My poor girl has been PTS 😪

My darling girl was PTS last night, she was 9, I am broken, my children are devastated they don't remember a time she wasn't here 😪

I took her to the vets a couple of weeks ago as she had a funny tern but the vet made me feel like a hypochondriac for taking her and she was sent away with a full bill of clean health

Last night her breathing became very shallow and she went for a wee all over my bed, took her straight to emergancy OOH to discover she had a severe heart murmur and a very low temp, they said running tests would be to stressful for her and I didn't want her to be in any more pain or to suffer

Apologies for rambling, I just needed to write it down 🩷

I’m so sorry for your loss 💔

CatChant · 13/01/2026 06:19

I’m so sorry. It’s always very hard to lose them but such a shock when it is so out of the blue.

You did the right thing for your lovely girl by not letting her suffer. Be kind to yourself and allow yourself to grieve.

So sorry. Nine is quite young for a cat.
Our 14 year old dog died on Friday night. Took her to the vets as I was concerned about her breathing/weight loss and general behaviour and during her time there she crashed and they called to say she was dying and we couldn’t get there in time to say goodbye. She had also been to the vets a month previously and the expensive steroids and antibiotics did f-all and that vet was rather dismissive too! It’s terrible our animals can’t tell us how or why they are in pain.

Sorry for your loss, it sounds like you did all you could for her including loving her very much.

lostmywayrightnow · 13/01/2026 08:08

I am so utterly sorry op. She sounds so loved.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 13/01/2026 13:42

Oh that's so sad op. I'm thinking of you at this awful time. Take care if yourself. Maybe it would think of ways to honour the memory of your lovely cat xx

Puddymuddles92 · 15/01/2026 13:47

Thankyou all for your kind messages 🩷 the vets have kindly taken some paw prints which I'm going to collect over the weekend and put in a nice frame! My 10 year old DS is not coping well and its breaking my heart 😪

Sorry for your loss
But if the vet gave a clear bill of health recently wouldnt that have included them listening to her heart if I have this correct I would be asking how they didnt pick up a Severe heart murmer.
If it was a low grade murmer this could be missed or not always heard. But a severe one i def would be asking questions on this
I know it wont get her back but I would want to know what / why etc

I don't think he did listen to her chest, he checked her mouth and felt her stomach and made me feel daft for taking her, I have sent a complaint letter but waiting for a response

That's good, dont let them fob you off.
Like I said sometimes lower grade murmers may not be heard and then next time it is but a severe one im sure would be heard 2 weeks prior, i am not a vet but mine had a lower grade heart murmer which was found on just a general check up and to look at a small spot on her leg ascthey usuarly listen to heart on any visits.
Anything that was tested / seen at visit shoyld have been put on record at time of the visit which you could ask for a copy of.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes
