Cat tracks muddy paw prints indoors but won’t let paws be wiped

How do you deal with your cat treading in mud and making dirty paw marks around your home? My cat absolutely will not tolerate her paws being touched/wiped and gets very angry if I attempt it. Do you just put towels down and block access to bedrooms etc? I'm struggling with my cat leaving paw prints EVERYWHERE.

One of these at each cat entry point?

I have a long ruggable runner in the utility room (where the cat flap is) and they have to walk on it to get through - works really well! Then I can just wash it as needed.

Her paws get wiped off on the mat under her cat flap.

I shut the kitchen door when it’s wet so the paw prints don’t stray beyond there - but that’s still a lot of floor mopping through the winter! If I’m in the kitchen when he comes in I’ll put a tea towel on the floor and he can’t resist coming to walk on it.

Sadly I'm not allowed a cat flap so there isn't one but definitely need some sort of rug to remove the mud

I have a wool pad at the foot of the cat flap so they have to stand on that when they get in and it takes all of the mud/dirt off.

mat under cat flap

Corral cat in kitchen and have clean cloth available.

Kneel down immediately behind cat so they are facing away from you, and with their arse between your knees so they can't go backwards.

Grab scruff of neck and push down.

Wipe front & back paws on one side.

Switch grasp of scruff to other hand and repeat.

Give handful of Dreamies immediately afterwards.

Put your pussy on the naughty step if she does it again! That will make her think twice next time.

We have a long rug outside the kitchen door and usually they sit and have a wash whilst waiting for entry.

This thread has made me think about what to do in the next house though, where they will have a cat flap so I need to think that through.

My cat somehow manages to walk over 2 mats (one under cat flap and one by kitchen door) and go upstairs across carpet (dark blue fortunately) and still put muddy paw prints on the bed and window sill!
