What is the little cocky strut that cats do as they accompany you over to their bowl while being fed?

I dont see cats do it in any other context.

You know what I mean

They've been sitting there glaring at you for ages. Or pestering you for ages

You get up, and head toward where the cat food is or their bowls are stored and suddenly they walk in front of you with that funny little 'Im going to get fed' strut, they look sort of cocky although that might be my misinterpretation.

And then sort of lead you back toward their feeding area strutting in front of you.

I never see them do it any other time, not in the garden or coming for cuddles or just general walking around the house.

Do big cats do this thing?

Haha my cat does this He has a little swagger like a Liam Gallagher walk lol

Plinketyplonks · 09/02/2026 22:16

Mine does this and just as I’m reaching into the biscuit bag for the scoop nudges my hand very hard!

No smug strutting here- anytime i walk anywhere near the food bowl or food cupboard its a comical run in front of me like ‘yaaaaay, food !’

I wonder if cubs do it when their mothers bring back a kill?

shellyleppard · 11/02/2026 10:01

As soon as my son comes in from college he's surrounded by yowling cats 🤣🤣 they have designated him as the feeder....

Ours does the swagger weaving right in front of you so you almost trip up, but also a very gentle bite on the toes if you are not quick enough or bite on the hand when you reach into the cupboard.

Mine does this too, especially on the stairs.

musicalfrog · 25/02/2026 06:28

I don't see it as swagger, more like being a desperado like they don't quite trust that you'll put the food down for them and are checking your every move 🤣

SardinesOnButteredToast · 25/02/2026 07:27

Wanker walk. Mine does it after punching me in the face whilst I'm in bed.

EmpressaurusKitty · 25/02/2026 08:23

Mine might watch when I’m getting her food but she’s far too cool to seem excited about it until she’s gobbling it up while making happy noises.

Treats are a whole other matter. She’ll sit by the treat drawer staring at me & then get up on her back legs to see what I’m getting out of it.
