Help! Marvin may have eaten poisonous spider!

Hello! apologies for hitting the alert button, but I'm panicking slightly here. Last night I found a false wolf hunter spider in the kitchen - apologies, but picture attached. It was late and I didn't really know what to do, so I just left it to it's own devices. Marvin did his own thing overnight and came to bed for cuddles as usual in the early hours. However all day to day he's been off colour. No poos or wees and very subdued. He's eating ok but just not himself. I've since read that wolf hunter spiders can bite if menaced so I'm now panicking that he's been bitten - can anyone help?

poisonous means the animals eaten and has a toxic body or skin spiders are venomous like certain snakes and need to inject there venom

When I checked out the false wolf spider on line it said it could bite and cause irritation in humans and pets. I'm not really sure what happened to be honest - just that at the same time the spider appeared, Marvin did something to his mouth. I'm putting two and two together and getting six I know, but as an indoor cat tjr opportunities for Marv to get into too much trouble are pretty limited. Anyway we will hopefully know more tomorrow.

Yep-

it bites you and you get ill/die- venomous
you bite it and you get ill/die - poisonous

Whatever the spider was or did ( or didn't do) is destined to be a mystery. Marvin got a clean bill of health at the vet with no obvious dental issues. He did have a slightly swollen lymph gland on one side of his jaw indicating there had been some infection but no obvious signs of what might have caused it. Just another cat mystery I guess.

I hope Marvin (awesome name for a cat btw) has learnt his lesson and won't do whatever he did or didn't do ever again!

I bet you are very relieved Flowers

Oh come on OP, how can you possibly suspect such an innocent face of plotting.

Puppylucky · 25/03/2026 17:42

If your Lady Penelope can walk like Poirot, Marvin can put an innocent face on - it's all for show!
