New tiny kitten

Hello! We have acquired a teeny kitten (supposedly 9 weeks old) but she’s the runt and is very small.
i haven’t weighed her, we only got her today.
We’ve kitten proofed the lounge and are keeping the dog and the other cat away.
She has one snotty eye which I’m cleaning every couple of hours with cooled saline solution
I’ve bought kitten milk and dry and wet food (the same as she was having where she came from).
Shes done a wee and a loose poo in the litter tray and mostly slept. She wasn’t interested in the food or water or saucer of milk so I syringed about 5ml warm kitten milk into her and that woke her up a bit. she then ate a little wet food.

are we doing the right things?

Good boy Merlin looking after her.

HatStickBoots · 30/03/2026 22:27

So glad you caught her @Fatiguedwithlife before she got lost. That’s so lovely of Merlin to go with her and help keep her safe. Dreamies are a godsend! 🩷

Pudmyboy · 03/04/2026 18:08

Is she behind Merlin?
What a hero he is, looking after her like that!😻

I’m on holiday at the moment so here is a pic my neighbour sent yesterday (she’s feeding P&M)

Thank you so much @Fatiguedwithlife !😀
I hope you’re having a lovely holiday. Are you missing these little darlings? I’m loving all her little spots and stripes 🩷

Onlyforreindeer · 06/04/2026 12:00

She looks so healthy now, growing fast and obviously has you wrapped around her little paw!

Fatiguedwithlife · 08/04/2026 14:52

We’re home and allowing her supervised garden play; the beach towel tassels are great fun!

Hoolahoophop · 08/04/2026 14:58

I have never wanted a cat DH does, your posts are pushing me towards his way of thinking!

Fatiguedwithlife · 08/04/2026 15:14

@Hoolahoophopthey are so entertaining and really take very little ‘care’ especially if you allow them outside (a lot of people don’t agree with that because of threat to birds etc but 🤷‍♀️ I do what I can to mitigate risk)
The Cat Distribution System might just mean you end up with one anyway 😉

@Fatiguedwithlife I am literally just looking up the cost of cat allergy testing following your latest cute cat picture! (I fear I could have an allergy as am allergic to rabbits but don't know any cat owners so I cant find a friend with a cat I can go and sit in their house with!) Its £250 but i wouldn't want to adopt only to have to rehome again.

Fatiguedwithlife · 08/04/2026 15:28

How about going to a cat cafe? Also just FYI my son is allergic to cats (and dogs and rabbits and guinea pigs and horses and dust mites- NHS allergy tests as a toddler) and is absolutely fine now. I think he’s built up an immunity to ours somehow.
Horses still set him off (wheeze, eyes) but he is never exposed so hasn’t had chance to get used to them. Disclaimer for allergy experts I’ve no idea how it works; just anecdotal.

She’s grown so much, a proper cat now! Her coat is beautiful!

Davros · 08/04/2026 17:04

Lovely photos

Pudmyboy · 09/04/2026 21:52

What a gorgeous homely picture!
It's so lovely to see Penny and Merlin hang out together so much: which could have predicted it?
I hope you had a good holiday @Fatiguedwithlife , and it looks like your feline overlords have forgiven you for being away!

Breadcat24 · 09/04/2026 22:08

what happy looking cats

spiderlight · 13/04/2026 13:13

@Hoolahoophop - look into Petal Cleanse. It's some sort of magic lotion that drastically cuts down the allergens that come off cats. My friend's husband was severely, spectacularly allergic but rescued a kitten that was on the central reservation of a busy road and they couldn't bear to part with her (not chipped and nobody claimed her). Petal Cleanse and gradual exposure worked miracles - he now lives with four cats completely symptom-free.

Fatiguedwithlife · 14/04/2026 14:22

That’s amazing @spiderlight

Little tiger with a big personality!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/04/2026 17:52

Ahhh is Penny washing him in the first picture .
Merlin looks severely put upon in the 2nd picture .
You are not my Mother he thinks .

Our guinea-pigs used to groom each other , it was quite sweet often the groomee had a What On Earth look .

Shinyhappyapple · 14/04/2026 18:28

Such a lovely thread ❤️

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 14/04/2026 19:14

I love Penny and Merlin 🩷

Fatiguedwithlife · 14/04/2026 19:46

Merlin is so pretty. He’s annoyed I had the audacity to run out of cat biscuits (for a few hours- no cats were starved!)
