A purring cat 🐈 😺

What is it about a snuggly purry kitty that makes all your troubles go away? temporarily

One of my cats was gravely ill just before Christmas. She was in the vets and they were being very pessimistic about her chances. Poor kitty was paralysed, no movement in any leg, failing 'menace testing' so vet thought serious neurological damage of some kind, not responding to pain stimulus.
I went to the vets late at night to see for myself to decide what to do next. The unresponsive cat lifted her head at the sound of my voice and started to purr. It was a heartbreaking moment but made me realise she was still there. Roll on a few months and she's curled up asleep next to me on the settee. That purr saved her life. She's always been a very purry girl ❤️ I have never been so relieved. That was a good sound!

We’re going to have people citing their favourite songs next.
Well since you asked - how about Duetto buffo di due gatti? 😻😻

The trouble with this thread is that the title doesn’t make it sufficiently clear it’s about cats, @YelramBob . We’re going to have people citing their favourite songs next.

My bad 😔

I also enjoy the sound of distant sirens, nothing warms the heart like the emergency services tending to the sick and victims of crime.

I'm quite content with La Macarena 💃

I love love love it when my little cat comes to bed with me, she lies on my chest and purrs! But I absolutely love it when she stops purring and that means she's fallen asleep! What an honour that she chooses to go to sleep with me!

I still miss the thud of Troy jumping off the windowsill and rushing/thundering down the stairs when I used to shout out "Mammy's home".

Haribo is also a chunk but he hardly purrs and won't sit on my lap (restless legs). It is quite funny when he tries to wake up my partner (favourite slave) with a tiny meow which gets louder each time he's ignored.

catinateacup · 24/02/2026 22:07

Love a purr of course, but for some reason I rather like that particular sound cats make when crunching biscuits 😍

I also love cat snoring - so much nicer and more soothing than human snoring! - and waking up at night to hear the cat methodically washing herself at the end of the bed.

Edited

Absolutely, cat snoring is just adorable. Until they suddenly stop, so you get yourself out of bed to check they are still breathing and they give you daggers for disturbing them. 🤣🤣
I also loved hearing my cats thundering round the house like a heard of elephants. I couldn’t believe how heavy pawed she was!

HippyChickMama · 24/02/2026 22:21

The little chirps are my favourite, one of our cats likes to engage in conversation and will answer with little inquisitive noises when spoken to

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/02/2026 14:41

We have two siblings Male/Female , but pretty much identical.
Male has a strong loud purr and the weirdest call when he's caught ( to go in his carrier to the Vet )
He walks with his claws retracted unless he's being a Gaslighty Little Fecker and wants to pretend to be his sister . She always has her claws out click-click-click
He crunches biscuits ,loudly
They both do the weird sweeping action on the floor with a front leg pulling either fresh air or a stray biscuit towards them He does this with both legs like a karate move Grin

The nicest sound is the brrrrrrrr as they jump on the bed .

Hotafternoon · 26/02/2026 14:46

That funny chirruping noise they make instead of an actual meow.

I really do miss having a 🐈.

Zinner · 26/02/2026 22:03

My lovely moggy, an early riser and hopeful early breakfaster, always starts purring when he’s successfully woken me up. He’s just so pleased the 30 minutes of relentless shouting and pushing things off the bedside table proceeding this has finally worked. I cannot be cross with him when he purrs.

Gribouille · 27/02/2026 08:23

Currently bereft of cats 😢 (but have plans to go looking when Kitten Season kicks off)... but...

I love the sound of 'kitten hooves' when they thunder up and down the stairs...

Also the irrepressible burbling when they see a bird tantalisingly close - even if it scares the bird away - unable to stop themselves yamming and yipping... 😍

TheoreticallyAdult · 27/02/2026 08:28

I have an eeekeekkkeekker. He sits looking out at the birds and eekkekekeeking at them.

There is an instagram account dedicated to the eekkek!

I didn't know it had a name! Thank you for the wormhole, here I go... 🪱😍

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/02/2026 09:56

MaleCat doesn't make a sound when he stalks prey ( he thinks he's being clever ) but he wags his tail , like a dog !
So how is this quiet stealth manoeuvre working out for you Dex ?
Erm, not . He couldn't find his bum with both hands !

HortiGal · 28/02/2026 13:53

@Gribouille rescues are overwhelmed come kitten season, we adopted a kitten; now 9, recently a spiritely 16 yr old.
