Mexican standoff - it'll be me giving in first, won't it?

So these two pampered princesses (cat tax on the thread once the pics are approved) usually have Go-Cat biscuits, topped up whenever they get empty, plus half a pouch each 2-3 times a day depending on how quickly it gets eaten.

Been trying to economise on grocery shopping so instead of £5 for a big bag of Go-Cat, I bought the £2.40 Aldi version. Well since I first filled the bowl two days ago it HAS NOT BEEN TOUCHED. However, that now means that the little 'darlings' have been extra hungry and so have been begging and begging for more wet food, especially when I'm a) trying to WFH or b) trying to sleep at 4am! We're talking yowling, paws and claws up noses, climbing on heads, knocking stuff over.... ultra demanding behaviour!

But after all I am their slave.... so I guess I'm going to the supermarket tomorrow to buy Go-Cat aren't I? Bloody divas....

Yes, it certainly will. In contrast, I bought my mistress expensive fresh food and she flatly refused to countenance it. She's basic but she's mine.

PinkLemonadee · 19/02/2026 19:35

I don't think go cat is particularly expensive cat food to be honest... Mine get Purina because my younger two will eat anything and it's the only thing my oldest cat will touch.

TheoreticallyAdult · 19/02/2026 19:36

Mine choosy boy will literally drop 300g of weight by choosing not to eat rather than eat something that doesn’t come up to his standards.

You will give in first OP.

The Aldi version must be awful because even the strays I feed won’t touch it. The blue packet used to be wolfed down then they changed that and now it’s rejected.

MotherOfSixCats · 19/02/2026 19:41

You already know you've lost that battle!

TheMorgenmuffel · 19/02/2026 19:44

As if you could possibly win.

I think it’s worth it for their health to switch them back to Go Cat, which is a lower end brand to begin with. My cat likes it when I mix Go Cat with a higher quality biscuit. It stretches out both of them. In the end though it’s whatever they will eat.

Find a food topper and drench the dry food. Save it being wasted.

Oh it will go to my mum's cat* who will be eternally grateful

*Actually not my mum's cat at all, he lives two doors down but comes in every day to eat and to sleep on the bed - owners are perfectly aware

I do love that expression on your feline overlord's face!
I remember when it was used previously, it had the caption 'I thought we had discussed this', which was so very apt for the expression!😻

catera · 19/02/2026 20:42

Even my visiting cat who shouldn’t be picky at all, took one look at some Lidl food and backed away from it like “where is my Hills and my ham?”
my reply of “you don’t even live here” didn’t work and well, he’s eating Hills and ham….

Can you mix them? Or add them to the wet food.

I'll give it a try - it won't go to waste (see above), just means an extra trip to the supermarket!

Go-cat = bourbon biscuits with added vitamins
Aldi = sprouts and parsnips mix

Which would you prefer OP?

I don't actually like chocolate....

Also if I was 'starving' I'd eat what was there - I use the definition of 'starving' loosely here of course! 😂

Bless you! It's my favourite picture of the tiny, fluffy tyrant.

Shedmistress · 20/02/2026 08:40

I was given a bag of supermarket brand dry food by my friend whose cat wouldnt touch it, 3 years ago as we have been feeding feral cats and I still have half of it as none of them will touch it. not one of the 15 we have since would go near it.

Nor did the badger who comes in from the woods hunting for food and who completely bypassed said dry food in his or her wanderings.

i basically leave it out for the slugs when we get really bad weather and I need the slugs to move away from seedlings.
