Has anyone discovered a really good cat toy?

We’ve got a 7 month old boy who’s driving us all crackers! 🤣

He just seems so full of energy he wants to burst!

He has toys already but he seems bored of them so I was wondering whether you have recommendations for a really good toy which will keep him occupied.

Obviously we play with him but we haven’t got time to play with him for hours on end so what I’m looking for is something to amuse him when I can’t.

Thanks

Ping pong balls are fab. You can get egg shaped ones for cats which are good as they roll more unpredictably. We also had a cat tunel and one of those balls that you can put treats inside (I bought one rather than making my own).

No suggestions OP but just wanted to say he’s gorgeous! I’ve never found a toy my cats love more than cardboard boxes, furniture, fingers, toes and anything else they are told not to touch! Lost countless baubles over the years because they’re a great game! I saw a flappy bird thing recently that flies around, but no idea if it’s any good?

I have attached photo of cat and catnip clownfish

Your kitten is gorgeous...and the print on that bag(?) in the corner is lovely too.

My cat loves Prosecco corks… and anything she can climb…

Please be careful with hair bands - Dcat will chew them up and eat them if she can find some. Nearly resulted in some very big vet bills…

Haribo has the best toy ever. Then he has another this is the best toy ever then another one and another, you get my drift? He's currently getting enjoyment from watching the tv. He's fascinated with adverts at the moment but will even sit looking at a blank screen willing it to turn on.

What a handsome boy ❤️

What about this if you have the space? I got one free to review last week and my cat adores it. Not saying which one is my review as a bit outing. Videos of cats playing with it in the reviews.

Is that an affiliate link?

Anyhow, the largest Kickaroo is the most long lived (and loved) toy to menace here. Other than that, a bird on elastic fishing pole attached securely above the fridge gives him a dangly toy to leap around at - and there's a random bird with securely stitched ribbons being flung around this evening.

Sbmpp · 10/12/2025 22:34

@MemorableLlama I am laughing because about eight years ago we adopted 2 slightly feral kittens and they do not like anything. Not toys, not treats, not catnip (!) not canned food, not fresh cooked chicken, tuna, fish and so on. I even bought them rabbits feet (the dog adored it:). My daughter hung a thin bungee kind of string from top of the door jam with a toy at the end but the cats are not impressed. I’m now thinking a really special catnip toy at the end might do it. Sorry for the too long reply. I really do love cats!

AInightingale · 10/12/2025 22:36

Those tiny little grey cloth mice that look quite realistic. Get them in packs. Not clockwork ones, cats are petrified of them. We had a cat when I was little who loved chasing hazelnuts (shell on) across the floor.

PiggieWig · 10/12/2025 22:42

Cat TV on the iPad if you get desperate!

Happyjoe · 10/12/2025 22:51

Someone else mentioned a DA bird feather dangling toy, esp loved as a kitten in the garden. And squeaky mice/bird seem to be popular particularly at 4am by my bed... But constant throughout her life is rolled up clean, fresh crispy paper and those foam things you can use as noise ear buds. She likes batting them around the wooden floor as they ping well.

I had one that loved chasing chestnuts, I think they like the noise they make?

Yes, or conkers in the autumn. At least they're free!

Happyjoe · 10/12/2025 22:54

@Sbmpp
Sometimes cats who don't react to catnip will react to valerian. Can buy loose valerian tea on amazon but it's best used outside as stinks!

Aluna · 10/12/2025 22:57

Do you let him out OP?

Lion1618 · 10/12/2025 23:57

My boy is partial to knocking around Duplo bricks. Other than that, foil balls have been a firm favourite with most of our family cats.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 11/12/2025 01:39

CatOfHate likes Molly's Mice.

sparkleghost · 11/12/2025 02:06

Anything by Yowwee!! Their catnip is like crack for cats. Our boy (admittedly a very boisterous Bengal rescue) rips them open 🫣 Also seems to enjoy the vast majority of my toddler’s toys and lids (any lid, for any item)

Breadcat24 · 11/12/2025 05:11

Apparently a Christmas tree is a really good cat toy

NeedToKnow101 · 11/12/2025 06:14

Mine loves watching TV. No, tbh she doesn’t at all. She loves playing with my partner’s EarPods, and loves chasing string with all her heart, but that’s with me playing with her. Kittens are so curious and love chasing, climbing and exploring. Maybe get different size boxes for her with things inside to play with.

None of mine are remotely interested in the tree. I thought the youngest would be climbing it like a monkey but he's barely sniffed it.

I don’t know what’s different about Yowwee catnip toys, but it’s certainly more powerful than anything else I’ve come across. My two love the little sardine toys. They appear to be completely irresistible!
