He was always with us. I'm so sad
I don't want to do anything. It's so boring and quiet without him. He kept me company. I love him so much.
He loved us so much. He showed us every day.
It's not the same. 😢😢

I'm really sorry for your loss and understand how hard it is. My lovely old lady cat was PTS on 02/02. She only went in for an x-ray, but they found she was very ill and wouldn't survive much longer so we made the horrible decision to end her suffering. She was my shadow and just a loving fluffy little soul. We have her son here too and he is all out of sorts.
We had her cremated separately and have just received her ashes back to bury in the garden.

purpleme12 · 19/02/2026 15:39

@UnderThePressure I'm so sorry about your little cat as well 😢

I'm so sorry OP, my heart goes out to you. I've been through it several times myself.

HoppityBun · 19/02/2026 15:41

I can only say that I feel for you and know the pain, only too well

Pudmyboy · 19/02/2026 15:43

So sorry @purpleme12 , please talk about your little love and post pictures if you want to, most here have been through something like you are going through, and are here for you to talk if you want to 💐💐💐💐

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 19/02/2026 15:44

I'm so sorry 😞 I can imagine how awful it is. I will be going through it soon with my dog and I keep crying. Take comfort in your memories and the fact your lovely cat had such a happy life. I know from losing my parents that grief gets easier to cope with as time goes on. Take care.

purpleme12 · 19/02/2026 16:00

I just love him so much

He would come sit on my shoulders in the kitchen like a scarf

He loved to be with you. He'd get in the way of you and the laptop in the kitchen so you'd have to snuggle him close to you ❤️❤️

He'd sleep next to me every night

My other cat isn't like this and I'm really missing him 😢

So sorry you’ve lost your little buddy, it’s absolutely heartbreaking.

I lost one of my cats aged 10, who we had from kittens with his brother. He was a very confident, and a proper cuddle monster whereas his brother was more standoffish. However when cuddle monster died, the brother left behind changed completely! He just has a gentler nature and was probably a bit overshadowed, but he’s more than making up for his time on the sidelines.

Makes me question the idea that cats need to live in pairs, as he’s very much enjoying the sole attention !! Give your other cat, and yourself, some time x

Sminty2 · 19/02/2026 19:39

I’m so sorry, it’s just so very sad when they leave us. Take care xx

Pancakeflipper · 19/02/2026 19:43

I'm sorry. Losing our pets is horrible.
They bring such a great energy into a home.

I'm.glad your cat had you to love and care for them and you were their best friend.

ArcticBells · 19/02/2026 19:44

Losing them is just the worst. 💐

purpleme12 · 19/02/2026 21:36

Thank you ❤️❤️

I had him for 17 years

He cuddled me asleep in my arms before we got him. And cuddled us every day in his later years. He had kidney disease and hyperthyroidism. I gave him the medicine for hyperthyroidism for 4 whole years. We had four more brilliant years with him. He didn't like it but he was no trouble. He had the kidney food when he had kidney disease. He ate that ok. In the end it was nothing to do with the hyperthyroidism or kidney disease. Those results were fine. It was something else in his body 😞

He was just so happy to be with us

Oh OP I’m so sorry. A few years ago I wouldn’t have understood, but since having our girl cat I totally do. When she’s out the house just feels different, if she’s poorly or acting differently the whole vibe of the house is off, I’m dreading the day we say goodbye. No advice but my complete sympathies FlowersFlowers

Puddingwombles · 14/03/2026 18:54

I’m so sorry, sending you a big hug and thinking of you x

Myswweetchild · 14/03/2026 19:00

@purpleme12 could you talk to someone at Pet Bereavement or Blue Cross - they really understand and were such a massive help to me, when I had to have my dog pts.
I was like you. Couldn't stop crying, never known pain like it.
I'm 2 years on - it does get easier 💔

Pudmyboy · 14/03/2026 20:32

I second speaking to someone from Blue Cross, @purpleme12 .
As the late queen said, 'Nothing can take away the agony of these moments, for grief is the price we pay for love.’
I'm sending unmumsnetty hugs too💐💐💐

TheLurkingOne · 14/03/2026 21:00

I'm really sorry for your loss. I felt the same when my best boy died.

RosesAndHellebores · 14/03/2026 21:04

So sorry @purpleme12 Flowers

mumofoneAloneandwell · 14/03/2026 21:05

Oh @purpleme12 I'm so sorry for your loss 🥺💐

iwonttaketheeasyroad · 14/03/2026 21:09

Hi , I’m so sorry for your loss . We had to put our cat to sleep back in January after aggressive cancer in her jaw. It was heartbreaking and I’d never known grief like it . Like you she was super affectionate and was with us all the time she was only 7 years old . Our other cat is just not affectionate at all . We love him of course but we miss our little girl sooo much . Hopefully it will get better with time .

PropitiousJump · 14/03/2026 21:14

I'm so sorry. After 17 wonderful years together, you must be heartbroken. You gave him the last and best gift you could, of a peaceful ending and escape from pain. When the time is right, he will find a new cat for you, to fill the cat-shaped hole, and send your new friend into your path. That's what all mine have done for me. They know how much we hurt without them.Flowers
