I’ve got a six year old Ragdoll who’s a fussy eater. I feed her Sheba and gourmet Perle pouches and Iams hairball dried! It seems like I’m throwing away more than she’s eating. Love the flavour one day won’t touch it the next. If it was up to her she’d like shredded chicken at every meal. I was thinking about getting some trial packs but wanted to ask for some advice first. Many thanks from a desperate cat mum 🤣

We have a rescue kitten who now won’t eat felix or usual cat food pouches. We have recently tried Untamed and she seems to like this but still doesn’t like it too many times in a row. I’m now alternating with pouches and Untamed. We also give her chicken and tuna. She eats dried food too.

luckily alternating food doesn’t annoy her tummy.

wish we could find one thing she would eat reliably.

Some of the things I’ve been told to think about.

Flat/shallow bowls ref whisker fatigue
Temp of food - if too cold it has no smell and as predators they have evolved to eat food at blood temp.
Watch them eat very closely, in case it’s teeth or mouth problem.

Fussy cats is a perennial problem, I’ve always assumed they may get bored with the same taste, but then switching can also waste food.

Can you add a little of say things like the shredded chicken to their cat food, in the hope that the smell of the chicken gets them to start eating and once they’ve started they just continue eating the cat food?

Mine love the applaws and other more “real” foods, it’s shredded chicken, fish, prawns, crab etc and they actually enjoy the food.

Some good ideas here to try thanks. I’ll give adding some shredded chicken and tuna in with the pouch to see if that tempts her to eat. All of my other cats have wolfed anything and everything down! So over 50 years I suppose one fussy eater isn’t bad. Though it’s frustrating when I put down her food and then she gets really vocal and destructive when she doesn’t want that flavour today 🫤 cats who’d have em 🤣

My rescued stray would only eat salmon mousse for months then moved to other flavoured mousses and now only eats timbale which is minced up meat and fish in a sauce, and often won't even eat it unless I'm tickling his back.

My cat is very fussy- goes off things v easily- currently likes One dry food. Previously liked Iams dried food then for no reason wouldn't go near it.
I have to let her sniff the packet before I scoop it out ( kind of like tasting the wine) and this seems to help. Yes I know it's nuts. 😂

Mine loves Untamed - make sure you get a good variety - if it’s ever not eaten it’s because he had the same yesterday and I’ve forgotten 😆

I used to be very fussy about what I feed my cat - spent a fortune on premium brands. She enjoys things for two months and then acts like I have offered her a bowl of sick 🤣.

we are using scrambles at the moment - she has been eating that for a month so I think I have two or three weeks until she completely refuses that. No idea what will be next.

she never refuses whole tuna loin though!

my childhood cat would only eat at slightly warmed shredded chicken from marks and Spencer. I suspect that was more my mother than her though🤣

Encore literally 90% meat. We buy the chicken pouches

We had an encore phase. All she will now eats is their whole tuna loin and it counts as a treat not a full meal!

we have cycled through every brand on the market🤣. I think I will go back and start again - as a kitten she would eat lily’s kitchen - I might try to reintroduce that!

I am tempted to just try her on whiskas! I know it’s the McDonald’s of cat food - but at this stage I am bleeding money in food that she refuses to eat!

You can guarantee that when you buy a large quantity of the food they love, they will decide it tastes like poo. Looking at you, fuckerycat, previously the least fussy mog ever. He's been found with his head in the dog kibble bin many times.
