Female kitten 6 months and her toilet habits..

She's a lovely little girl but her toilet habit is stinking! She's pee'd twice on my mat at the back door and now she's left a poo there and thats just this week. She only likes fresh clean litter so for one that is costing me a lot of money (!) And for two I'm constantly having to change her tray. She's not content with me just scooping out the wee/poo but wants a whole fresh tray.

She seems fine within herself so I don't know why she has taken to going by the back door. She did start going down into our cellar for what we thought was just a mooch about until we could smell what she had been really doing down there, and there must have been 8/9 poos all covered in fur😰😷Safe to say she is banned from there now!

Any help would be great as I don't want a smelling house and I want her to be comfortable using her tray.

Does she have a cat flap? Most cats will go outside at this age.

No we don't have a cat flap, we don't want her going outside - she is still really small and we haven't had her spayed yet.

You need to get her spayed asap. At 6 months she is sexually mature and may be spraying. My cats were neutered and going outside from 4 months.

Do you think her peeing on my mat maybe her spaying? I never thought of that and she has been a little more vocal the last few days.

She needs to be spayed asap. Being unspayed will increase her stress and increase stress-related behaviours like inappropriate toileting.

She needs at least 2 litter trays, and try different litters to see if others are preferred.

You need to clean accidents with an enzyme cleaner like Simple Solution otherwise she will keep returning to the same spot.

She also needs lots of enrichment if you're keeping her inside.

She needs to be sprayed ASAP, as if she gets out she can get pregnant. We use puppy pads for our old girl and the rest go out

Thank you, we do have 2 litter trays but I never thought that she maybe stressed out from a possible first heat. My poor girl, I will ring round vets and get her booked in asap

Yes it might be that. You could try temporarily putting a litter box on the mat that she is peeing on, but I would book her in to be spayed asap.

Why isn’t she spayed?!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 10/12/2025 14:01

Cats prefer to toilet outside ime and she sounds stressed by using litter trays.

Yes get her spayed and then start to let her outside 🤷‍♀️

Indoor cats need to be spayed/neutered too.

Is she microchipped?
