its "helping" my dad with gardening or supervising mum hang the laundry out. Also a bugger for stealing seats on the sofa & bats dad on the head when he's nodded off & the cat wants more food!

You’ll never have a dull moment then. My boy has only just turned two (I got him when he was 11 months), so I can’t comment on what they’re like once they reach adulthood.

He chats away to himself all the time - his nickname is Chatty McChatFace 😹. And he watches things I do intently, almost like he’s thinking “ok, I need to pay attention just in case I’m ever required to do this”. It can be a bit unnerving at times, am thankful he doesn’t have opposable thumbs or else I’d be getting worried.

Am laughing at the cake testing. Luckily, mine has never gone on the worktop, he just sits by me looking hopeful whenever I’m prepping food.

Please feel free to post more photos, he’s absolutely gorgeous.

I’ve got a toddler too- except mine is just over a year and a half. Especially the tired but wired thing! 😂 He sits there looking so sleepy that we have to put him down for a nap in the bedroom with the curtains closed- otherwise he won’t sleep because he gets FOMO 😂

The mother of Cat Four is owned by my friend. This cat is a tuxedo feral who turned up in her back yard one day, and then moved into her house. She’s only just turned two years, the vet thinks. It’s taken my friend ages to tame this cat. My friend texted yesterday that the cat has finally started purring when being patted. However, she also now demands very very long and manic interactive toy play sessions. My friend sends hilarious photos of the cat staring at her with a death glare which suggest “Choose between patting me or death”.
I think she’s not so much a toddler as a three year old.

Hallelujah2020 · 04/04/2026 18:29

Mine is a two year old toddler that can jump. She has zero self preservation and has to be involved in everything 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Ijwwm · 04/04/2026 23:03

Mine can go from 60 - 0 in a couple of seconds. Doesn’t even have time to lay down 😹
